Food was disappointing. Bread with our appetizer was very tough. Those in our group who ordered grilled chicken all had over cooked food — the skin was burnt to a crisp. Sauce on short ribs had no nuance — it was like pure mustard. We had a good size group but the price was too expensive considering the quality and portion size of what we had. Service, atmosphere and drinks were good. I would stop here for a cocktail but that’s it.

Finally went here after some great reviews from a friend. Immediately, I was obsessed with the ambiance and décor. So much thought and details went into creating a smooth, warm environment. It was pretty quiet on a weekday around 8:30, so service was great and our waiter, attentive. My friend and I shared the Gulf Cajun shrimp, smashed potatoes, and the Appalachian fried chicken sandwich. All so delicious! They have an extensive drinks and spirits menu as well. Everything was spot on and of great quality. The gorgeous patio would be perfect on a warm, breezy day!

I had high hopes for Filament after hearing so many good things about it over the last few months. Like so many places in this vein, the actual experience is underwhelming. I can’t deny that the ambiance is wonderful. Industrial, open kitchen and space, prerequisite edison bulbs everywhere, succulents, exposed brick, comfortable seating and the perfect lighting. The food, while tasty, is entirely too small of a serving for the price point. My husband and I shared a combination of small and large plates: the Berkshire pork short ribs($ 21), buttermilk smashed potatoes($ 6), Filament green side salad($ 8) and Ember roasted onion dip($ 9) — and still left quite hungry. Our cocktails were very good and made with care, but also crazy overpriced. While we did enjoy our experience here, it’s unlikely we’ll be returning anytime soon.

I went for brunch this past weekend. I wanted to have room for desert so I ordered from the small plate section of the menu. I ordered the chicken biscuit. Or on the menu it is the Appalachian Fried Chicken Thigh and it is served on a cheddar chive biscuit. The pepper jelly and pickles added the perfect amount of flavor to the chicken biscuit. My dessert was the strawberry shortcake trifle. OOh it was delicious! This is a great place for a group.

We had the onion dip, pork chop, and strip steak. Onion dip was just okay, not what I expected. I thought it would be like pieces of roasted onion mixed in but it was more like a play on the kind of ranch onion dip you see at cookouts with some french’s onions on top. Not really worth it. But the entrees were outstanding! Berkshire pork chop was a huge slab of flavorful, fatty(in a good way) meat topped with a luscious bacon onion jam. Heavenly! The collard greens and roasted turnips served with it were spot on, the greens perfectly tender and a little bit spicy. The steak was a revelation! I don’t usually like when restaurants serve steak already cut but it was really a beautifully composed dish. The salsa verde was really more like a chimichurri and added a wonderful brightness and herbaceous flavor to the dish. One of the best steak dishes I’ve ever had at a restaurant, no lie. A bit pricey(I think it was $ 53) but worth it in my opinion. We started with the vodka cocktail which was refreshing but I couldn’t taste any vodka. We split the«bottled sazerac» which was amazing. They serve it all extremely chilled. I think maybe they put liquid nitrogen in the glasses because they were so cold I could see them steaming on the bar before the server brought it to our table. I also had a grenache rose that was forgettable. The place is all concrete and open space so prepare for it to be LOUD. We came at 10:30 and it wasn’t crowded so I imagine at peak times it will be even louder. Our waitress was a bit of a low talker which made it worse but overall service was fine, if a bit disinterested. But hey, we came late so it was to be expected. I will definitely be back!

With Deep Ellum kicking ass right now, I was so excited to discover more of the development since I’ve moved away. I was blown away with how the neighborhood we once advocated so heavily in Unilocal’s Passport to Deep Ellum 4 years ago had evolved into this vivacious, commercialized part of Dallas. Filament being an exciting addition to this list of Deep Ellum’s new phase, I was eager to check it out and hope it had what it takes to remain in the fast paced upward movement of the area. The interior is quite a sight. Industrial and open with an impressive bar and open kitchen area. We were seated immediately on a Friday night by incredibly friendly service, but unfortunately that’s where the graciousness ended. Our server seemed less than enthused to be serving that evening or just with life. When trying to determine what to order and asking for recommendations, eyes were rolled and up to 15 minutes passed before our drinks were served. I might have ordered poorly, but the half chicken with roasted veggies left much to be desired. The plate, though beautifully plated, boasted root veggies like potatoes and carrots that were unfortunately undercooked and too hard to bite into. The Pork Chop dish, however, did look delicious and was reported to be delectable from my dining companions. I would return as I especially appreciated the aesthetic of the restaurant and their concept of simple menu items that allow the beauty of basic food as opposed to being outdone by complex ingredients and cooking methods.

Having just moved to Deep Ellum, and needing a great place to bring my parents who were in town visiting, I decided to try to make a last minute reservation for dinner this past Saturday evening. I had read a couple articles about Filament’s opening, and had been wanting to give it a try. Arriving at 9:15pm for our reservation, we had arrived after the dinner rush and were promptly seated at a booth. The restaurant was still full, but not as full as I’m sure it was earlier in the evening. After reviewing the drink menu, I ordered the ‘Old Quarter’, Filament’s take on the Old Fashioned, and it hit the spot. Incredible! My parents ordered a bottle of wine at the recommendation of our server, Dana, and enjoyed the selection as well. She even kept the bottle on ice behind the bar rather than letting it sweat at our table; very classy and appreciated gesture. As some reviewers have noted, the menu is quite small as compared to other restaurants, but I think in the case of Filament, that just reflects on the high quality of the dishes and the detail put into them. Around the table we ordered: the Filament Green Salad, Appalachian Fried Chicken Thigh, Wood Grill Half Chicken, and Mahi Mahi filet(which doesn’t seem to be on their online menu currently). There was no disappointment from anyone at the table, as everything was cooked/grilled excellently. I personally had the Mahi with grilled okra and forced myself not to devour it quickly, but enjoy it slowly — so good. The atmosphere remained thoroughly enjoyable all night, as the restaurant slowly emptied towards 11:00pm. The lighting & music(not too loud) were great and I enjoyed a second ‘Old Quarter’ following my meal. Our server Dana was fantastic and very funny. I’m glad an establishment of this caliber opened in such a unique place as Deep Ellum, offering a fantastic dining option for guests/dates without having to deal with the Uptown or Knox/Henderson scenes. I’ll definitely be back in the future. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time!

Customer service: kind and attentive. Really sweet. Food: just terrible. Tiny portions for way too much money. The fried chicken biscuit? I could have gotten better at chick fill a. The shrimp platter included 6 or so shrimp on a piece of white sandwich bread with some sort of canjuny type sauce that wasn’t even flavorful. Ambiance: pretty nice. Has a sort of industrial feel to it Verdict? This is a place to get drinks. Food here is a terrible option.

For me, unfortunately, Filament suffered a tough rating partly because of high expectations. For a place with such buzz behind it, I expected a higher level of execution than what I received. Country Ham and Cheese Plate(6 out of 10). High margin item, but the charcuterie game in Dallas is on the rise, and I wasn’t overly impressed. A biscuit isn’t really the right vehicle for the way that the ham was shaved. The result was an attempt to take a small bite from the biscuit and downing an entire piece of ham. I would have also expected a better presentation/plating. The house mustard was killer though. Fried Hot Catfish(7⁄10) — I don’t normally eat catfish, but they were out of oysters. The fry was perfect, but it suffered from the same thing so many of these hot chicken/fish/duck, etc. dishes seem to suffer from: not enough heat. See Ida Claire in Addison for the same issue. House hot sauce was awesome. Berkshire Pork Chop(8.5÷10) — the most compelling reason to come back. The turnips were okay, the collards were excellent. The bacon onion jam and the jus I wanted a gallon of. The mashed potatoes we got as a side, very buttery and rich. Cocktails(8⁄10) — I don’t remember the exact names, but we had a vodka grapefruit thing(good), a gin/fruit drink(okay), whiskey smash(great) and the farmers tan(mescal and chili oil)(good but stroooooong). Overall I’d give it like a 7/10, but I probably need to go back and try some different items to be sure. The happy hour pricing sounds great, even if I do live an hour away. Service overall was good, albeit a bit more robotic and rehearsed than I would prefer.

We were part of a business group who tried this place out. The service was really good, timely and personable. The menu was definitely limited and small, but they can help with any food/dietary issues you’ve got, as they did with us. They offer some pretty decent and interesting appetizers, entrées and side dishes. Dessert menu was somewhat unique, with many southern«standards» as well. The venue matches the menu and theme quite nicely. It was comfy inside and energetic as well. Definitely worth a try for yourself and let everyone know what YOU think. From reading previous reviews, it appears they do a good job most of the time, but sometimes exhibit some deficiencies. I wouldn’t mind going back though. Only reason I couldn’t give it a 4 out of 5 is that the menu was quite limited. Portion size was decent, but there wasn’t a lot being offered, this is something they should work on, just a little.

The good: interesting location, other walking locations and area. Nice laid back and good cocktails. Great onion dip. The bad: trying to be an uptown place in deep elm is hard. I’ll be surprised if they get past the three year mark. The ugly: for the location, the place is a bit pricey and loud for what they are trying to do with the brand. For example: their flatiron steak is average but more expensive than a steak at Dallas/knife & other steakhouses??? Or same price is still not worth it. The goods leave more value and quality to be desired. We’re not coming back. They’re trying too hard and did not make a good impression overall. I’m w Mike G’s review. We dropped 150⁄2 ppl and did not see the value in it. There are other places in Dallas that back up the bill with proper delivery on content and experience.

I really enjoy Filament. This exactly the type of place that Dallas needs. Why? Because it’s not the typical Dallas«type» of space. This industrial & modern space vibe that is usually felt in other cities like NYC, DC, Philly, or even San Francisco. The kitchen is open, so you can see the chef and staff knock out dish after dish, after dish. As most restaurants these days, they have a cocktail menu. I keep my drink choices simple, however the ladies love trying new trendy things. If you haven’t noticed before reading this, the food menu is a southern cuisine. Realistically, I recommend that everyone order something different. The meal set up for you to share your food, especially the sides/veggies. I absolutely love their mashed potatoes(which I’ve ordered on every visit). Recently I had the New Orleans style bbq shrimp. One bite made my mouth water. It was full of spicy, delicious goodness! Service was prompt, courteous and friendly. They take care of their guests. Parking: It’s Deep Ellum, so there’s limited street parking meters. However there is a paid parking lot next door. Or as I recommend so much, Über or Lyft, because you will want to walk and visit other places in the area.

Confirming other reviews, service was slow but not terrible. As far as food goes, we started with the roasted onion dip to start which was killer — the perfect drunk food. Don’t be dismayed when they bring you a tiny bowl of chips — they will give you more! For entrees, I got the wood grilled octopus and it was the most perfectly cooked octopus I have ever had. Spot on. My husband got the short ribs with a side of the most amazing, swimming-in-butter, buttermilk smashed potatoes. These are definitely not for those on a diet, but DAMN they were tasty. Both drinks I got — Push It and The Vodka Cocktail — were really nice.

I had a reservation this past weekend for dinner at Filament and it was a full house when we got there. The interior was a rustic chic look and had a hip aura throughout its surroundings. The design was really cool. Please be prepared to pay to park in this area, as there’s no free parking. I normally get bothered by having to pay to park when going out to eat, but since I didn’t have a choice, I let it go. We were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation, which was fine. What wasn’t fine was how we sat at the table for over 15 minutes before flagging down what seemed to be our waiter of the area asking if we could please order drinks. The guy admitted to being our waiter and then he said he would be back and we didn’t see him until 5 more minutes later. After placing drink orders, we didn’t actually get a drink at our table until almost 30 minutes after being seated at the table. When the waiter brought our drinks, he tried to leave again saying he would be right back, and that’s when I stopped him and said we wanted to place a food order. Still, he said he would be right back and finally came back about 10 minutes later to take the order. I still can’t understand why we were seated for almost an hour before receiving anything to eat. We started out with the Roasted Baby Carrots and the Hot Catfish Sandwich. The Roasted Baby Carrots were underwhelming. Although the outside of the carrots had a good char on them, the inside of the carrots were undercooked. The Hot Catfish Sandwich was amazing! My friend and I shared everything we ordered, and this plate was a great option to share since the fish was fried with so much breading. I must say that I’m not a fan of spicy food; however, the fish had a perfect amount of spice and was flavored wonderfully! It seems as if they’ve started toasting their bread since it didn’t come out soggy. We were in the mood for biscuits, but didn’t want the fried chicken thigh biscuit sandwich. Our waiter was able to get us two biscuits as a «side», which I thought was nice. It’s too bad the biscuits were a bit on the dry side. A lot of my family are from Natchitoches, LA so when I saw Natchitoches Meat Pies on the menu, I had to try them. I grew up eating Natchitoches meat pies and wouldn’t dare to drive pass Natchitoches without making a stop for some. I wasn’t expecting the meat pies to be as good as what I’m accustomed to having, but I can actually say that these were probably the best meat pies I’ve ever had! The seasoned beef inside of that light, yet crispy fried pie was outstanding! I highly recommend them! We ordered the Cauliflower Gratin as a replacement of our craving for Mac and Cheese. In my opinion, just put Mac and Cheese on the menu… please. This side dish was so creamy, but since it’s easy to compare it to the real deal of Mac and Cheese, it lost its potential of what it could have been. I wasn’t a huge fan and if the idea of the cauliflower was to eat healthier, I didn’t feel like I was eating healthy at all with the huge amount of cream. Overall, the food was ok, but the service was terribly slow. They really need to improve the customer service here in order to keep diners wanting to come back for more. There’s a lot of other menu items I’d love to try, but I won’t be in a rush back since the waiters aren’t in any kind of rush to provide service.

For a number of reasons, Filament has quickly becoming a favorite of mine. For openers the ambiance of the space is just what I prefer; a bit industrial, a touch of contemporary and very open(there’s even a view of the kitchen). There is also an enclosed patio area on the front side; closest to the sidewalk of Main Street. Having dined here on several occasions I’m pleased to say the staff is consistently attentive. From the host/hostess to the servers, they are always very friendly and accommodating. Each time I’ve dined here it’s been with a different person and on each occasion the server takes time to review/explain the menu. The menu is southern influenced with an ‘off-beat’ twist which makes for a variety of choices. Some would even say the menu has a certain ‘edge’ to it. Most entrées are large enough to share and I usually do just that; order several things and share them. As a result I’ve made it through a decent portion of the menu and quickly have identified my favorites; Fried ‘Hot’ Catfish(order this if you like spicy, HOT food), Wood Grilled Octopus(delicious beyond words; just order it) and the Appalachian Fried Chicken Thighs(this comes with an amazing biscuit that you will NOT want to share). I have tried several other entrees and while delicious they left me wanting a little more flavor. As for sides, which are also a sharable size, I always enjoy the Wood Grilled Broccolini and the Cauliflower Gratin. And whatever you do, be sure to leave room for dessert. The options are impressive with my favorites being the Texas Pecan Pie and the Coconut Cake. While these are sized to share, I recommend getting your own. Two things I still need to try here the brunch menu. There are some items of interest that I definitely want to try. Also, I want to stop in and dine at the bar(my favorite pastime). I expect both will equal my previous experiences here. For the all the above mentioned reasons, I a fan of Filament. And because it is a 5 – 7 minute walk from my house I am a BIG fan of Filament. Having dining options like this in my ‘backyard’ is always plus.

I really wanted to love this place since I had heard such great things, but unfortunately it fell short of my expectations. I did really enjoy the vodka cocktail — a perfect mix of sweet and tangy with ginger! First tried the catfish as it had so many good reviews. Like others have stated, was definitely HOT, which I enjoyed. The batter was nice and crispy as well. Other than the hot flavor, it really lacked any other flavors and therefore fell short of expectations. Next, we tried the beef tartare. This was probably the best thing on the menu that we tried but also not anything that blew me away either. The New Orleans bbq shrimp dish had good flavor but reminded me nothing of shrimp I’ve had in New Orleans. Also, for some reason the shrimps were a little on the mushy side. Okonomiyaki was reasonably good. Could have also used a little more flavor. Grits were way too salty. Overall, the dishes sounded nice on paper but failed to execute with taste and quality. Don’t think I’ll be rushing back to visit given the multitude of delicious food options in Dallas.

I haven’t brunched in a while, so I thought I’d give this place a shot. My sister and I usually roam Deep Ellum when we don’t feel like driving/taking Lyft somewhere. Not a bad choice at all. Service was fantastic. Granted, they weren’t super busy on Sunday at noon, but we got a lot of attention nonetheless. Eats: Appalachian fried chicken thigh Bloody Mary Filament breakfast Punch Everything was fantastic. I’m not even a fried chicken person, but ordered the Appalachian fried chicken thigh because the photos/reviews were so good here. My sister ordered the Filament breakfast, a more traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, home fries, and biscuits and gravy. The gravy was amazing. Bloody Mary was on point. There’s a nice spicy kick. Would definitely return.

Filament is a surprise in Deep Ellum. It feels trendy with panache. The exposed wall of an industrial building still has some grit and spray paint. The space is large, someone said 5000 square feet, with an open kitchen and an attentive staff. At a company Christmas party we were able to sample most of the menu which had a down home fancy party southern bent. Sadly I was unable to sample everything because I got full but I wanted to gorge. Fresh Crab on housemade lavash was a delicious start. The charcuterie board came with a cured ham, a perfect duck rilette and grilled bread. For entrees we had the pork chop with collard greens and a red snapper that were both on point. The desserts were straightforward pecan pie, red velvet cake and a large moist coconut cake, the latter being my favorite. Filament is FT33’s casual concept in Deep Ellum. It’s got a lower price point and feels special. There was no happy hour but their take on an old fashion with sorghum and chicory was a nice easy spin on a classic.

Here goes: Came here on a whim after seeing the place packed. Upon arriving, we were seated immediately, which I thought was very nice. We arrived around 9, and we thought we might be a bit late. The hostess was kind in telling us that they stop seating at 10, but they will continue to serve food until 11 or so. That is great for fine dining late eaters in Dallas(like us). We ordered the Sauvignon Blanc for the wine, as we didn’t feel like having anything too hard on a Monday night(crazy, right?). Wine was delicious, and it had a perfect taste that complimented our meal. We ordered the Hot Catfish as an appetizer, and man oh man. I mean this ish was to die for. The hot catfish is a battered fried catfish dish served on top of Texas Toast and topped with a dill ranch sauce. Just get it. And thank me later. There was only one filet that was a little too thick for catfish. I could taste the fresh watery taste that accompanies this type of fish. Other than that it was delicious. For the main dishes, we ordered the grilled chicken with vegetables and the smashed potatoes on the side. The potatoes were a tad cool, which was a little disappointing. Delicious, just not hot when they arrived at our table. The chicken was tender and moist. The skin crispy and(a tad too much) salty. Very good vegetables served under the chicken, as well. Here’s why I’m giving four stars: waitress forgot the cauliflower gratin we ordered. I was really looking forward to it! She checked on us a bit, but never mentioned the gratin. Oh well. Also, for the prices, there were a few things that could have been improved with the food. The catfish filet was a bit thick and not cooked in one spot, and the chicken skin was a tad too salty, and the potatoes a bit cool upon arrival. Other than that? I’m thoroughly impressed and am excited to return!

Blown away with this discrete restaurant on Main St. I’m sure it’ll turn to be one of Dallas best new restaurant in do time. Ambiance: The design is open concept with exposed brick from the original building which works well; think a combo New Orleans and NYC. With a sprawling floor plan from end to end and the bar being the focal point which is good; for me it fits Deep Ellum. For a Tuesday night when I went it was particularly busy. The food: for starters I think the food is going to be great given that they have a 9 month barrel aged hot sauce that they make to complement their food. Menu is simple and sticks to the southern comfort food. They offer sharable plates as starters with dinner portions also to be shared; again sticking to southern family sharing vibe. I tried the spare ribs which were phenomenal paired with that amazing hot sauce. Drinks: they have an amazing bar staff whipping out craft cocktails quality drinks. Tried the old southern which is their take on an old fashion and was better than expected. Customer service: maybe because it’s new the customers service experience was out of the world, I think everyone minus the kitchen staff came to say hello and thanked us for coming in Overall this place is on good tracks to become a Dallas Mainstay in their debatably hottest neighborhood. Tip: if there’s a wait to sit cross the street to Braindead for a beer.
