I just moved for my job, and this place give’s Davis a bad rap. I just bought a used car and it was not starting right up so I Unilocaled auto repair davis ca. AAR and towing popped up and I took my car over. Sorry, it was lunch time so the manager of the shop helped me, I told him I need to find out what was going on, and he said it is $ 96 dollar’s an hour for labor and I said ok then his lovely wife wife gave me a ride to my next job. (In home nurse) So the next day I show up and they said I need a new starter and I said ‘ok’ how much he said to read the note’s and I did and it said $ 536 dollars and some change and I said’for a starter. LISTEN folk’s I know a little bit about cars my father when he was alive was a MASTER aircraft and auto mechanic and him and I worked on all my car’s together. So I said why so much and how long will it take. Well 1 ½ hours for labor… OK stay with me 96 dollars at 1 ½ is $ 150 ok and so the rebuilt (YES REBUILT) is about $ 400.00. I can not pay 536 for some thing that should cost me 300 or 350 at most. If any one knows where this place is located it is behind Napa auto parts and on the way out I stopped by and asked how much a starter would cost for my American car. 150 after core charge. Me and a buddy of mine changed it and I gave him 50 dollars for labor. After the car cooled down it took us less then 20 minutes to change it. Advance auto repair and tow you tried to rip me off and that is not good business. I like to know how many other people you have ripped off because it can’t just be me you did this to. I am so upset with you business, if I did not have a job, i would picket your place of business for a week tell people not to do business with you. P. S I wish I was with DATELINE NBC catch automotive theft over charging customer. Yes I am upset with your business.

I have been bringing my cars to Advanced Auto for service and smog checks since the 1990’s. It’s always been fairly easy to make an appointment, especially for smog checks. Paul and Kevin are easy going and make sure they take care of you. If you need a smog check, it’s one of the least expensive smog checks in the entire region, especially if you download the online coupon.

Wes really helped me out of a jam. He was prompt and professional. Great service. He changed my tire and gave me a few pointers if I’m ever stuck on my own.

I love these people! I’ve had my car serviced here only a few times but I’ve felt the customer service was by far the best I’ve had at a repair shop in years. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and I trust them. I will continue to use them for my repairs and tows.

I highly recommend this place to everyone. These guys literally saved my car after I thought I’ll have to get rid of it. Unbelievable. The heat sensor was all the way up, crazy smoke coming from the front of my car, huge crack in my radiator… I thought it’s done. It’s 1998 vehicle. I was certain I permanently damaged the engine. But these guys know what they are doing. Paul is the best! He was so honest with me on the phone, saying that replacing radiator might not fix the car if the engine is damaged, and was warning me that instead of paying $ 500 for the radiator I might as well just get rid of the vehicle. Because it’s a risk, and there is no guarantee. I really appreciate how many details he provided about what could be done, and what is the possible outcome of the repairs. I decided to take a chance and replace the radiator, and these guys did their job so good — my car is running perfect now! Besides that, their service is so quick! They were able to look at my car the same morning it broke! It’s very important to me as I need my car every day to get to work. And they also give you complimentary rides to and from their place! Amazing! Seriously, they take care of everything for you in such a stressful situation, they are great! And Mark, the guy who towed my car («All about towing»), was super professional and very quick with his service, and is so much fun to talk to! Overall, great experience. Well, I have a habit of having to compliment outstanding service! Read my past Unilocal and you’ll see what I mean. But, I can also tell it like it needs to be told when need be! You can count on that.
And compliment this business, I must. I am quite dismayed by reading a review which indicated women should not use this business. I strongly disagree! Paul, who is the person I work with when I need car advice, is wonderful and probably one of the most honest men I have ever come across in the automotive business. While not the owner, Paul, is knowledgeable and always gives good advice when we call with our car questions… free advice! My husband has taken our car and SUV here for years for SMOG checks. The owner has been in business for years and years. He does the SMOG checks himself. My husband said he is honest. My husband worked in a gas station growing up and knows a lot about cars. So that is a big plus coming from him.
This business would not BE in business this long in Davis if it were not top notch!!!

had some issues passing Smog test, failing the ‘functional’ test, not the emissions. Called this shop, which is near my workplace in Davis (I live in Sacramento). They quoted me $ 96 for an estimate. This is standard and normal and fine. I’m willing to pay a little more for the convenience of being able to take care of these things while i’m at work.
However, a few hours after I dropped my car off, they called me back to inform me that an ESTIMATE alone would now be in excess of $ 300. This is unacceptable, indefensible, and unjust.
i went into this shop today, hoping to start a new business relationship, and instead walked away feeling scammed. I would NOT recommend this shop to anyone, and I have already let my UC Davis coworkers know of my extremely negative experience with this unprofessional, unethical and shady-​feeling shop.

We are fairly new to town and decided to use Advanced Auto Repair & Towing because they offer a free local tow and I am so glad that I did! They charged a very reasonable price to get my car up and running again and provided outstanding customer service from start to finish, from both the person who picked up and towed my car and from Paul when we picked it up. I was very impressed when I drove my car home to notice that it was cleaned and smelled great. I felt that they really went above and beyond with their service and we will return for any repair issues we have in the future!

Paul is a great guy. He and his crew have taken care of two of my older Toyotas. And he even accommodates me when I’m short on time. I drive up here from the South Bay to get get work done because I really trust Advanced Auto.

First rate customer service and advice. My car overheated while friends were driving it back from Seattle to the Bay Area (at 11:30pm!). Kevin towed it 30 miles to their shop, Paul called me at 8:30am the next morning with a diagnosis (hole in the radiator), and had the car back on the road by mid afternoon. Very reasonable quote, Paul and Kevin were both extremely pleasant to talk to, and I came away impressed enough to write this review!

Called to get my water pump replaced tried to up sale me .Than was very rud with me when I told him I did not want to do it

Extremely good customer service. They are genuinely concerned with doing right by their customer. Fast and family friendly. They have toys in the waiting room to occupy children you wait. I will be bringing my families’ vehicles here again!

Went in for advanced exhaust repairs due to a failed smog test. They did wonderful in explaining everything to me. Truck ran beautifully afterwords, and at the end they washed my truck And replaced my gas cap all for free.

A smog check is a smog check, right? Wrong! Here is a place that takes APPOINTMENTS for a smog check!!! I was quite impressed with the customer service of Advanced Auto Repair. From the pleasant phone call when I made an appointment (did I mention they take appointments?) to the efficient intake when I showed up, to their calling me when my car was done (and done early too). On top of that, I believe they have the lowest price for a smog check in Davis.
I recommend Advanced Auto Repair and will return in two years.
BTW, my car passed, whew.
