We came here on a Saturday morning with friends for breakfast. I’ve been to several different locations over the years and its always just okay. I was excited to come here again as it had been awhile. But it’s still the same… Nothing special. The food is good but can definitely be better… especially for the price. The one good thing is that the portion sizes are pretty big. But the food just doesn’t have that fresh taste to it. I have been to so many other brunch spots around San Diego who use fresh local sustainable ingredients and they charge much less for their entrees. The service can tend to be a bit slow and forgetful but they are always very personable and friendly. With all of the other amazing breakfast options in our area I don’t think we will be back anytime soon. But it is a decent place for a bite to eat if you’re really hungry.

Came here after Snooze was too crowded and we weren’t disappointed. It was Memorial Day weekend so they were offering bottles of champagne for $ 10, lolol. My friend ordered«the Mom» omelette with a side of sausage and I got chicken fried steak with a side of Hula french toast. Our server was super accommodating and let me substitute the side of regular French toast with the Hula variety. *MENUHACK*: the full order of Hula French toast is about $ 13 and comes with 3 pieces… my side came with 2 pieces for about $ 5. Woot! Turns out the Hula French toast wasn’t anything mindblowing but it was definitely good. I prefer my french toast more soft on the inside. My chicken fried steak was solid but again nothing mindblowing. Breakfast comes with a huge biscuit + potatoes and eggs cooked your way. tl;dr: A huge amount of above solid breakfast food, friendly service, and very reasonable prices.(Perfect for the morning after a long night in PB.)

I went here for the first time this morning as I was craving some breakfast verses the typical coffee and croissant from Starbucks. Friendly service to begin with from staff and the ordering process was not difficult however they have so many great breakfast options it was hard to just choose one thing off the menu(I’m tiny so I kept the ordering as little as possible). I ordered eggs over easy and some fruit salad to go. Presentation was on point and of course the taste was right on point(thank you). Fast service and can I mention the eye candy in the establishment :).

Huge portions. Had to ask for silverware. Decent taste. Love the mimosa flight. I had to share the flight.

They are located in the same strip mall as Vons, Jersey Mikes, Starbucks, and Jack in the Box. On weekends, there’s coffee and water while you wait to be seated. The host was incredibly friendly. We sat outside in their covered patio. The coffee wasn’t good as it was too strong and bitter. At least it’s free re fills. Half n Half was already on the table — not necessarily a good thing as they were warm from sitting under the ceiling heat lamp. We ordered: Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs: — Fun note: I’ve ordered this chicken fried steak from The Broken Yolk Café at THREE different locations now. I haven’t liked the CFS at the Pacific Beach and Carmel Mountain location but thought it might be worth another try at this brand new location in Del Mar. Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak had a thick batter that I didn’t like. The sausage gravy tasted processed. Maybe they make the gravy in house but something tasted off about it. BUT. The *best* part of this dish was the lightly scrambled eggs. Just perfection. I opted for the biscuit. It had a cake-y consistency to it. I like flakier biscuits but that’s my preference. Maybe I should have tried this biscuit with a jam or marmalade. French Toast with Bacon: — I’m not sure how friend ordered this as I thought he was charged an additional ‘make it a combo’ fee on the bill. Maybe because he added fruit? The french toast was nicely griddled but was a tad dry. The bacon was crispy. Service was nice but slow towards the end of our breakfast as the restaurant was packed by the time we were finishing. We thought breakfast was just ok. We both prefer Original Pancake House(in Poway). I think I’d come back to try non-breakfast items here at The Broken Yolk Café. It’s a clean and bright location that has plenty of parking. The patio is dog friendly so that’s a plus.

I thought the place was nice for breakfast. The atmosphere is kind of cold and the food portions are huge. Considering it was my first time here maybe my expectations were high. Next time when I fly into San Diego I’ll write a new review.

I don’t want to hate on this place… but I need to be honest… I don’t see myself coming back here. I just don’t see the point at all. well… maybe i’ll come for Happy Hour cocktails and give the bar a chance. my son and I were having a brunch date. We were on our way to Prep Kitchen, but decided to stop here since we had never tried it. we both ordered lunch items… he ordered the BBQ western type burger and I order a Reuben. He said the burger needed more sauce and the meat didn’t have much flavor. My Reuben had barely any meat in it at all… i would eat about 3 bites and the rest of the sandwich was only Sauerkraut… but the bread was nice and crispy. i barely ate half… took the rest home. My husband saw the sandwich and laughed at me for wasting my money on it. I would also like to see a side salad as an option instead of fries or rings… fruit was an option(for an additional charge)…they would be ahead of the game if they offered a side salad… lettuce is inexpensive and easy. .and in this neighborhood most people would probably stick with that. The good… –10% off with Unilocal check in –nice décor –they have a bar –friendly staff –got a table fairly quickly –it seems that have coffee while you are waiting for a table… but there were no cups. oh wait.this should probably go in «the bad» section. i’l copy it there –they are kid friendly The bad… –it seems that have coffee while you are waiting for a table… but there were no cups. oh wait.this should probably go in «the bad» section. i’l copy it there –the food really wasn’t good… it was just edible… no taste –our poor server was spread so ridiculously thin… the wait to get water, to get our check to get a box, to get anything was so long! he was running around from one end to the other –they sat my child and i at a high top in the bar… who does that? my fault, i should have said something –while friendly. the staff really wasn’t up par, if you walk by your table multiple times and see people just sitting there, not eating food and looking upset… maybe you should ask if they need anything. –my son said the toilet wouldn’t flush… i’ll trust it… i didn’t use the facilities. –prices are comparable to much better places in the area. if you have no taste buds… and didn’t realize that there are better places to eat then this is the place for you. if you are hung over and just need something to put in your belly… then this is the place for you if you want good food and good service… this is not the place for you. sorry guys… not trying to be mean… i really aim to be a positive person, but I just can’t seem to find enough positive to be nice. I even waited 4 days to write this review, because I make it a point to never write a review while i’m upset. I wait to cool down and think about it.

This property has turned over several times due to unsuccessful restaurants. Now it exists as a huge new success, the new Broken Yolk, not to be compared w/any other Yoke location. This resturant plan offers an excellent menu, attentive service, and smart, fresh décor. The locals must be thrilled — at last, a favorite spot they can depend on. Excellent for families and friends w/dogs. Great coffee.

I really enjoyed my brunch here. There is plenty of seating, so you can come with a group large or small. There is also outdoor seating with a ton of space. The menu is huge. The coffee is strong and the portion sizes are big. I tried the moms veggie omelette and it was yum. Service overall is very attentive here. We found a hair in our burrito and they kindly apologized, gave us a new one, and then still charged us for it(no extra charge for the men’s black hair topping). Definitely stop by for breakfast if you’re in the area.

A chain resturant serving great breakfasts. On a recent trip to Del Mar we ate here twice for breakfast — the second time because we couldn’t get over how good the first experience was. I had a Mexican breakfast the first time and a bacon avocado eggs benedict the second — both were fresh, hot, and delicious. The waitstaff is genuinely friendly. If I had the cash, I’d franchise this place back east.

Good spot for breakfast. Good service, fresh squeezed orange juice. I ordered the French toast which was cooked perfectly and came with actual fresh fruit like strawberries and blue berries. It seems newer inside and very modern décor.

A San Diego staple amongst the breakfast scene has come along to Del Mar. Situated in the outdoor shopping promenade of the Del Mar Heights center, this breakfast establishment is a welcome spot for this neighborhood. If you’ve never been, the portions are large, hearty, and done just right. The menu has a wide variety of signature breakfast entrees to the standard buttermilk, pancakes, eggs and bacon. We like their omelettes and chicken fried steak. Wait times can get long on the weekends, so come early or with some patience.

The food here is good but nothing special. All of the portions are really big which doesn’t really float my boat because I eat like a bird. I got the southwest chicken wrap today which was really light and flavorful. Also — there champagne/mimosa flight is a great deal if you are in to putting fruit in your hooch.

Ate brunch here. Overpriced Denny’s diner quality food. The service was ok. That’s where the positives end. The food was disappointing: — The side beans tasted like flavorless canned beans. Not sure what the point of decorating them with two chips was. — The side«biscuits» were a single glob of baked flour-much worse than pre-made pillsbury biscuits. — Coffee was watered down and made me miss Starbucks. — Some of the food items were missing advertised ingredients. The California Breakfast Burrito didn’t come with any avocado and had only a few specks of shredded cheese. — The hash browns were undercooked and tasted like boiled potato. The table next to us seemed just as disappointed. This places needs better quality ingredients and a better cook.

We originally went to Snooze but there was a village of people waiting outside as always. Since we were pressed on time, we decided to give this a try. There was a 10 minute wait for a table at the Broken Yolk but no wait at the bar so we chose the latter. Breakfast here was pretty on-point. I got the mom omelet which sausage. It came with fresh ingredients, fresh fruit, and a delicious fluffy biscuit. Everything was tasty. Service was great too! I can’t wait to come again and try another item.

They were able to accommodate a group of 8 pretty quickly on a Saturday morning, which was definitely a great start. The menu is pretty extensive with a range of different styles of egg Benedicts, omelettes, pancakes, and other more lunchy items. I opted for the create your own omelette, which came with hash browns and toast too. The hash browns were really good, but everything else was just ok, nothing special. They do have some vegetarian options, but most of the things on the menu seemed to have meat in them. My friend got the golden state egg Benedict and said it tasted a little artificial and it was definitely the smallest plate, unlike the picture in menu. He got fruit on the side which was solid, but again nothing special.

I was craving some pigs in a blanket so stopped in the Yolk for some. They did not have any on the menu but the girl working the bar area checked with the kitchen to see if they could make some and they said sure thing. However, they did not make them the traditional way, by rolling breakfast pancakes with breakfast sausage links inside, them topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Instead, the chopped up the sausage links and put them straight into the batter and came served with a side of maple syrup but no powdered sugar. The short stack only came with two pancakes and cost $ 7.45, which I felt was a little steep for only two, and the sausage they put inside cost an additional $ 3.45. The pancakes were good and that fluffy moist texture, but without that nice touch of crispiness the ends some times have. Although I thought they should of put more, the breakfast links were savory and tasted good. Like that they served the maple syrup at room temperature. In the end, the pancakes were a-okay. My server, Crystal I believe her name was, was very down to earth and friendly. She made everyone feel welcomed and provided great service for everyone.

This was the first Broken Yolk I have been to and I am so glad it was because it was perfect. The place has an open floor plan with ceiling high windows that made the place seem very bright and neat. We got sat right away when we arrived around 9:30am on a Sunday morning. My Southwestern Chicken Wrap was delicious. The chicken was grilled and charred perfectly, with the rest of the wrap containing crunchy lettuce, black beans, tomatoes, avocado, corn, etc. Everything you expect out of a tex-mex breakfast. My OJ was freshly squeezed too, there were pulp in there. I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast, thank you Broken Yolk.

I love this new Broken Yolk location. The décor is very modern and spacious and gives off a more refined vibe(I guess because it’s in Del Mar). I’ve been to the one in PB and while I like that one too, that one has a more homey diner vibe and this one has a more classy brunch feel. My bf and I arrived around noon and was seated immediately. There were ample tables though the place seemed still busy and buzzing with people. I have a real weakness for breakfast food and was excited to eat. I couldn’t decide whether to go sweet or savory so I made my bf order savory while I ordered sweet so that we could split. The bf ordered the No Name Omelet(yes, that’s its actual name) which had bacon, mushrooms, avocado, and tomatoes with a side of hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were REALLY crunchy which I enjoyed. I also am not a huge fan of crunchy bacon bits, but it worked for this omlette. The bf also ordered a side of blueberry muffin, which I took a bite of to try and it was good, but nothing too special. I ordered the Tiki Toast which was everything I could have wished a sweet breakfast meal could be. It’s hawaiian bread french toast with shredded coconut, strawberries, blueberries, and caramel. I also asked for some whipped cream on the side which came via gravy boat and some sausage links because breakfast sausage is one of my favorite foods and I never wake up early enough to eat it as often I would like. At first I was afraid this dish would be too sweet, but it was actually quite perfect. What I really like about this Broken Yolk is that the dishes are also the perfect serving size. I finished everything off feeling perfectly stuffed, but not sick(which can sometimes happen because I’m a total glutton). Regarding service, our water was consistently filled which is always great. That said, several different waiters came by to check on us so it was a bit confusing who to call out to when we needed something. But once we did get someone’s attention, the service was prompt and friendly. I think the multiple waiter thing might be worked out once the restaurant is open longer though. I would definitely come back again.
