I have been a patient of Dr. Maher’s for over 20 years. I can’t imagine going anywhere else. I have really bad eyesight, seriously I am blind as a bat (–6.50/-7.00!!) so taking care of my eyes is of upmost importance to me and I rely on my contacts to get me through life. Until I’m brave enough to get the lasik surgery, that is. But I’m still too much of a chicken. But that’s a review for another day. Back on topic! I highly recommend this establishment and Dr. Maher. His staff is very friendly, helpful and patient. He is so awesome and really takes of his patients. The location is great and they carry lots of frames and sunglasses from many companies including many designer brands. I’m very happy with Eyeworks and Dr. Maher, and my poor blind eyes thank you too!

I’ve been coming here for 10+ years now, ever since I was a kid. I’ve seen three different optometrists here — Dr Baker, Dr Maher, and Dr Ruiz. Dr Maher is the friendliest and seems to genuinely want to know how his patients are doing beyond basic eye health and what they’re up to in life. Dr Baker is not as chatty but she is a consummate professional. I know the receptionist Nora is not the friendliest staffer but she gets the job done courteously. I will continue to come here for years, as long as my parents are based in Cupertino!

Why my appointment was terrible:
1. The doctor tried to push laser surgery on me.
2. I told him I don’t wear contacts and he pressured me into trying them anyway. I don’t really like strangers’ fingers in my eyes. When I asked him to stop, he kept trying to force them in. The only reason I can think that he would be so interested in forcing me to wear contacts is he wants to make more money.
3. He didn’t even give me a thorough exam. I told him how many years it had been since I last got an exam, and he didn’t even dialate my pupils or do many of the other tests I’ve had at other places.
4. I don’t want to get my frames there because the frames for women are mostly old-​ladyish, too dark, or generally ugly. I had to ask for a copy of my prescription so I could go elsewhere.
It was the worst optometrist appointment I’ve ever had. Boo.

Dr. Maher is the most wonderful doctor. He’s been in my life since I was only four years old. He has taken care of my mothers vision, my brothers vision, and mine for decades, never steering us wrong. He has a heart of gold and we love him! He will always do everything in his power to make you happy, and has seen nearly everything in his many years experience so you never feel scared or alone. He is the best optometrist money can buy, and more. I can never thank him enough for what he’s done for us. He’s wonderful.

OMG!!! Dr. Mahr is the best.
Came here at my husbands urging. I’ve had ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision all my life. Sadly, I’ve started having headaches in the last few months from eye strains. I tried everything from taking 10 min breaks from my computer every few hours to making the font sizes bigger, but it has not helped. In July, I went to a local optometrist on my vision plan ignoring my husband’s plead, but I just did not like the prescription I got.
So I caved and had my husband made an appointment with Dr. Mahr. What a difference. I was shown into the exam room by his staff and they took a few tests with 3 different machines. Not the same tests I went through at the other place. Then Dr. Mahr came in and spoke with me a little bit about me issues. I told him I’ve always fought against wearing glasses all my life because I felt they were all too strong for me. But I’ve been experiencing double visions at night and while working on the computer at work. He took a few lenses out and asked me to read the letters on the wall. Then he got really excited and said that my case is very unique and he has always wanted to get a case like mine.
As it turns out, my left eye is far sighted and my right eye is near sighted… and I was actually born this way. When he covered my right eye, my left vision is blurred, when he covered my right eye, my vision is clear. So I’ve been relying predominately on my right eye. So all my previous glasses were all wrong for me cuz they were gear both as far sighted lenses and it’s distorting my eyes making them worst.
So he made up 2 prescriptions for me, one is for driving at night and one is for computer use. The lenses he put on my eyes never made me felt sick or dizzy and it’s the first time I felt someone really took the time to fix my problem. My eye exam took an hour. Thanks Dr. Mahr. this is the first time I’m actually looking forward to wearing glasses.

I will never recommend this place!!! It took almost 3 weeks to get my daughter’s glasses. The staff don’t even call you for any updates why it’s being delayed but you have to call them instead. I had to follow up 2 to 3 times and when I told them I just want a refund guess what? that’s the only time I guess they decided to follow up with the lab again, I never had to order glasses and wait for almost 3 weeks for it to be READY!!!

Simply the best eye exam you will get. Amazing how much better you see when the doctor takes an extra thirty minutes to fine tune your prescription. Also one of the best and only high-​end frame selections in this area. Been a customer for twenty years. You will not do better, but you may wait for attention, and it is nit inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. This is the best.

My family and I have been going to Eyeworks for several years now, and we are very pleased with Doctor Ruiz and Gloria (manager). Yearly check-​ups visits are always one time with minimal wait time for ordering glasses. Dr. Ruiz explains any changes from year to year and provides in depth recommends. Gloria, is always so helpful by providing detail insurance coverage and makes sure we all get the best price and not to mention on hands when it comes to finding glasses for myself and family.

I have been going to eyeworks for over a year and have been very happy with the doctors and Nora!!! I was first helped with my contacts by Dr. Baker and she got it right the first time, being that I have a difficult prescription. I then took my son and was seen by Dr. Ruiz. He was great with the visit and also provide helpful insight on college information for my boy. My daughter was seen by Dr. Baker. My daughter was very happy with the visit and liked the doctor. She is 12 and sometimes does not like going to get checkups. Now she asks when her next visit is with Dr. Baker.
I highly recommend this office since they treat you like family. Nora the current optician helped my kids with their frames. She listened to their needs and in no time my kids had the frames they described and we walked out so happy!!!

I am giving Dr Maher four stars as no matter what is written below, he is still the best around. I have been seeing Dr Maher for over a decade and have worn glasses since fourth grade. He was the first and only doctor who was able to actually delay my need of bifocals by spending the extra time with me to manually back off my prescription just enough so that I could function 90% of the time with one set of glasses. If I golf or drive at night I simply put the stronger set on. Most doctors simply crank the lenses stronger each time until you need to hold paper at arms length in order to read it.
He takes the extra time and goes the extra mile and he is a super human being and he is the nicest guy you will ever meet.
Having said that, I am seriously considering a search for another doctor as he has an office manager named Gloria who is absolutely terrible in the customer service area. A year ago I received a prescription that I realized was a bit off. I couldn’t focus through the right lens. When I called them to see about getting it looked at, Gloria was firm that I should wear them and get used to them. She actually began diagnosing me and explaining the inner workings of the eye. The worst part was that she doesn’t listen and talks over you. SHE’S AN OFFICE MANAGER, NOT AN OPTOMETRIST! When came in a few months after that to correct this, she said that she would need to charge me 100 dollars!
I ended up not being able to wear my glasses and wore my old glasses for a year. I thought I would give this one more chance and went back this year and this time I had a question about a charge with my insurance. Again i was met with her talking over me and resistance to solve the problem. The issue was not solved at all and I again felt beat up.
The sad part is that Dr. Maher is losing business due to this woman as other reviewers have the same issue with Gloria. It’s sad as I know he is the independent operator and I would love to keep seeing him but while Gloria is there, you will never have resolution should there be an issue with your glasses.
As long as everything goes perfect, you will not have trouble. If you need customer service for an issue, Gloria will shut you down. So sad that a guy this great is losing business because of Gloria. SO sad…

I usually have a good experience with the office staff but, since I came here for about eight years, there may have been one or two off experiences. But for the most part, never had issues with insurance, courteous, and they could usually accommodate me on relatively short notice. (Like the several times when I realized I was about to run out of contact lenses and needed to come in that week.) All that said, the main reason I came to Eyeworks, and continued to come when both my work and home changed and it was a 25+ mile trip to get there is because Dr. Mark Maher is the best optometrist I’ve ever had. Such a great bedside (chairside?) manner, totally straight shooter – tells it like it is and is never trying to «sell» you – and a genuinely nice person. Oh yeah, his skill as an optometrist is also better than any other doctor I’ve been to. For my last optometry visit, I finally switched to the visioncare office on my work’s campus for the sake of convenience but it’s just not the same. I’ll probably be back.

I did not have a pleasent experience here. The office manager gave me a pair of broken glasses and when I realized this, i called and the they would not help me. They told me I would have to send the glasses back and pay for the repairs!!!

I have been going here for YEARS and they have always been great to work with both Dr. Maher and his team. Friendly, informative, and really focused on ensuring good eye health and vision has always been appreciated.

Been seeing Dr Mark Maher for three years now and I’m very happy. Dr Maher is very friendly and is always happy to explain changes in my eyes, how updated products would help or not. He always helps me get what is most helpful, not try to sell something new or anything at all. The staff helps explain insurance coverage to get the best price and helped me find the best fitting glasses for my face.

I took my prescription to eyeworks. The only reason I went there was because my opthamologist office didn’t have any frames I liked. I found a frame I liked, though it was expensive. After 2 tries, they still couldn’t get the lenses right. I couldn’t see out of the glasses! I also took in a pair of sunglasses to have the lenses changed to the new prescription. They messed that up too. I was working with Gloria. All she kept telling was that I had a difficult prescription. I have worn glasses for over 40 years and no other optician had problems before.
After going back to my opthamologist, we found that the frames were issue. I had lenses replaced at my cost for the sunglasses and all told I spent over $ 1000. and I don’t have a pair of glasses I can use. Stay away from Eye Works and especially Gloria.

Great staff and Dr. Baker was awesome!!! They were very polite and very helpful and they maintained a professional demeanor beginning from peripheral vision testing procedures to deciding on the frame for the glasses. We even got a discount! :) I would go back here in the future for all my vision needs!!!

Love this place! Dr. Maher knows his stuff and does quality work. I love the staff and the prices on lenses are competitive. All in all, there is no reason not to support this wonderful local business.

My mom is pretty diva like at times. She wants quality, service, and then throw in the Asian gene of wanting a bargain, and voila, my mother.
This place took care of her sunglass needs. Compared to other shops she went to, when she walked in, they were helpful and polite and not at all pushy. They helped her find a frame that was nice, fit her face, and would work with her prescription. She ended up with some Michael Kors prescription sunglasses that were on sale. When she came back two weeks later, to pick them up, the girl helped her try them on and make sure they were as great as she had expected.
For me, being with her that afternoon, I was in sunglass and glasses heaven: BCBG, Michael Kors, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Dior, Nine West, Ray Ban, Versace, any name brand you can think of they carry. The store has great service and carries every possible name brand out there!!!

After finally getting Lasik eye surgery last year, I rewarded myself with a new pair of Maui Jimz sunglasses!
I shopped around and this place had the very best/​lowest price. I saved 30% off during their annual sale. The décor is modern contemporary. The hardwood floors, carpets, and displays makes this place look like a model home! Great knowledgeable staff and doctors. They are located inside the Marketplace Plaza in Cupertino (across from Valco Mall).

I think sitting at the computer and writing these reviews have made my eyesight deteriorate.
The solution: an eye exam.
This place is located next to Erik’s Deli, in the Long’s shopping center, along with the Elephant Bar, and Potsticker King.
Dr. Baker and her staff are sooooo nice. Promptly and pleasantly greeted, I was in and out of there within 30 minutes.
What to expect:
1) A machine that blows a puff of air into each eye – strange at first, but it suppose to measure the pressure in your eye.
2) A video-​game type machine – you get a clicker and are suppose to hit the button when you see something move on the screen. Funny thing tho – I didn’t see a thing. Maybe it was an honesty test or something.
3) The actual eye exam – different lenses are placed over your eyes and you are asked is one or two clearer, can you read me the letters, and then the bright light that checks for eye disease is the last part.
Minus one star for being on the expensive side for glasses. I chose to go to Costco instead.
