I’m so glad to have found Davis Auto Works. I was still taking my high-​mileage car to the dealer. It’s great to have a reasonably priced place I trust.

I have been bringing assorted cars to Shane for years after checking out other Davis shops. Just requested an appointment today. I won’t go to anyone else in Davis.

I wouldn’t take my car to anyone else. He’s not the cheapest shop around, but as a service-​provider myself (veterinarian), I strongly believe that «you get what you pay for.» I drive my car long distances, so I want to feel secure knowing my 18-​year old Acura isn’t going to leave me stranded somewhere. Shane’s professional and competent service doesn’t leave a doubt in my mind. I even take my car to him for every oil change because I know it will be done right without him recommending a bunch of unnecessary services. When ever I’ve gone to Jiffy Lube, they recommend a bunch of shit that my car doesn’t really need and refused to prioritize for my budget. Shane never does that. He explains what needs to be done now, what should be done soon, and what could be done to be proactive, but not necessary. For example, when he load-​tested my battery the other day he told me that it has about four more months useful life left. He didn’t push the sale to replace it, leaving it up to me whether I’d rather let it die to get my money’s worth or replace it sooner.
I have been going to him since I moved to Davis in 2006 (same car). That first time I called, I had a light pop up on the dashboard. He quoted me $ 50 diagnostic fee, which seemed totally fair for his time. It ended up being no big deal, so he reset the computer in my car and didn’t charge me anything because it took him like five minutes. What a nice guy! When something more serious happened later, he was straight-​forward, honest and timely. He even gave me the option to install a salvaged part in order to save me $ 800; and then after three hours of labor, the part didn’t work! He ordered the Honda new part and re-​did the work at no extra labor cost (just the difference on the part), which was helpful to a starving vet student (me).
When I met my husband in 2009, I knew we were meant to be when he informed me that he also used Shane for all his auto repairs, and had since 2006 also. Our scientific minds appreciate his logical and straightforward approach. Always a good sign when two people who like each other also independently like the same service provider!
As far as the person who said he was a rip on the Smog-​check repairs, I have to admit it wouldn’t have occurred to me to take my car to him for smogging repairs. That is sort of a specialized issue and I would have gone straight to a smog-​repair shop that does them every day all day. Seems like they’d be better prepared to assess the issue and recommend the most efficient repair. As far as general auto repair goes, I wouldn’t trust anyone in Davis but Shane.

I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Shane keeps my high mileage Honda running. He is very patient, often explaining things first to me, then to my partner [all over again].
My partner is a mechanic with a different fulltime job now… no time to work on the car. Cynical me, I have had my partner vet what Shane says… just to be sure. Each time, he has done so, he agrees ‘Shane is right, it’s the way to go’. By now, I know we’ve found an honest man and a good shop. Once, Shane diagnosed my car, told me what was wrong, and we decided to do the work ourselves, instead of at DAW. In this situation, Shane even continued to help us – «don’t forget to change the thermostat while you’re doing it… they tend to fail at this mileage».
Shane has been trustworthy, knowledgeable, and has always gotten me in the door when I needed it. I’ve been to several places in Davis and just didn’t get the same service that I get at DAW. It is a nice family-​run shop. From oil changes and tires to catastrophic failures, I’d go to Davis Auto Works.

Scammers. Took my car here after failed smog test. Quoted me over $ 1000 for the repair to pass the smog test. Tried to sell it like they genuinely cared and wanted to help (still had to pay $ 120 for them to look at it). Thought it was a bit much so took to another shop just to get a second opinion. Quoted $ 120, total. Well, guess which one I decided to get my car serviced at. Outcome: passed the smog test.
$ 120 to just look at + ~$ 900 to work on OR $ 120 to look at and fix. Hmm… tough one.
Don’t go to these guys unless you’re willing to be scammed.

It’s good to know that you can trust someone to not give you the run around and instead give you honest advice and service.
Shane and his crew have been nothing but good to me and my car, whether it’s been for an annual high-​milage checkup or a repair on the electrical. Each time, Shane has taken the time to fully explain what the job will require, why it requires it, and how much he estimates it to be. On a recent repair, he even printed up the electrical schematics and guided me through exactly what was wrong with my car and how he could get it fixed.
I understand that quotes can fluctuate, and I like that he makes sure to call at least once during the repair/​work to check in and give me updates on cost.
I see no reason to go anywhere else. Why pay more at the dealer and get endless up-​sales of unnecessary and expensive work? Go to Davis Auto Works.

Having problems with your car? Stop reading this review and drive over to Davis Auto Works. It is, hands down, the best auto repair shop in the Sac, Davis, Woodland area. I’ve been to dealers and third party shops, and this one beats them all by a mile.
After I noticed my steering wheel column was shaking when braking at high speeds, I dropped by the shop to get a quote for the repair work. I could only see one employee and he was working away on a ford explorer. I tried to get his attention, but he was working diligently and probably couldn’t hear my calls.
So I left and called their phone as I was leaving. Dennis picked up immediately and quoted me at an affordable rate I would expect from a good friend. I dropped off the car and it was ready in less than 2 hours. When I stopped by the office to pick up the keys, Dennis and his son were talking to another customer about an old vehicle she brought in for maintenance. Both of the employees were warm and pleasant and the encounter looked more like a conversation between three old friends than one you normally see between businesses and their customers.
I will be taking my car back here for any future needs I have.

I came here to have my car smogged, it took me about thirty minutes and with a coupon it was around $ 52 which saved me about $ 20 from the original price, not bad!

This owner is a con man who will sneak the price up on you, not do work he said he performed, and return your car with new problems it never had then deny any responsibility or the existence of the problem. Run.for.the.hills and find another mechanic.

Call Shane, the owner, and he will take care of you! He is trustworthy and knows his stuff!
I have been looking for a second car to buy. something a little nicer than what I currently have. So I went on Craigslist and found a really nice newer used car for a good price. the car was located in Davis and I found Shane at Davis Auto Works. Shane gave me really good insight on the car, where it’s been, and if it was a really good deal or a dud. Needless to say, it was like having a credit report on the car. I didn’t buy the car but I am glad I didn’t thanks to Shane. If you need a second opinion or need your car fixed, go to Davis Auto Works! I’m sooo glad I did!

Shane, the owner of the shop, did an excellent job fixing my car. He is very knowledgeable and does a fair job diagnosing the problem. The diagnosis is $ 80. In addition, the service is quick as I receive my car within 1 – 2 business days.
I went to Davis Auto Works twice. The first time was to repair a broken gas pump. When I picked up my car, he told me that I had an exhaust leak. I decided to bring my car back for round two. Shane diagnosed the leak with the pipes broken in the front of the car. It would have cost me $ 300 to replace it with new parts. Shane could have ordered the new parts, but he told me that it would be cheaper to weld the pipes together. I went with the welding, and my car works perfectly fine.
I highly recommend going to Davis Auto Works! You do have to travel to this shop as it is located further down Olive Road.
