Some of Maryland’s Best Crabcakes… I highly recommend Tom & Ray’s for the Excellent food and friendly staff.

i wanted to love the breakfast… my kind of place… haven’t been to tom&ray’s for quite a while… nice drive up new hampshire… the breakfast was just about worthless… plastic tasting eggs… edible bacon… that’s the one star… awful chopped up potato… cold, tasteless, underdone… never had a worse version of home fries… cold rye toast… bad coffee… can’t imagine ever going back to try the fried chicken again… leave that to red rooster… sorry…one of the worst breakfasts i’ve ever had…

Stopped thru while on business and grabbed lunch. True hometown cooking with extremely friendly staff. Practically every customer knew the owner personally. Loved my turkey club– huge portions and tasty bacon! Definitely a must try for a great price!

I love this place for breakfast. Their breakfast sandwiches are the bomb but I’m writing this review based on the experience we just had. We get there and our orders are taken, our waitress messed up our drink order and brought out diet coke instead of sprite, I said I would take the diet coke very loudly and that you could just get my boyfriend a sprite and she ignored me and took away the diet coke. I shrugged it off. She took our food orders and I asked for the bacon cheeseburger, she brings our food out and first of all my boyfriends chicken tender platter had like two strips on it and like 5 fries. They forgot my bacon on the burger and when I asked where my bacon was, she tried to blame it on someone in the kitchen when it was quite obvious she wrote down the order wrong. Not only that but I couldn’t have gotten a better quality burger at McDonald’s for a fraction of the price and it would have been tastier.
I love this place for breakfast but I will never returning for lunch, disappointed is an understatement.

Just ate here got a hot roast beef sandwich gets an gravy. Meet was dry gravy was tasteless. Friend got a club an said it wasn’t good. Other friend just got a chicken sandwich an the tomato was thicker then the chicken. I would have gave it 2 for the service but when we got our our check she was a bitch

I practically grew up at this restaurant. The folks at the front bar are adorable and extremely sweet. I usually get the tuna salad and hot fudge sundae here. I highly recommend stopping by at the homey Tom & Rays restaurant that every resident knows in Damascus.
They always have adorable décor in the front window too! I always smile when I walk by it!

The chicken salad sandwich is the best, the service is great orders are mostly ready by the time you pick them up

This is my first review I have ever given on Unilocal.Our waitress took our order very kindly and I said thank you and I asked her what her name was. Her reply was, «you don’t need to know that!» And she walked off. I wanted to thank her by name for taking care of us and taking our order. She was nice the first 2 minutes than was a witch the rest of the time. I still don’t know what her name is. She’s the older heavy set lady. Watch out for her. I took the time to download the Unilocal app and make an account just to write this review. That goes to show how inappropriate her behavior and attitude was. Plus she didn’t get a tip either.

You know how every sci-​fi movie from the 80s had that scene in a retro diner on a desert highway? Welcome to Tom & Ray’s.
It’s a great opportunity for time travel, but not for a post-​Eisenhower meal.

The two things I like most about Tom and Rays is the ride (beautiful landscape coming up New Hampshire Ave) and the restaurant atmosphere. It’s a true diner. I also like the pancakes and coffee. I was a little disappointed today to notice the blueberry pancakes listed on the white board behind the counter after I ordered. They don’t have them on the menu, so I missed them. The regular pancakes were good, though. The other good thing about Tom and Rays was the service. It was great. I never had to track anyone down for coffee. They cleaned up my table while I continued to read, so I could be more comfortable.
I was real disappointed in the «home fries.» They were cooked, but not like home fries. It was like they baked a potatoe, removed the skin, and chopped it up. I like my home fries cooked well (some crunch). These were mostly just white potatoes.

I always aim to try the mom and pops and support local business… But man what a let down. I went once for breakfast and won’t be going back. The service was super slow. The orange «juice» wasn’t fresh… The food took FOREVER and when it arrived (not all at once) — some things were very cold. We would have complained to the waitress, but she wasn’t paying much attention to us between her multiple smoke breaks. I think for breakfast the prices were too high.

Very good breakfast at reasonable prices. A good, small town atmosphere. The sausage is really good, as are the pancakes. Can’t wait to try lunch here.

Love it! Like any hole in the wall. You have to know what to get. If you try to venture outside of the greasy spoon comfort zone, you will be disappointed.
Sandwiches, soups, and breakfast items — Are the best.
Stay away from pretty much everything else.
And don’t, under any circumstances, use the salad bar. :)

Nice people. Good food. People are right about the very nice BLT. The homemade brownie was more of cupcake, but moist, so I liked it even though I don’t have much of a sweet-​tooth. The tea is good, but the sweet tea is a little sweet for my taste.
I want to try the fried chicken. You need to wait almost half an hour for it, but that’s we way it should be, so we’ll be back.
