Cypress Union Smog

Got my smog check at this location because it was convenient. It’s the closest to my boyfriend’s house. Took a little longer than expected, and I’ve seen cheaper prices elsewhere. He did help us put a new bulb in one of the head lights though.

They are ok. Pass or dont pay is the way to go.

This place deserves negative stars and hopefully will soon be out of business. Went to get my truck smoged last week. Needless to say it was the worst decision I’ve ever made and a major headache. The workers here are rude, incompentment, and just plain stupid. I explained to him my truck has an air intake system and is California legal, plus I showed him the carb sticker. He said I should pass no promblem. Well 30 minutes later I failed. Side note (I was the only person here, they are very slow and they eat food while you wait and take smoke breaks which is ridiculous since it’s also a gas station.) The rude worker felt it was illegal because the intake was made for trucks 2004 — 2006. My truck is a 2007 and for that only reason I failed. I know for a fact my system is carb legal and my truck is exactly the same as the previous models. I explained this to him and I got an arrogrant loud respnse «put the factory system back on for retest and come back then you will pass» BTW no free retest you have to pay again which is absurd. He just wanted more money he didn’t care at all he smiled multiple times like he accomplished having me fail. I decided to go elsewhere because he was so rude a such a smartass. I knew he was full of shit the moment I saw his face. Well this time I used Unilocal and found a great place in Long Beach that had fantastic reviews plus free retest! I decided to try it and guess what I passed with no issues! In n out in 10 minutes! And the service was great something cypress union needs. Anyways I went back to cypress union and demanded for a refund and he refused. He laughed and smiled «no refunds» he thought it was hilarious that I went somewhere else instead of coming back to this dump. I well never do business here again. Nothing but greedy low life scum bags who only care about money and screwing people. PRICKS!

You dont have to go for the smog, just go for gas. It’s clearly one of the cheapest choices around by a longshot! Like most socal places with cash its even cheaper

Their website says you get a FREE retest if you fail the smog test. My van failed the smog test because the OBD computer was not ready at the time of the check. My van has not been driven for 2 months so I took it on the road to drive it more as advised. When I returned for the retest, I showed them the free retest shown in their website but they do not want to honor it. The guys were friendly but they should honor what is advertised in their website. If you can’t honor your advertising, don’t put it there.

This place is also a gas station, and honestly when paying cash it’s one of the best deals around, BUT the level of customer service is just awful. No one is ever inside waiting, you must always wait for someone to walk up to help you out. The machines outside to take your money and to pay with a card do not work, so you MUST always go inside. It’s just annoying no thank you ever or have a nice day. I have been using this location, a family run business, let’s keep this economy going but now I’m over it, I will be taking my money else where.

AMAZING. I don’t know what happened to the other reviewers but the technician here was great! I had previously taken my car to a smog place in Artesia, CA (11 646 Artesia Blvd) and the techs there didn’t know what the hell they were doing and basically ripped me off (you can read why on their Unilocal page). They told me my timing was way off so I took it to my mechanic. Mechanic said it was dead on ! Went back to the Artesia place and they still said it was off. So, I decided to try my luck here because my grandpa brought both of his cars here. At first I was going to get charged almost $ 80.00 for my car (because it’s super old and needs an evap test) BUT I found a coupon for a 30 $ smog check and it cost about 50 $ after that and the technician was super nice. He did the check in less than 30 minutes and was very efficient. Said my car passed and that the other place didn’t know what they were doing! Definitely gonna be coming back here next time! Fast, efficient and reliable!

Dont take your car in if its a nice car, they will give you a price based on that. I was quoted almost 3x the advertised price. They offered to lower the price after I started driving away, didnt like they were trying to take advantage so went else where. Goto an honest place like Super Smog on Beach blvd. Same price for everyone and a good price.

The technician is a champion of the State of CA bureaucracy. He failed my car even though it passed the emissions test. He claimed the catalytic converter does not have the correct part number on it. I just bought the car and the previous owner must have put on an aftermarket part on it. How was I supposed to know? After the technician saw that it passed the emissions test, he proceeded to go and look for correct numbers on the emissions parts on the vehicle. It would be understandable if the vehicle FAILS the emissions test and then you go on looking at the emissions parts on the vehicle. Isn’t the point of the CA SMOG check to keep the air clean by getting the polluting cars off the road? Clearly California SMOG check is not merely about that. It is also about keeping the right part numbers on the obviously well-​functioning emissions system! Now I have to go and spend some $ 600 to put in the «correct» catalytic converter so that my car would achieve the same emissions test result of PASS!
Our champion technician was so arrogant and proud of his work. There was not a hint of doubt in his eyes that he had done the right thing. The perfect soldier marching to the order! I am sure he is to be applauded by the BAR/​CARB bureaucrats who put into law that having the correct-​numbered emissions parts in a vehicle is somehow required even when the vehicle’s emission is well-​under the acceptable threshold. Somewhere along the line these people lost sight of what they set out to do. Clean air is what they were after, but costing the consumers unnecessary expense became their objective. And to that end they have gotten themselves a champion SMOG Check technician. Congratulations!
So if you are the «letter of the law» type of person that would like to have your car SMOG tested by having the technician apply the letter of the law unto your vehicle, this is the place for you. You may end up spending $$$ on parts that do not affect your car’s emissions profile. But you and the technician will both have a satisfying time. But if you are hoping you could save time and money while getting your SMOG certificate, this is not the place for you. Did I mention they also charge you for the re-​test?

I went to this place today (02/​15/​2014) to get my 2001 Ford ZX2 smogged and I had a horrible experience. I initially called the place before driving down there. I spoke to the technician and right off the bat he gave me an estimate of $ 50 plus, not including the smog certificate. I told him to wait and I advised him that I had an online coupon for $ 29.75. The tone of the technician’s voice immediately changed as if I took some money from him. The technician then advised me that the total amount including the smog certificate would be $ 41.80. I then got off the phone and my wife asked what happened. I told my wife that they sound like «THIEVES.»
Upon my arrival, I was met by the cashier in the parking lot and he told me to come in and sit down. The cashier then proceeded to fill out the paperwork with the pricing. The cashier handed me the clipboard and he told me to fill out my name, address, and signature at the bottom. (The cashier told me nothing else) I looked at the pricing to make sure everything added up with the quote I received over the phone, which was $ 41.80 including the certificate.
The technician then worked on my vehicle for approximately 30 minutes and he advised me that my Ford did not pass due to the computers monitoring system. The technician showed me the paperwork that my emission system all passed, but I failed the computer reading portion. The technician told me to drive the car for approximately 20 miles plus and the vehicle’s computer system should have a second reading, come back for a re-​test, and my vehicle should pass. I said «Okay, I can do that.» He then told me to pay the cashier for the test, but not the fee for the certificate.
I approached the cashier and he explained to me that an additional $ 24.75 was going to be charged upon my return for the re-​test plus the fee for the certificate. I was beside myself upon hearing this and I felt disqustingly violated.
Beware and stay away from this business. They are unethical and they prey on consumers. The technician had the nerve of taking my car keys and refused to hand them over until I paid for the test.
I stood my ground and I advised them that I was not paying the $ 24.75 re-​test fee because I was not told about the fee prior to signing the contract. My wife checked their website and it clearly states that a re-​test is free!!! (My wife also took a picture of their website)
Finally, the owner hesitantly stepped in and stated that the re-​test will be free upon my return. The owner did not apologize and he walked away stating that I should have assumed that a fee was implied for a re-​test.

Not sure if the guy is a crook or is just plain incompetent, but I won’t go here again.
Had a coupon, so I thought I’d try it out. Extra charge for a truck and extra charge for pre-​1995. Okay, there goes my coupon savings. Anyways, the truck doesn’t pass the EVAP test (leak in the fuel system). Well, it is an old truck, so I take it to a repair shop to get it fixed. They can’t find any leak with their equipment, so I take it back to get it re-​tested. NO FREE RETEST! Fine, I know there’s no leak, so it should pass just without any problems. Nope, he says it still doesn’t pass the EVAP test.
Well, I wasn’t about to waste any more money at this place, so I took it to another smog shop where they pointed out that my truck didn’t even need an EVAP test, and if someone tried to do one, they were doing it incorrectly (pinching off the wrong hose!)
So, I wasted my time and my money going to this place. Thinking about it now, I’d have to say that the guy is BOTH a crook and incompetent.

Very kind and courteous and helped me out quick. I realized in the past that all places charge extra for suv’s not just this place. Overall a good experience and very helpful.. I would def recommend and won’t take my car anywhere else

Horrible! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Prices and service are terrible. If there was a Zero star option, I would give them ZERO stars!

I got a smog check here because I was referred by a Goodyear dealer who had a coupon to offer. I got my smog check and got the report. They send the report directly to DMV to meet your smog requirement. The report is more than one page with a bunch of different «pass» and «not pass» line items… well apparently on the second page I didnt pass one criteria which was in tiny wrinting on one line, of this long two page result report. They didnt tell me I didn’t pass!!! I paid and went on my happy way… It seems like a real basic thing for them to point out to you that YOU DIDNT PASS. But they simply handed the report to me and accepted my payment, and sent my Non-​pass to the DMV. I don’t know anyone who would actually read this report to see the non-​pass line on the second page unless the shop happened to mention they didnt pass.
A couple months later (it didn’t occur to me I never received my registration sticker in the mail) I got a parking ticket for expired registration tags. Called the DMV to see what was up, and I was told I had paid my fees, but they held on to the tags due to non-​pass of the smog test. They had the date the report was submitted, and the name of the gas station (Cypress Union) and said the report said I didn’t pass.
I took my car to the dealer to repair whatever was causing me to not pass and then I went back to Cypress Union and told the manager what happened and he seemed incredulous. He wouldn’t redo the test for free, despite a huge sign in the front of the station that says «pass or retest for free» because it was beyond some time period (it was only 3 months later).
I will never go to this place again and would encourage others to go somewhere else. The manager never apologized, and frankly didn’t believe me… why would I make something like this up? He was rude and condescending!
PS If I could give it 0 stars I would.

STAY AWAY!
Went there with a coupon from Smog Ads indicating 34.00 + certificate which I knew I had to pay. Went there and a young hispanic girl who was very rude, proceeded to tell me that it was $ 10 extra for SUV’S. I was like «why» its the same probe and process, its not like a car wash. I was mad but I wasn’t about to go looking around for another place. Luckily my SUV passed which it should have, If there was anyway that it was borderline, I somehow felt they would have made it fail. After it was done, the girl once again tells me its 53.00 and I giver her my ATM Debit card, after she processes it and I enter the PIN she tells me that there is an extra .50 charge for using a debit card, WTF? After I give her a look she sarcastically says don’t worry, i’ll give you back the .50 cents. Needless to say, I would not recommend going to this place.
