Across USA Moving & Storage

If I could provide a negative star rating I would. I have moved many times and this was the worst experience of all of them!
It started with an aggressive sales approach by phone [e.g., we want your business let me check with my boss to see if we can get you a deal… if you lock in today I can get you an additional $$ off the price… etc.]; in retrospect, that should have been the «red flag» not to do business this company.
There was nothing out of the ordinary for this move. It was straightforward [e.g., one king size bed, dresser, a few tables, small kitchen appliances, two flat screen TVs, 4 wardrobe boxes, desk, 3 chairs and ~20 boxes]. The move was from the Midwest to CA.
The following are the main reasons I would rate this a negative star:
1. Movers arrived late
2. I paid for a complete packup and they were not prepared
3. The movers complained about having to pack the items
4. Their attitude was terrible
5. The packing was horrible [e.g., coffee machine was thrown into box with electronics and water was still in the machine, nothing was organized, multiple items lost and damaged]
6. They damaged the floor of the apartment I was moving of which I had to pay for
7. At the end of the loading of the truck they presented me a bill that was 3Xs more than the agreed amount
8. I spoke with their «Manager» by the phone and he basically said «too bad pay it or we will unload everything and not reassemble it»!
9. I literally was seconds away from calling the police to come assist with the extortion that was taking place
10. Hours later, I compromised and agreed to have them unload about 20 items and paid the amount I was prepared to as per contract
11. They were 1 month late from the move in date I requested. Note: I was compensated with ~$ 150 discount [ridiculous]. They also reminded me of the contract I signed which gives them several weeks of slack beyond the requested move in date.
12. The customer service was terrible, they made repeated promises to call me back or email me when I would inquire about the move in timing. They rarely followed through with these commitments for communication.
13. The moving company that arrived to move me in was a bit more professional
14. They unloaded the items promptly and let me know that this was likely the last time they were contracting with Across Moving due to the multiple issues they have had with the company too.
Recommendation to the business’s management: Be upfront and honest with your customers, improve your customer service. Review your subcontractors much better before you work with them.
Recommendation to potential customers: Do not enter into a business agreement with them until they have changed their practices and it is demonstrated by quality customer reviews.

So, the move was completed earlier this month.
Keep in mind, I am writing this from the perspective of someone who moved from Illinois to Oregon. Assuming you move within the Chicagoland region, I would highly recommend them. My update is in regards to the second leg of the move.
Pros
— Everything was accounted for
— Nothing was broken
— Second set of movers (third-​party) worked hard and quickly
— Truck driver (third-​party) was accessible and helpful
— Despite last minute changes (see cons), still cheaper than all quotes from other companies
Cons
— Was unaware that our stuff was loaded onto and would be delivered by an 18-​wheel truck. If this had been explained to me at the beginning of the process, I would have either arranged for a smaller truck in Oregon or I would have arranged for street permits. I was a bit of a zombie from planning my first out-​of-​state move; graduating from school; and looking for a job, so it would have been helpful to know this piece of info at a time when I was juggling a million things.
— I chose to pay extra for a last minute rental of a 26-​foot truck and up the tips for the movers because they had to move everything from a semi to a box truck to my new place. I did not want to upset my new neighbors as well as my landlord, who lives in the building, by blocking driveways and the street.
I really floundered between 3 and 4 stars because of the pros, but I have to go with 3 because of the lack of transparency regarding the entire move. It was exponentially more stressful than it could have been. Again, if it had been a local move, I would highly recommend them. I know several people who are moving out-​of-​state in the near future and I will recommend Across USA to them, though I will explain the whole process to potential clients.

UPDATE #2:
TL;DR;
While my personal experience of feeling neglected and stressed during my move would not lead me to recommend them to a friend, or even a stranger on Unilocal,their customer service team does seem to genuinely care, and goes out of their way to investigate issues and make it right. Even still, next time I move, I’ll gladly pay a higher price to avoid any risk of a hassle like this.
Outcome:
They’ve investigated my case and sent a follow up. The highlights + takeaways:
— If you decide their super cheap pricing is worth the risks of broken furniture, shady delivery drivers, and no contact once they’re in possession of your stuff, ask to be connected with Josh early on. I’m sure he can be much more helpful and spare you a lot of stress if he’s aware of the problems before he discovers them on a Unilocal review months later.
— The pricing/​quote discrepancies were explained, and sound reasonable. It just would have been nice if someone returned my calls, emails, and voicemails to explain during the move.
— Again, if you do decide to use them, understand that «first available delivery date» means your stuff will arrive «7 – 16 days after that day». I had explained that the *latest* I’d like my things to arrive was June 20, and they decided to use that as the first available date, and told me that I could update it. When I called/​emailed the moving coordinator, Ori, to update it, he agreed to see what he could do, and then never followed up, (nor did my moving rep, or anyone else I tried to get in touch with) despite my repeated calls, voicemail, and emails, so my things continued to be scheduled for arrival sometime 7 – 14 days after the date I stated would be *latest* time of delivery.
— They apologized for no one returning my calls or responding to my emails.
— While on the phone, Josh apologized for the driver who showed up by himself, and needed help unloading, and stated that it was against their policy to have a single driver make deliveries. However, no mention of how or why this happened, was made in the follow up email, so perhaps you can expect a single driver to show up with your things who you’ll have to help (or hire additional help at the last minute) to unload.
— I had previously refused to pay a remaining balance for just over $ 500 because of the issues I experienced (late arrival, having to hire help to unload the truck, radio silence, and shattered furniture). I did receive a very unprofessional call from them trying to get me to pay this balance, which left me feeling a bit harassed. Why they didn’t pull Josh in at this point is a mystery to me, but Josh did agree to consider my account paid and pull it from collections, so that’s nice that I don’t have to fight to get that fixed.
UPDATE:
After you leave a review online, apparently they have a customer service rep who is also friendly and sincerely interested in helping understand what went wrong with your move. Will update my review with the outcomes

Early in the process but things seem to be going well. 10×10 storage closet in another state was emptied into a truck and my account closed, so that’s good. Will report back with another review when my things are delivered to me.

Brandon and Eddie were excellent! They went out of their way to move us earlier than what was to be expected. They were professional and thorough. Thanks guys!
On the back end of things they were extremely professional. There was a nick in my dresser and the box spring bag had ripped but other than that everything was in one piece! These issues were mostly a result of us choosing to pack everything ourselves. We packed everything ourselves, I recommend if you do that to bubble wrap everything on top of having them use furniture pads. Also double bag mattresses and box springs.
They were very timely and we had our stuff in 5 days!

Unilocal removed my initial review because it said I didn’t provide enough detail. So here are some details:
Do NOT use this company. They are beyond crooked.
1). Every box that was labeled «fragile» was stolen
2) I moved from Dallas TX to California August 2013
3) As a family, this was our 12^th move so I have extensive knowledge about cross-​country moving
4) The initial quote was 50% lower than what they actually charged
5) I don’t have enough energy to type what all was broken, but I will say some items literally looked like a fork lift had run them over. The most remarkable was my dining table. All four legs were broken. And it actually had tire tracks on it.
6) they do not own their own trucks for cross country moves. So while they may be careful packing in front of you at the initial pickup. They take it to a warehouse and apparently dump it then run it over with a forklift and pack it in another truck.
7) refuse to return phone calls
8) insurance claims are by weight. So if you have a $ 2000 piece of silver, expect to get 10 cents for it
9) they don’t disclose the deposit requirements upfront. I was prepared to pay with a debit card on pack day (like I have with all our other moves) they ONLY take cash… or charge a 20% credit card fee! Our pack was on a Sunday so I didn’t have an option to run to the bank and get $ 2500 in cash!!!
10) the packing crew was a joke. A. joke. They are TRAINED and TOLD to increase the bid.
11) I filed a complaint with BBB and the Texas Attorney General
We’ve moved twice since this with absolutely no hiccups.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I am hopeful that I will have the opportunity to upgrade this review, but as of right now my family and I are very disappointed to say the least.
The guys who picked up our things were great and really left us feeling good about having chosen Across USA. Unfortunately that was the last time we saw our things.
Only after an angry Twitter rant did we get any updates on whether or not our things would be delivered at all (not to mention within the agreed upon window), and at that point we were told that our things were just leaving the origin and apparently had been sitting in storage throughout the time when they were supposed to have been delivered.
That said we are hopeful that everything will be delivered in good condition this week as promised. Rest assured that this review will be updated accordingly if that is not the case.
In the meantime we’re still trying to figure out how Across USA can ask for full payment for a contract for which they have not upheld on their end in terms of delivery within the agreed upon window.
A piece of advice — spend more time worrying about providing top notch service and there won’t be a need to spend nearly as much time policing Unilocal and Twitter. #whereisourstuff

5.22.15 The claim was filed and agreed upon by Across USA as as of this posting Across USA has not fulfilled their responsibility by making payment to me. I have called their local customer service manager several times and discussed the situation and have left him voice mails with no return calls. I have send them a letter requesting settlement… No Response.
I believe in providing honest evaluations of restaurants and businesses as part of my reviews. This moving and storage company is one that needs to be avoided if you have a need to move across town or from state to state as their past tells their story.
I would not recommend this company…

I am writing this review to hopefully warn anyone thinking about using this company. I moved from Dallas to Los Angeles back in December. I called several companies to get quotes and this one came in with the lowest price. Once the movers arrived to my condo, they started to look at the inventory and proceeded to let me know that the quote would be almost $ 1,000 more than what I was told over the phone. They let me know that wrapping the furniture and tape was not included. In addition, they let me know that the total cubic feet of space needed on the truck was misquoted. I immediately picked the phone up and placed a call to Josh. Josh ultimately said he would work with me, and did, however, I still ended up paying way more than the quote that was given over the phone. I was also assured, after letting them know that I was having Christmas at my house in LA with family, that the furniture would be delivered well before family and friends arrived. This was all part of the negotiation given that they charge an additional $ 1500 to guarantee delivery date. Once that was taken care of, the movers began packing and loading the furniture. Halfway through the process of packing, the movers asked me to go buy them lunch. I did it, not wanting three angry guys packing all my belongings and driving off with them upset with me.
About 2 weeks later, I received the call to let me know that my furniture would be delivered, well before my family would be in town for Christmas. That proved to be short lived. I called back a week later to confirm delivery only to find out that the furniture was not loaded because the company they use for transportation cancelled that delivery. I was told then it would be delivered one week later. Again, I called to confirm only to find out that truck was cancelled and would not be leaving for California. I was told then it would be on a truck the net day. Again, that truck was pulled and my furniture would not b e delivered. It was now going to be delivered sometime well after Christmas and possibly even after the New Year. I called Josh. Josh told me the only way to guarantee delivery was to pay the $ 1500. Ultimately, I had to pay to get the furniture in time for my family and friends for the holidays. What originally was a $ 2,300 quote ended up costing me well over $ 5,000.
Long story short, do NOT use this company. They will nickel and dime you to death. They will come in with the lowest quote and then they send the movers. By that time, it is too late. They know they have you and ultimately you have no choice but to pay all the additional fees and charges. I told Josh that it feels like they give you a window for delivery and then they extort the $ 1,500 so you can get your furniture. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

All in all, I had a GREAT experience with Across USA Moving. The 3 movers worked very diligently in helping to package move my stuff from Uptown Dallas to Los Angeles. The distance from my apartment at the Gables Villa Rosa to the van was not close, but I thought they worked very efficiently in making it a smooth process. They worked almost straight for pretty much the entire day until the job was done. As far as the pricing, I thought it was extremely fair considering how much man labor was put in. My boxes were recieved in a timely manner. I told them to put it on hold for a period of time until I was able to recieve them. They were very patient and flexible with me and my unique situation. I personally would HIGHLY recommend them!

Do not use Across U.S.A. Moving and Storage. They quoted $ 850 to me including insurance and told my customer the same thing and then changed the price to $ 995. Then after they picked it up the bill was $ 1062. They said delivery would be in 8 to 12 calendar days and when I received the confirmation email it said 14 to 21″ BUSINESS” days. Terms were with 50% due on pick up and 50% due after delivery. Now they want payment in full before it is delivered. It has not left Dallas on its way to New York. I don’t like being lied to. Accent Antiques In business 37 years. Now I just got an email they are adding 3% for the credit card that they did not add when I paid 50% deposit. So now the total is$ 1078.03 a $ 228. difference or 27% increase !! These people are unscrupulous!!!

As an update, the company delivered the remaining items intact, there is one outstanding item, but should resolve itself quickly. The process was a bit lengthier than I’d like, but the customer service rep I was in contact with was very helpful and responsive.

Like many others who have reviewed the company, I had a miserable experience with Across USA Moving and Storage. I found the company to be deceptive and generally disrespectful of my belongings. Save yourself the time and money: go with a national carrier that will treat your items with respect.
Below are bullet points summarizing my experience with the company in September 2014:
— Boxes arrived smashed and with water damage.
–Styrofoam protecting 50″ flat screen was completely smashed.
— Office furniture damaged
— Homemade furniture built my father and grandfather arrived broken in pieces.
— Wardrobe boxes had clearly been inverted.
— All lamps broken. All glasses broken.
— Canceled promised Monday pick-​up time at 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon.
— Promised 4 – 5 day delivery time upon selection of company. Actual delivery time was 16 days. Zero transparency in this area.
— Impossible to track shipment. «It left yesterday» is the canned response. I was told this four days in a row.
— Was assured upon selection of company that the company operates its own vehicles with its own employees. This is untrue. Company outsources work to third party moving companies. Company that delivered my items was not even aware that the load had been originated by Across USA
— Delivery staff apparently lacks communication with Across USA. Driver contacted me directly several times inquiring about weight restrictions for road and other laws that moving company should clearly be able to answer on their own (weight restrictions on roads, etc).

I find it a «BS» attempt on the manager to say they have been trying to contact me to resolve my issue. It’s literally been 2 years and he just now posts? I’ve had the same email and phone number and never heard from them. I had a bad experience with this company and urge you, do NOT use this company. It’s the worst moving company I ever come in contact with. I’d trust random day labor from Home Depot parking lot before I would do business with these liars.

Excellent service! I used this mover a few weeks ago. The pickup and delivery went off very smoothly.

So this is day 17 and m stuff still has not been delivered. The quote was for ten days and after reading all of the reviews on here its sad to say but they are all true. (all negative).
where do I begin? my girlfriend and i received a quote for $ 900 to move from Houston to PA. When the actual movers showed up my quote doubled. Now Kenny who gave us the quote assured us based on the small amount of furniture being moved the quote was as close to accurate as possible. That’s because moving a few chairs a sofa a bed and TV took up so much space on the truck «I had to purchase additional space». I had to pay for tape and covers on my merchandise too.
the contract also states all merchandise will be delivered in ten days. It is now 17 days later and we still do not have any of our things. After calling the company several times to track down our merchandise we were given the drivers number so we could reach out. Heck no!!! not after $ 1800 why should I have to reach out to the driver from your company. We were also told the driver sleeps during the day and to call at night.
After calling the operations manger several times he is not taking my calls, the other sales reps have lied about leaving messages. Now i am hearing the trailer has broken down and they cant get a hold of the driver.
Moral of the story do not deal with this company it is the worst moving company on the planet. They are all liars and scam artist. I may never see my stuff again but hopefully I will stop someone else from falling for their scam.

1. Damage of night stand. During the pickup on 16 June in Katy, TX, the guys have broken one of my nightstand on the leg and the whole night stand has to be abandoned. The night stand with a value of US$ 250.
2. Over charge. I got a firm quotation with the amount of $ 1216.14 with a whole volume of 308 cf. However, there is nothing more than the items listed in the contract and with one abandoned night stand, there is an increase of 75 cf which lead to an additional cost of $ 330. I can’t agree with this increase and if that is the price, I have selected other mover.
3. Late delivery. on the pick up date, I have informed them that I am ready for delivery on the second day. However, the delivery is on 8 July, while their committed delivery date is 7 – 14 days when the delivery is ready. the family have to sleep on the floor within the weeks

The president of this company intervened and delivered all of my items free of charge today… he was very helpful and had excellent communication … Everything came in great condition.

This company deserves zero stars by far, and I am gearing up to continue the long and painful fight that I have been fighting with them since my move from Austin, TX to Santa Clara, CA started a month ago.
To begin, they used their estimator tool to get a feel for how much space we should need and should be charged for. We told them everything I own, which isn’t much, and got a fair offer. Sometime in the following week or so, I ended up selling and returning several things I had bought recently from some stores, making my load even smaller (including my bed, bookshelves, and some boxes.) All of this stuff taken away, and the first thing the dumb, unprofessional movers told us (after arriving an hour late) was that I was definitely going to need more space than what was quoted.
Not only did they somehow decide I needed more space on the truck even after so many items were no longer there to load, they literally doubled the original estimate by cost, adding an extra 100 cu. ft. at a higher rate. In the end, the cost did go from a little over $ 900 and change, to OVER $ 2000!!! They even charged something like $ 300 for using 4 or 5 blankets and maybe 10 yards of shrink wrap. When we asked if we could keep the rest of the wrap roll since we were being charged for a great deal more, we were told it didn’t work that way.
The idiots that got this all loaded didn’t stop there — they also couldn’t follow simple instructions when told not to take certain things (boxes were still on the bill of lading upon arrival that we had to go physically remove from their truck MORE THAN ONCE because they kept taking them). After reviewing all their little codes about the conditions of items and determining what they all meant, I found out that they literally listed 100% of my things to be damaged in some way; even my brand new, month old furniture was declared to be scratched, bent, and broken.
Sometimes companies don’t hire the cream of the crop for labor positions, and most of them at poorly compensated; so, I figured I’d call and take this all up the ladder at the company. Well, if you want ro reach anyone in a position of management, good luck to you, because they will tell you, regardless of the time of day, that the customer service manager isn’t in. When I did finally get to speak to some random supervisor, I was told only that, since everything was already loaded, any complaints or problems I had needed to go to this
third party. After being escalated to a supervisor there, and insultingly being offered a $ 50 credit for inconvenience, I was advised to wait until I got all of my things, make sure they are good, and then file one big claim.
Fine, no problem, I can be patient when I want to be.
Two weeks past our moving date elapsed before my stuff finally arrived. After the first week of freaking out and buying discount store things just to have the ability to cook and such, we had already left three voice messages and multiple emails over various days to our «rep» Jasmine, with absolutely zero response. I called in and threatened to immediately begin notifying the BBB, and, magically, Jasmine was suddenly available to speak. All she could tell me was that she hoped she’d have more information tomorrow. Tomorrow came and went, as did several more days, until she finally calls to say it’s being loaded and could be delivered between three to seven business days from that point. Isn’t that just peachy. Then she lets us know, rather abruptly, that we’ll actually have to have another $ 250 ready in cash for a shuttle service, since an 18-​wheeler couldn’t come in our street. Fantastic.
The guy that delivered was not a part of the company, which is not what is outlined in their terms. He called in the morning to say he was 72 miles out. We decided to go out for some food, and, almost exactly one hour later, he calls demanding to know where I am and rudely state that he doesn’t have to wait for me. Last time I checked, huge trucks could not legally travel that fast. He drove in the 18-​wheeler to our tiny residential street, unaware of several things (such as the fact that we were told a shuttle would be needed.) He was working completely solo, and nearly destroyed my sliding glass and screen doors in my new apartment trying to get in my three seater couch on his own. Items on the bill of lading were still messed up, leaving discrepancies because of nothing besides the company’s errors.
Now, I haven’t gotten around to checking all of my things yet, but my totes and boxes were all crushed to hell. My couch is filthy, and I’m afraid to set up my flat screen.
I’ve lived in thirteen states all over this country, and moved with all variety of companies and by myself. This was, by far, the worst experience I’ve ever had. These people are liars and cheaters, and I will be seeking to get at least half of my money back.

Luckily I only had to negotiate with them. Why I am writing the review is on that alone.
First, the guy was really pushy with all the sleazy tactics — sign up now before the call ends to get 10% off, etc.
Then when I politely said no because of their C rating with BBB, he still pushed. So I indicated — «I said no. Please respect that. This isn’t helping your reputation.»
To which he continued to argue and started talking about his MBA and how great he was.
Finally, I ended things by saying — «OK you win, I am taking this football and going home, and posting our dialog on Unilocal» — which now you all have.
Have a great day and dodge these bozos like the plague they are and I hope they grow a brain along with a conscious — arguing with no leverage over a lost deal — would love to know where he got his MBA — His professors (and parents) must be so proud. Lol.
