We came in tonight at around 9:50. Please tell me why after being seated and water given, server comes out and say kitchen is closed. This place says it closes at 10:30. I’m pretty disappointed.

Heaven in Oaklawn. I don’t remember how I stumbled upon this awesome place, but I am so glad I did. Awesome ambiance, great service, reasonably priced smoothies. My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer. Can’t wait to visit again in the future.

WOW! This place is amazing! I’m vegan and there are so many options! I actually like the place so much I try something new every time, and haven’t been disappointed in the slightest. So far my 2 favorite items are the No Bull Burger, & the Cosmic Stir. Both are heavenly. If you like flavor in your food, you gotta check this place out! The ambiance is great too. Just don’t sit in the corner cause they’ll forget about you lol.

Why is the guy who owns the place always yelling at someone? I love the food here and I’ve taken a couple of meditation sessions with the bowl-playing, they were so nice. Yelling at a girl on the patio this week, bawling out a yoga teacher about dancing something, lecturing a lady about how many people in class. Either I have the worst luck ever visiting this place, or he might be a tirant. Also, the Cosmic Stir and samosas are fantastic.

This is a couple blocks from my office so I’ve been a few times. Get the Cosmic Stir. You won’t be disappointed. I haven’t had a bad thing on this menu but that’s my fave. Décor is bright and fun, but the place is a bit cramped inside and parking is horrific. Service is a bit slow… not sure if it’s always like that or if it’s because we sat outside, but we had to chase down our check even asking several times for it. Overall though love the food!

Not only does this place have an incredible amount of character but the food is off the chain as well! We visited for the first time last night after having passed this unmistakable restaurant along Oak Lawn which in my mind looks like a Buddha frat house. We started with the lentil soup and the squash bisque both of which were delicious however the lentils were simply perfect. And the nan? Delightfully crisp and lusciously soft at the same time. There is another review here that says something negative about the lentils. They should be shot. I feel like there is some super-secret spice combination going on in that soup that causes an addiction. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and my wife had a sandwich called«A Fold In Thyme». The enchilada plate included a lovely jasmine rice, black beans and a salad along with a house dressing with a delightful pear flavor. However… the sandwich is something to write home about. Just like you wish your mama could have made. We will be back simply for the sandwich. Seriously — you gotta try it. Lastly in a moment of weakness having had our defenses destroyed by the rico cuisine… we took dessert home. Carrot cake was fantastic 8⁄10. But the cheesecake(not vegan) had a crust that still causes me to lick my lips when I think about it. 10⁄10. We were waited on by a conversational and always smiling Raquel as well as a few other happy people who were great. This place gets our best marks. Hope they keep up the good work.

You aren’t vegetarian, you say? That’s okay, because this café is perfect for meat and non-meat eaters. I highly recommend the Buddha’s Delight, Cosmic Stir, and Pizza Mystica. My favorite is the Cosmic Stir, a tofu stir with an assortment of vegetables covered in an amazing yogurt sauce. Of course, the drawbacks to dine here is poor service, terrible parking situation, and unpleasant live music.

Currently here at lunch on this beautiful Friday. Sitting outside by the flowers while calming music plays. My fiancé ordered the Buddhas delight which was absolutely amazing. I got the Herban Renewal which was spectacular. This place makes me want to go vegetarian!!! SO good if you haven’t gone it is a Must. Great food great service and really good vibes. The patio is too fun!

4 stars for décor and atmosphere. Food for my indian taste bud, is a little on a bland side. We ordered sufi plate, paneer pakoda, budha Feist. Food was very light, less oil, low on spices, and whole heart food. Very healthy food. Oh tea was very nice.

This place is very cute. It’s got good fresh vegetarian food. I had the taco trio and it was a huge plate. I like the ambiance of the place and the servers are extremely nice. Sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the afternoon. It’s very cute,. Oh yeah I already said that haha. I would come back here again for sure.

I love Cosmic Café and come here all the time. The Samosas are great, as well as the No Bull Burger and Rumi’s Falafel. The Mango Lasse is yummy too. Everything is always fresh and fast. I’ve yet to have anything I didn’t like! Two thumbs up! Friendly people too!

The best thing about this place is the décor, honestly. It’s beautiful and every wall, including the outside ones, is painted with detailed pictures rife with color and gorgeous scenery. Eating here is definitely an experience. This restaurant is essentially inside a house, so I understand parking is difficult when your lot is essentially a portioned driveway, but it took us ten minutes to pull out of our spot and leave because people kept coming in the single entry/exit. There are maybe ten or so tables ranging from two to eight seats in the restaurant, so good luck getting seats if you come during normal meal hours. The tables are very close together and I had to move multiple times to let someone from another table get up to get something. I had the Socrates Plato, which is essentially mushrooms with a ton of tomato flavor over basmati rice with a garden salad. The tomato was too overpowering, and I generally enjoy tomatoes in my food. There were also plenty of whole peppercorns that lent an unnecessary aftertaste to my food. We ordered a side of samosas, but I don’t suggest it because they have very little flavor and you only get two for the price. A big part of why I wanted to come here was their famous vegan cakes, but they didn’t have one today, and on a Sunday no less. Needless to say I was very disappointed. All in all, I’m glad I went for the experience, but I won’t be coming back.

Update: Service: The service was good. Food: It was disappointing. The chai tea was so watered downed that I thought it was a diet version. The tomato soup was a sad version of what I once loved to order. It was for some reason watered down and sweet. The main entrée veggie quesadilla were decent at best and the enchiladas had no flavor other than a bland taste that I wanted washed out with watered down chai. Overall: It’s the second time that I’ve visited the place and had the same experience. I’m not sure what has changed but it’s no longer the place I once enjoyed. I will not be returning and no longer recommend this place to people.

Came here on a Monday around 4pm since it was the only place where I could satisfy my want for Indian food after a week in Hong Kong. The gf had the Buddhas delight and I ordered the mandala pizza. Buddhas delight was really below par. I mean how can you mess up lentil soup? The curries veggies were kinda ok and the samosa seemed to be really old and hard to chew. The pizza was just raw veggies on a naan and lacked taste and honestly looked totally unappetizing! I might be a bit biased since I love Indian food and this was more of an American café with Indian names and ingredients. Apart from the chill Indian setting, everything else is very hippie ish and American. I would still recommend it for vegetarians who don’t dig Indian food that much.

This place is the most utterly overrated restaurant in Dallas. They overcharge you for everything. They serve you iceberg and whithered lettuce. Careful, their chai tea is not free. Their water tastes like it comes out of an old water hose. And their food is so bland. It’s like they went across the street to Krogers and bought the cheapest ingredients and threw them on an elementary lunch plate. Never going back

Where do I begin! I lived in Dallas 13 years ago. I moved across the country and have lived many places in between! The cosmic café is still my favorite place to eat. The bottomless chai, great food and wonderful atmosphere is just the start! I am so happy to see they are still flourishing even after all these years. I haven’t been in Dallas for quite some time, but the next time I am The cosmic café will be my first stop

Super cozy, from the tiny colorful tables to the plastic cat in the«fireplace». The Dahl Soup is really yummy, I can’t attest to any other dishes, unfortunately, but will be back to try some more. Everyone is super-friendly and the vibe is extremely chill.

Food is awesome. What is lacking in it being a great experience every visit is the customer service. I sat down on my lunch break and waited for over 10 minutes without anyone asking what I wanted to eat. So I left and went to spend my money elsewhere.

I love this place so much! They boast meditation rooms upstairs, consistently delicious eclectic vegetarian fare, yummy vegan cakes, free refills on soy chai tea lattes, and a relaxing creative ambiance! Definitely one of my favorite go to places in Dallas, especially as a vegan! Parking is the only difficult thing, be prepared, it is sparse and narrow.

I’ve lived near here for years now but never been in until today. Certainly they’re true to their Buddhist name and aesthetic — it really is a beautiful building with an intriguing and communal interior — but their food sadly isn’t worth the surroundings. I ordered the«Dal, Naan, and Garden of Silence(read: salad)», which came in at $ 9 including tax. The dal was thin but reasonably tasty, being mostly peppery without much sourness, but not bad. Salad was sad, but it’s January so I can’t really blame them — it’s my own fault for ordering a salad in January — but really, why bother with tomatoes when they are hothouse and don’t taste of anything? And why bother with unseasonal carrots and tasteless iceberg? If salad is literally top of your entrees list in January, make the effort to get it right. Spinach, beets, maybe some sundried tomatoes for sweetness: it’s all possible if you make an effort, which this place clearly doesn’t. There was a grudging side of dressing, which tasted a bit like mango. Naan comprised those uniform wedge cuts from the supermarket. It was floppy and completely unremarkable — the Wonder Bread of naan. Really awful. Service was friendly but a few minutes after ordering my server returned to ask me what I’d ordered, which was something on the menu with no alterations. She was really nice about it but it was a standard dish, so why forget? Like more than one restaurant on Oak Lawn, this place seems to have its regulars who love it, and they keep it going. That’s totally fine and I respect that — that model is prevalent in a lot of places worldwide — but it does mean that I can’t recommend it to a bypasser. Avoid it — the food isn’t worth it, even at the low price. Frankly it all seems a bit cynical, where the yoga-friendly surroundings disguise a total rip-off for the bare minimum of quality. I will not return.

There isn’t any way this place isn’t perfect. Cosmic café puts the OM in Nom. The wait staff is so sweet and professional. The food expertly prepared. The serving sizes are a great value for the price. Share the smoothies though. Very very rich.

I want to emphasize how Cosmic is not only an excellent Vegetarian exclusive restaurant, but a killer choice for all the meat eaters out there too(myself included). I tend to stick with more of the traditional Indian plates but they have amazing Vegetarian pizzas and some of the best creamy spinach enchiladas you will ever have. Seriously, everything is good here and the portions are very generous and satisfying for big appetites. My favorite plate is definitely the Buddha’s delight which gives you a good variety of different items. Make certain to take advantage of the unlimited self-serve chai tea bar for about $ 5, great deal! The wait staff here is excellent and the whole place has a very cool, laid back vibe which is only furthered by the fact that there is an upstairs space for meditation and yoga. Not to mention that they have really cool metal cups that are reflective inside so you can say hi to yourself while taking a gulp of water! Just be warned that there are only a few spots behind the restaurant and neighboring business tend to tow, so parking may be tough.

From the moment you begin walking up to the restaurant you are in for such a pleasant surprise. The décor is simply amazing! From the stone Buddha that faces the parking entrance, to the beautiful mural that is painted across from it, you know that you are entering an atmosphere that is both zen and inviting. Walking into the restaurant you are(wonderfully) overwhelmed with many vibrant colors and textiles that decorate the inside. As a first timer, we weren’t very sure how to order, and we didn’t have anyone come up to us for at least 5 minutes, but it seemed on the busier side, so this was understood. We got our menus, and man, do they have quite the selection! They should consider a sample platter, for veteran vegetarians like myself who want to eat everything, and non-vegetarians like my friend who would have appreciated trying a few things(and of course, whatever she didn’t finished would end up in my belly). Either way, I opted for Rumi’s Falafel and my friend ordered the Spicy Lentil Soup. Let’s just say that neither of us shared our meals with the other because it was THAT damn good. Every bite was filled with such flavors, if I weren’t in public, I may have licked the plate! My vegetarian girlfriend is coming into town and this will be the first place that I take her. It’s delicious, it’s inviting, it’s alive and honestly, moderately priced(vegans/vegetarians know exactly what I mean). I HIGHLY recommend anyone considering this restaurant to just go and let the experience speak for itself!

Yes the place is beautiful, the food healthy, it’s an overall experience that’s amazing. But the taste of their food was a 3 – 3.5. It’s good but nothing spectacular. I give this place a 4 because I appreciate healthy vegetarian restaurants as there aren’t many around.

Very vibrant atmosphere. I am loving the zen vibes with colorful symbols everywhere. My friends an I loved the atmosphere immediately! Definitely worth the terrible parking spots(beware, there’s EXTREMELY limited parking). I had the Cosmic Stir, which was a tofu dish with white rice and salad, which was all vegetarian, ofc, and it was pretty good. Hearty dish. I sampled some potato curry and it was delicious. I’ll have to return some time later to see what other plates they offer. Also, their chai was decent. They use soymilk, and it is nice and calming to sip on. But the price was a bit steep for just a mug of chai($ 3).

We had instant déjà vu entering the Cosmic Café. Turns out there had been a Cosmic in Austin some years ago(it needs to return!). The décor and vibe of Dallas’ Cosmic were perfect for a rainy Fall night. Our dinner was the squash soup, the Cosmic stir fry, and the Masala«pizza». All were flavorful and satisfying; good portions too. Everything was«tasty spicy» but not hot. We didn’t get the samosas, but they were huge and looked good. It was a healthy reprieve from road food. But mainly everything tasted really good. Vegetables were infused with flavors but not overcooked. Didn’t have room for dessert, but went ahead and split a slice of vegan coconut cake with fresh strawberries. A happy ending to the dinner. Parking in the area obviously is difficult for many neighborhood businesses. The Cosmic had many notices inside and outside of where not to park(the US Post Office, Office Depot, and others). We easily found street parking two short blocks away. To conclude: relaxing, fun, tasty, & healthy. We will be back.

Full disclosure — I went to Woodstock. Okay, it was actually the Festival at the Texas Motor Speedway, but I did work at the Armadillo World Headquarters. That qualifies me as an old hippie. I love the Cosmic Cup. I love the funky painted house. I love everything on everything on the menu. I love the yoga class upstairs. I love the herb tea. And I love the Beano I need after eating here. Between the shouting of the unsupervised children of the hipster couple eating beside me and the sobbing of the lesbian in the corner who had just been dumped by her girlfriend, it was a little noisy the last time I ate here on a Friday night, It helped to walk off my ear pain by walking to my car, which was conveniently parked a short 3.7 miles from the café. My suggestion is that you will enjoy this place more if you come at an off time, drive a car that can fit in a small parking place, and just enjoy the noise. It’s what I do now.

All right, so let’s preface that I don’t normally eat vegetarian food. veggies to me– side dish. However, my mother-in-law was in town and she’s vegetarian on mondays… so off we go. 1. Ambiance– REALLY eclectic. each piece of art individually is very beautiful and you can tell a lot of love went into each piece. all together… chaos. TOO much stuff everywhere. I have no idea how people can tune everything out to meditate. but then again– that’s me. i can’t have distractions otherwise I can’t get to «that» place. 2. Service– good. 3. Price– a little on the high side… especially for veggies-only. like even the mango lassi. $ 4! 4. Food– this is where we get to two stars… my Mandala pizza was almost raw veggies on naan i think. not great. okra was good flavor, but not a great dish overall with the other stuff. samosas were solid. the bombay sage was okay… the lentils were very hard though. my MIL also asked for it to spicy… it was not spicy… i didn’t even think it was spicy, and if you’re following me– u know i don’t like spicy very much. 5. extra– they have meditation rooms up top– seems legit! sorry– won’t be back. :( –hh

Been wanting to come here for ages since I’ve kept seeing it on my «suggested restaurants». Finally got a chance to come here with a vegetarian friend, and it was gr8 time! The place itself looks very eccentric. It’s a small building with lavish exterior paintings and decors. The small patio area that leads into the door is decorated by many hanging sequins and flowers, welcoming customers with some nicely shaded outside seating. Once you walk in, you will be greeted with even more bright colored paintings and drawings. Overall, very cool and really nice conversation topics! ;) The worst part about Cosmic Café is the parking. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, but it is so small that my relatively bulky SUV struggled to get into the spot and come out in one piece. Pretty sure I had to do a 50 point turn just so I can leave the restaurant without scratching my car. The situation is worsened by the fact that the alleyway that leads to the small parking area is equally narrow… so just pray that there’s not someone trying to come out as you are getting in… anyways… to the food! We were quickly served by a very friendly waiter. He recommended the Buddha’s Delight and the Cosmic Stir… which were apparently 2 favorites of the restaurant. My Cosmic Stir was a well cooked salad plate with tofu, rice, broccoli, ice berg lettuce, cucumber, and other assortment of veggies(see pic!) Although simple, I REALLY enjoyed the dish as it provided a good balance of fiber and carbs. The dressing on the side was tangy, which gave the dish some good flavor. My friend’s Buddha’s Delight included a bowl of curry, a rather large samosa, and potatoes. It was also pretty good, but I thought it was a little heavy on the carb side. I am a huge fan of curry, so I shall not complain. We ordered Gulab Jamun for dessert. For those new to this dish, be prepared to consume just about the sweetest thing your mouth can savor. Imagine a cake/pancake ball injected with 500cc of syrup, served in a bowl of sweet sugary juice, and a side of whipped cream. Even though the whip cream really helped damped the sweetness, it was still a little too much. I had to chug my cup of water directly afterward to compensate for the undoubtedly unforgiving spike in my blood sugar content. In all, great experience. Loved the place. Great restaurant to drop in for a nice ‘catch up’ meal. The only downside is the lack of good parking, but everything else was superb.

The first thing I have to say about this place is the parking. You can park at the Office Depot right across the street and walk to the restaurant. Cosmic Café has an incredibly tiny parking lot so don’t even bother looking; it’s cramped and maneuvering your way out of the parking lot is a hassle. If you’re a fan of vegetarian Indian food, this place is for you! I always order the Buddhist Delight, which consists of their veggie of the day, papadam, naan, lentil soup, rice, and one samosa. It’s usually $ 10 and their portions are generous. As for the dessert, check the blackboard near the entrance since they change often. There’s also a meditation room upstairs. You’re not allowed to wear shoes or speak loudly. It’s an interesting addition to the restaurant so check it out!

I am obsessed with the Buddha’s Delight! It’s like a sampler plate of everything. It is so filling and only costs $ 10. Whenever I bring my friends here, we always get the Buddha’s Delight and split a hummus appetizer. The hummus has a yogurt-y flavor to it kind of like tzatziki sauce. We liked it! :) When you eat here, you don’t even realize that you’re eating vegetarian food. You get a hearty meal that is very satisfying!
