Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream and Treatery

Went here looking for an ice cream cake for a birthday. There was a good variety and I found an all chocolate one that mom would have loved. Unfortunately, all of their cakes were freezer burned. The employee didn’t seem to think it was important, but I would have been embarrassed to present it like that. It should be an easy fix to the freezer settings.
Another customer did come in and quickly bought one. I don’t know if they noticed but there are other cakes in town. Dairy Queen has cakes made from their unique soft serve. Hy-​Vee has ice cream mixed with real cake. Whiteys has cake rolls and other non-​cake treats. We drove around and ultimately picked the Dairy Queen one which everyone loved.
One star based on this experience only. I will try them again next time I have an opportunity because I did start there because I thought we would hit a homerun with them. If the cake was higher quality, I would have tried the ice cream and bought it.

Maggie Moo’s is a franchise operation encased in a playful and colorful environment that is fun for kids of all ages. Maggie Moo’s bills itself as the home of the frozen granite slab, that sounds like a mortuary at first, but once you visit and see the operation, it makes perfect sense!
The ice creams are all premium with about 14% butterfat. (That’s what makes it so smooth and creamy!) After you’ve made your choice of what flavor and what container (I chose a small dish) your flavor is scooped out and plopped onto a slab of granite that is covered with frost. You choose what you would like to have mixed in with your selection, and it is all blended together, by hand, on the frozen slab while you eagerly watch.
I choose a small dish of Red Velvet Wonderful flavor with chocolate chips blended in. Even though it was a small dish, it was all I could do to finish it.
There are no Maggie Moo’s in Wisconsin, so I’ll just have to suffer with Leon’s Frozen Custard (oh, the sacrifice) until I can get back to Davenport for another visit to Maggie Moo’s.

How have I not reviewed this Maggie Moo’s?! I’ve been to other Maggie Moo’s, and this one definitely has the nicest staff, cleanest store, and best ice cream. Their coconut ice cream is addicting — I crave it. And they have the best Cake Batter ice cream I have ever had! I don’t even feel the need to add any mix-​ins when I order! I love that they have pints/​quarts of ice cream that you can take home as well. Their cupcakes and cakes are great for birthdays and events as well. It’s definitely one of my favorite places to go for ice cream in the QC!
