Ad-​Libs™ an American Comedy Improv Troupe performing since 1986. Entertaining and amazed crowds at it’s cabaret style theater in Dallas and across the country… The comedy’s subject matter uniquely blends video, scripted & improvisational comedy with plenty of audience participation, creating interactive entertainment where the crowd feeds on the frenzied Mardi Gras atmosphere.

With over 6,600 public and 850 corporate performances under their belts, there is no secret why over 1.5 million audience members have enjoyed an Ad-​Libs show. Ad-​Libs is professional, interactive, lively and just plain funny. Come see for yourself!

History

Established in 1986.

Ad-​Libs performed it’s fist show in the back room of an El Chico Restaurant in Dallas, Texas… the year was 1986.

For the next few years, we bounced around from one crappy venue to another, gaining valuable stage experience and a loyal following.

In 1988, we converted an old warehouse on the east side of downtown Dallas into a cool cabaret style theater. There we entertained more than 650,000 people over the course of 20 years.

Here come the bad guys… Corporate America felt our little corner @ Ross & Routh would better serve Dallas if it was an apartment building, and out we went.

Ad-​Libs gives birth to Mouth: Dallas newest entertainment venue… Located just a few blocks east of Dallas on Main Street.

Now in it’s 23rd year, Ad-​Libs performs weekly public & private shows & various improv classes @ it’s sister venue, Mouth.

Most of our talented comedians were brought up through our School of Improv. We offer many different levels of improv and scripted classes.

My work friends told me about this place. I was skeptical as I had never heard anything about it. Dragged a group there, and was even more skeptical when we walked in. $ 10 entry fee, not bad at all. Bar that sells pitchers of Blue Moon, we’re smiling. Tiny plastic chairs scattered all over the main room? Confirmation to my skepticism. But I was wrong. I loved it. I laughed throughout the whole performance. Some acts were better than others of course, but it was consistently pretty damn hilarious. It’s not something I would do every weekend, but a nice change of pace every now and then. Props to all the people that get up and do this. Everyone should go hear at some point, just to check it out.

This being my first time at an improv show, I didn’t know what to expect. I was soooo nervous when we were seated in the front row! I thought for sure I was going to be pulled on stage and did NOT want that. Thank goodness they asked for volunteers and had people in the audience with birthday or other parties going on, lol, they were prime choices. :-). The crew had everybody rolling with laughter the whole time. Two hours flew by! The only thing I was not impressed with… The lights make people on stage sweaty, I get that… But people close to the stage got spit on and dripped on. Gross! I was not one of those people, lol, thank goodness. It was a good time and I would go again!

I have not been since the old location. Back then, the troupe was bigger and seemed way more experienced. Last night’s troupe of 4 seemed way inexperienced, especially the girl but not including the owner. Thank goodness for him to keep things moving. The skits seemed forced. There were a few very funny moments but most of the big laughs came from the owner. The red head girl is super annoying and can’t be heard in the rear of the room. I wish them the best of luck reviving as it used to be great entertainment.

This is a neat little comedy club — nothing spectacular but its a fun way to spend a few hours on a Friday or Saturday. I went with my wife but think this place is also good for groups. They serve beer and wine during the show and there are no drink minimums.
My only gripe is they really rush you out of there at the end of the show. in our case the owner came to the bathroom line and said «There is a problem in Deep Ellum and I need everyone to leave»… Everyone left anxiously. There was no «problem in Deep Ellum.» He just wanted everyone to leave… not nice.

I have been to Ad Libs in the past (about 10 years ago) and loved it! This time was just as good if not better than before. I love the fact that they take suggestions from the audience and go from there… so much fun! My friend and I were really freaked out that they sat us right in the very front row but it turned out ok. We were afraid they would pull us on stage or something!
The only thing that kinda bothered me… and it’s not that big a deal but the guy at the door (who was part of the show) got irritated with us because we sat in the wrong seat. I think he was the one that was running the place that night. Other than that, it was awesome!

Improv comedy is either a hit or a miss. There are so many variable factors that you can be belly aching laughing or not laughing at all. This is why I’m more of a fan of stand up comedy. The comedians are using the same material but they are honing it as they do it make it funnier. Improv comedy is on the go.
Tonight’s Ad-​Libs comedy was alright. The staff was talented but it was not funny. Even when they were getting ideas from the audience, there were a few instances where the audience didn’t mention the ideas given but they went with what they wanted to do and it still wasn’t funny. So how do you know improv comedy was good? Well you enjoy it and I definitely didn’t enjoy mine.

If I’d known my wife likes improv comedy, we’d done this a LONG time ago. Goes to show you can be married for years and misinterpretation is still easy to come by.
Wife calls me up last week and says the neighbors want to go out to dinner and a comedy club. I ask her since when does she like comedy, «I just don’t like stand up, I like improv». /​facepalm
Ok, so I’m in, lets go!
We start with dinner at St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin (review already in the books).
It was raining like the bajeebus but we walk over to the club anyway (hint, you can walk through the parking lot across the street and save yourselves a 2 block walk: P.
This joint is small, but comfortably temperatured, uncomfy chairs (so what), rickety tables (who cares), beer /​wine only (bit of a pain in the ass) and some seriously inventive /​funny /​entertaining improvisational actors. It would be a little better with some female improvs (maybe they were off this night?) to widen what they can do.
As is, these three guys were good, I’ve been to lots of improv pre-​marriage (we’ll be going more often now of course, I love comedy in all its forms and if the wife likes this, I’d rather spend 50 bucks here than at a movie theater). I’m a very vocal person and they took suggestions throughout and nary a failed bit at all.
To boot, one of our friends won tickets for 8 to go back (that’s how many of us there were… that’s VALUE — bring business cards!!)

Wanted to do something different for a friends birthday and Ad Libs was suggested. It absolutely did not disappoint. We had a group of about 12 people and each person was practically wiping their tears from laughing so hard. Make sure you call ahead if you are going with a bunch of people because the shows do fill up. Get there early and grab your drinks, the waitress was busy once the show started–

OK I mentioned Ad Libs in my review for Addison Improv, and realized I have not reviewed either. Damn, I’m a slacker!
Definitely a blast, whether you go with 2 people or 20. Every show is different, you can go 3 nights in a row and because they take suggestions from the audience it’s always a wildly unique show. The cast (is that what they are called?) is amazing, I don’t know how they can be so sharp — and funny!
We used to go when it was it’s own place on Ross, but now they are in Deep Ellum. They have drinks and a small food menu, so you can go and have a few drinks with your friends while you wait for the show. Get ready though, once they take the stage you will not be drinking anymore, because you will be struggling to breathe. I am a professional people watcher and not ONCE have I been to an Ad Libs show and seen someone not laughing, most have tears running down their faces!
Be prepared, as they will very much more than likely pull someone on stage for 1 out of every 3 skits, and it could easily be you! Especially if you have friends that will point at you or shove you up to volunteer!
GREAT idea for bachelorette parties, birthdays and other fun group nights out. I think I’m going to go online now and buy some tickets!

Crazy laughs at every show I’ve been to!
Warning though, you can’t have a stick up your caboose. This is seriously sophomoric (sometimes raunchy) beer humor. The call it «sports comedy» because teams of comedians duke it out with jokes, pratfalls, basically anything they need to to get you laughing.
In my estimation, I’d say this place is mostly made up of an audience of 20 to early 30 year olds. Yes they serve bear. Yes, it’s even funnier if you have beer.
Check it out. It’s good old base-​level humor for a gang that isn’t pretentious and just likes to hang with friends and have a good time.

Tonight was, I believe, my sixth visit to Ad-​Libs but it was my first time to attend the show at their current location, Mouth, at 2626 Main St. in Deep Ellum. Took my sons (celebrating my 22-​year old’s birthday) & was delighted to find that the show is as fun, crazy, and full of talent as ever. Thumbs up and extra kudos to their d.j. (can’t recall his name) who was back at work after being out on a medical leave for donating a kidney – what a guy! My son received a cornea from a donor seven years ago, and it restored his sight. Thanks Ad-​libs for continuing to offer fabulous shows – you guys ROCK! :-)

The funniest improv comedy club in Dallas!
They recently moved from Ross Ave. downtown Dallas. But the new (temporary) club is on Main Street (Deep Ellum). This is a MUST for Dallas peeps! Great ad lib comedy from some of the funniest guys in the Dallas area.
If you’re looking for a good time on a Friday or Saturday night — this is the place to go. Great for Date night, out with the boys/​girls, family in town, bachlorette party and birthday parties.
