Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream

Great location. Right next to the movie theater so you can have ice cream before the movies. great place to go on a date and swing to the movies. Cute atmosphere with all these love wired chairs and mini round tables.
As soon as we walked in, it was quite hot in here. They had ceiling fans running but all I could feel was hot air.
Ice cream is $.67 per oz. idk if that’s how most places do it. But it was kind of weird. A 2 oz was the size of a golf ball. And a 4 oz a size of tennis ball. Cones are a separate charge. So if you want a decent size ice cream cone. I think that would run almost $ 5.
We got the mini banana split with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The banana really helped. But the ice cream itself was not of completely smooth texture. Unless it was the fudge that was grainy. The ice cream melted extremely fast cause of the hot air and ceiling fans going.
Whip cream looked like it came from store bought cans. Not thick and homemade. Not the real deal. And it was bland too.
They had a lot of flavors. But the popular ones were out or only had a couple of oz left in the bucket.
Overall, this is still a cute place to go to if you and your friend/​date have no other plans.

Love this location. It’s very 1950’s. Love taking the kids here for a special treat. The flavors change and they have an old fashioned soda fountain!

Great ice cream that they make themselves. Tons of flavors to choose from and most are really good. The store is really fun, like an old time ice cream shop. The staff is really friendly and let you try any flavors before you commit to one. Can be really busy during peak times. The kids love going here and ask to go every time we go near. Would be 5 stars but little expensive. This is our favorite outing for kids treats.

The décor inside is very old fashioned and cute. You feel a bit like you’re stepping into the past when you enter! The selection of ice cream is very diverse, and they have some pretty decent sandwiches, and root beer as well. The prices are not bad, and it’s the perfect place to go after seeing a movie across the street!

Really fantastic place! Beware the crowds on nights and weekends though, it can be really hectic in here. Also, if you order for «here» you get glass cups, if you order «to go» you get styrofoam. If you don’t see the flavor you want out in the front, it’s probably in the back but beware, when I went in the second time and ordered After Dinner Mint from the back it came out half melted and very small in scoop size. The picture shown was my first time and it was PERFECTION! The only reason for not having another star is the fact that the brunette that seems to be in charge, isn’t very polite and chews gum obnoxiously while serving people. That’s unhygienic and a bit worrisome. Other than that, pretty good place! Just not the best staff.

The first time we came here we split the sundae of the month which has blue cake, vanilla ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream. It was so delicious we considered getting a second.
The second time we went here we got a cup of black cherry ice cream and a cup of turtle torture. Both were amazing, I’d highly recommend both. The cherry has a lighter taste while the turtle torture is surprisingly rich.

Horrible! You pay way too much for so little ice cream. I ordered a two scoop Sunday with two different flavors and they didn’t even do that right. They ate super small scoops and they don’t even add the toppings correctly. How do you mess up a Sunday seriously?

Great dinner earlier with friends and family. Then off to Beth Marie’s for ice cream desert. Wow — great ice cream selections had by all and all enjoyed. Want some good ice cream — this is the place for home made ice cream of many flavors.

Not sure if I am in heaven or hell. The ice cream is so delicious that you feel like it’s heaven. But then you realize that the number of calories you have just consumed means you are really in hell and have to work really hard to get away.

Beth Marie’s is an ice cream shoppe and soda fountain with an old-​timey vibe serving up some good house-​made ice cream. As far as the list of in-​house frozen dessert options goes, the menu is huge – various media sources number the flavors everywhere from 64 to 100±-and the fount of much ordering indecision. I was tempted to spend the time taste-​testing everything in the freezer case, but for my initial visit, I stuck to trying two: Beth Marie’s Mudders Milk (?) and the Almond Joy… both of which loaded with sweet treats. I eventually went with my favorite, Almond Joy, a creamy concoction packed full of shredded coconut. I was even thrilled to learn that they offered additional toppings, so a ladle-​full of homemade hot fudge sauce went over my choice. If I had a complaint it would be that my ice cream didn’t taste as rich as other premium ice creams, perhaps due to a lesser butterfat content?
While they didn’t offer to weigh my ice cream this time, Beth Marie’s serving size illustrations were pretty clear: a 4oz scoop is the size of a tennis ball, while 2oz is a golfball-​sized serving… pretty handy reference. Cone or cup, they charge 59 cents per ounce… and you can even get a sampler boat of every flavor you’re interested in trying – same price per ounce.
The menu isn’t just restricted to frozen desserts or variations thereof (floats, milkshakes, etc); they also have a functioning soda fountain and offer sandwiches, cakes and pies. The dining space at this location is certainly big enough to host several large groups, if the intent is to grab a meal with your dessert.
Beth Marie’s popularity is such that many businesses carry their brand of ice cream. So even if you can’t make it to this location or the Denton courthouse location, you can give Beth Marie’s a try at a participating Central Market.
However, the Unicorn Lake location is certainly worth a visit, given the nice area (including the water fountain) and the nearby Cinemark theater.

I love coming here most because of the multitudes of flavors. The atmosphere is very welcoming, with many customers well into the late evening. Also the servers are helpful, give suggestions for recommended flavors and let you taste as you like.

My high school class posted an article about old ice cream stores so my wife and I headed out this morning in 22 degree temperature to see what we could find. Went o Denton Texas where I had heard about a neat place opposite the court house. Found it — Beth Marie’s. Entered the front door and there was a sign, $ 2.00 lunch specials. We had eaten lunch so we had to pass. Went straight to the ice cream counter and there were more than 30 flavors. Finally decided on the fresh peach and it was delicious. All the ice cream is made on site. The staff is friendly and the management took the time to chat with us. Great day and great ice cream. We will go back for the $ 2.00 lunch special and some more ice cream.

Last time I went the lady serving the ice cream didn’t give me my order she started serving the people behind me. I finally got her attention and then got my ice cream. Rude.

Ice cream flavours are unique but I felt pre diabetic after eating my 3 layers of evil. Too rich for my blood & I think this is a place I could only frequent when I need a pick-​me-​up treat after a really really tough day.

Ordered my favourite flavours (rocky road, some variation of coffee, and mint chocolate chip) and they made me forget my traumatic day.
Will probably visit again but not for a long time.

Let me start of by saying… you can choose the size of your scoop! They weigh it, how awesome is that? You can actually get the amount you prefer rather than overpaying for something you won’t eat… or shouldn’t eat for that matter. HA!
I’m not an ice cream fan. Sorry guys. Another unfortunate soul reppin’ that lactose intolerant gene. But when I’m feeling especially persuadable while out with friends before/​after a movie this is the place to come. They have a cinnamon toast crunch flavor??? Whaaaaat! It’s good. Reeeeaaaallllly good. And you can get a tiny «junior scoop» that is the perfect size if you want tiny tastes of flavors. You can line them all up in a chilled sundae dish. Cute!
Even coming up on winter you should come here, don’t hesitate just do it. They have a location on the Denton square too. No excuses!
Next time I’ll try the root beer float, my guilty pleasure.

Beth Marie’s in a nut shell is AMAZING. I love how many choices you have and it’s not too overpriced either. There isn’t much I can say about it other than the staff are super friendly and you won’t be disappointed!

My boyfriend and I always share the Lover’s Sundae which is 3 ice cream flavors with 2 toppings of your choice. It’s the best thing on the menu that’s easy to share plus I can have my favorite flavors and so can he. The place is a little small but I guess that adds to the Denton charm. Best ice cream around, no challenge.

Best ice cream in the metroplex. With flavors like french toast, cappuccino chip, and all your old time favorites, how can you go wrong. Ice cream is made on site. Fresh made waffle cones are a plus.

It’s not often when anyone wants to write a second review on a place. Usually when you’ve had a bad one, or a really good one, that’s enough. In this case I’ve written a review on the Denton Square location, but not this one. With the experience I had last Sunday, I wanted to share some more about Beth Marie’s. Besides, you already know that they have great ice cream.
By the stars above this was a great visit. I held my daughter’s fourth birthday party with ice cream cake and balloons and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We came in and they let us set up wherever, and even had a helium tank and ribbons to get the ballons all filled, and even got out a ladder to track down a few errant floaters.
They had a large knife to cut the cake (chocolate cake with cookies and cream ice cream) and the room to open presents. It helped that on a Sunday afternoon this shop isn’t extremely busy, unlike the Square shop. So that is why I chose the location.
I found out that besides just the ice cream, the cake, frosting and icing are all done in-​house. That is really good.
Overall a great time and I will continue to support the shop.
