KM Test Only Center

The surly technician broke the release lever on my steering wheel and didn’t tell me what happened until I went back and confronted him. Who breaks a car and then lets the customer drive away? Irresponsible at best.
I would give them zero stars if I could. The guy who used to work there two years ago last time I came here was nice. Won’t be going back again, plenty of other smog check stations around.

I was actually in a very good mood when I came here to get my smog check. There was one car in front of me so I parked in front of the building thinking I’ll move my car later and wait in the car while he is working on the other car. I walked in, saw the paperwork on a clip board, and proceeded to fill it out. The one tech came up to me and said, you need to move your car and I said, sure that’s fine. I said when you’re done, I’ll be in my car can you come get me? He said that is unacceptable, I don’t do business like that. The client that was in the lobby gave me the look like I can’t believe he just said that. I gave her the same look back. Wow!
What is unacceptable sir? You could’ve told me in a nice way, what you preferred. I could’ve waited in the lobby on your 40 year old couch (I have nothing against the couch). I would’ve been happy to! A simple greeting when you saw me or maybe even a smile would’ve been nice. It pays to be nice to people! Don’t be such a Scrooge especially if you are running a business.
If life is that bad, maybe it’s time for you to retire because obviously you are not happy and you don’t need to infect people with that bad aura and attitude. Take a class on being nice to people you grumpy old man!

Although my vehicle passed the smog test, the personalities of the technicians need to be checked. I asked several questions only to be answered by grunt sounds.
This day an age, it PAYS to be friendly.

So fast and friendly! I showed up at about 6:30pm; thankfully they were open later than most stations. I was in and out in about 10 minutes. It was a great price, and the service couldn’t have been better. I will go back!

Was so disappointed!!! First off the tech was dressed like a slob, clapping hands to have me come to bay, instead of walk to May car and saying ready. Didn’t say good morning acted like I was doing him a favor. Jumped in car and said would smog because engine light was on. I told him it was transmitting problem and would it pass he said no. Okay I don’t want you to smog. Got out of car and gave back my renewal paperwork. Not a thank you or anything. I asked if he was having a bad morning he said no. I told hi I think he was rude and he started to raise his voice and me and call me all kinds of cuss words. So much for good customer service. Do not take your car to this site.

Fantastic. I wish I could remember the guys name. He was the Latin guy. Got me in right away. Even gave me my AAA discount when I didn’t show him my card or ask. It was quick and he even gave me some great advice. He said he’s seen alot of people having rats chew thru their lines, he said he may have seen some evidence and told me to get Bounce sheets and tie a few to different cables (which he showed me) and it would keep them away. He also reminded me that I could go right there to AAA to take my registration. Big couched that are comfy (nothing girly to read) but mags there. 711 next door, the cvs and Vons center and well as new Starbucks to go hang out at. No doubt I’d be back.

Super friendly owner, and super fast service. The gentleman who helped me out was very professional, said a smog would take 10 mins, and sure enough it did. There was no line, no wait — I was out faster than the DMV would ever be on an appointment. The location is super easy to find, right off the freeway, and the owner gave me a AAA discount: D thank you insurance! That or my 10-​month old who was with me was just so darn cute!

Passed. Thanks to fellow Unilocaler David P. I got a $ 10 off coupon. Original quote is $ 59 out the door with certificate and everything. So I left paying $ 49 for my 2004 Honda Pilot over 200k. Jim finished the check in less than 15 mins. He was very friendly and definitely the most real person I’ve met thus far. He even let me keep my sleeping baby in the car while he did the check. Needless to say, this is the place to go if you’re in the area.

Disappointing. Went here a few months back. Based on Unilocal reviews I chose this place but my experience was less than 5 stars. Went in on my lunch hour and was told they could not see me. Even though there was only one car in front of me. They wanted me to come back 3 hours later or another day. I cant understand a business not providing their services advertised during normal business hours.
My time is very valuable and any business that doesn’t respect that loses me as a customer.

Quick and easy. At the time, they were only able to do «newer» cars (2000 and newer), so no problem here. The guy was cool and friendly, and everything was submitted to the DMV electronically right on the spot.

Great service, quick and efficient but FYI they can’t test all vehicles so recommended somewhere else for my Aston Martin which also worked out great.

I came in the day before my registration was due. There was one car in front of us. he told me 15 – 20 minutes and that was accurate. We were out of there within half an hour and got a $ 10 discount for Auto Club members. Auto Club is in the adjacent shopping center so we went directly there and went home with the registration tags, the entire process took less than an hour. Wow… Avoid this place like the plague. I have now tried, twice to use their service. First time their dyno was broken, but I have a 4 wheel drive so it made no difference. Two years later, I showed up at 8 am since they open at 8, finally left at 8:30 when nobody had showed up and tie other cars were also waiting. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Highly recommended. Jim is a regular at my place of business and I thought of no one else to go to when I received my notice requiring smog. He’ll let you in on the tests he runs on your vehicle, he’ll make suggestions, and he’s an honest guy so I found no need to worry about anything whilst there. If you stick around he’ll tell you some good stories!
Also, don’t forget to show your AAA card for a discount.

They do not answer their phone or take appointments. I drove 20 minutes and showed up at 4:20pm and was verbally abused! I can not remember when I have been treated so disrespectfully. I mentioned it to a friend and he too had the same experience.

Walked… well drove in and he told me it would take 15 min. When I came back the smog check was done. He had looked under the hood and found a rat must have taken residence in there. He showed me some paw prints and the wires it started chewing on… and he suggested to put dryer sheets under the hood or chewing tobacco and the smell would keep the rats out. Hope it works!
All on all, great service, nice guy and uncomplicated! I highly recommend that place for a smog check!!!

One room, one man garage, dedicated solely to $ 49 (print the $ 10 off coupon from company website) SMOG checks.
Location: adjacent to the gas station on Del Mar Heights Rd and Mango, next to 7 – 11. The best way to get there is to head West on Del Mar Heights Rd from the 5, hang a right on Mango Dr (light), right in the second drive way.
Jim is the epitome of the average working Joe — straight shooter, tell it like it is, and a master of his trade. Walk up to the garage, fill out a sheet of paper, BRING YOUR DMV REGISTRATION RENEWAL NOTICE, hand over the keys and the check is done in under 20 minutes. It would be done sooner if the DMV would process the paper work as fast as it takes Jim to administer the test; but that’s out of our hands.
A quick, no nonsense SMOG check and $ 10 off coupon aren’t even the best part of this place. There’s seating! And not just any seats… 2 couches that look like they were salvaged from the front of someone’s lawn. You know, the several shades of brown, with flower print, and dark wood lining. They sit on either side of the garage. Awesome touch… seriously.
If lounging in re-​purposed furniture isn’t your thing, fear not! There is a 7 – 11 next door… go get yourself that cherry Slurpee you earned for doing your California duty and getting your car SMOG checked before the renewal is late.

I was referred to KM via phone by a nice lady at Sorrento Valley Automotive, who said that they didn’t do smog checks even though their Unilocal page has them listed as so.
I was skeptical when I first called KM because the man who answered the phone was a bit gruff. He told me there were not appointments and checks were done on a «first come, first served» basis and that the cost was $ 59.
He seemed a little annoyed when I asked if that was the base cost or total including DMV filing and such, but assured me that it was the total. It sounded a bit high but it was conveniently located near my work and it was nearing my lunch hour. I found a $ 10 off coupon online and decided to go for it.
When I arrived at the shop, which was on the NE corner of Del Mar Heights & Mango, I was helped immediately. Although Jim grumbled at me for not having my DMV renewal form (whoops), he looked up my info on his computer and went right to work. While he was performing the check, I noticed a large doggie bed and blanket, chew toys, a medium link chain, and a fan. I assumed the dog was a medium or large breed with long or thick hair.
After Jim was done and doing my paperwork 15 minutes later, he was much more personable and told me a funny story about another customer with a Miata. I asked where the dog was and found out «big grumpy Jim» had a little chihuahua named Chico LOL!
I was out the door within 20 minutes with a smile on my face :)
