Dishonest selling practice, over promising, potential scammers.
In short: Stay away from them! Be aware!
DON’T do business with them!
I will stop short of calling them thieves, until Police investigation completes.
Found Mr. David Adams (from Adams Heating Air Plumbing and Restoration) middle age men on Craigslist selling a «120K BTU almost new Lennox Furnace». After inspecting the furnace which appeared much older than stated and less efficient, I declined to purchase it.
Since I was looking for a second furnace for my specific application, conversation led into installing an existing furnace that I already owned, and installing new duct work throughout the house. A price quote of $ 1500.00 for parts and $ 700.00 for labor was quoted, and a contract was signed on October 15, 2015.
I thought the $ 1500.00 in parts was a bit high, but the Labor was a bit low, so it balanced out. I paid him $ 1300.00 so that he could buy the parts.
First mistake.
I gave him my brand new Visa card number, and he charged $ 1300.00 immediately.
Two days later, on Saturday he showed up 6 hours late with his niece Brandy. He had texted me earlier stating that he was running behind on another job. He stated that he would still come over anyway, «since he always keeps his word». He finally showed up and brought a hand full of new and used materials, certainly not $ 1500.00, maybe $ 300.00 worth.
Not much work was done on that day, as he wanted to do more planning, and make a more detailed material list. Then he left to return on the next day.
Next day (Sunday, Oct 18), he arrived with a worker to build the platform for the furnace made of wood, which certainly is not fire coded. Four hours later, two more people arrived (the Duct workers: Frank and «Guy»), which were going to stay as long as needed to complete the job. Mr. Adams left to get more parts.
They stayed until mid night (about 6 hour’s total) planning. Very little work was actually done. Guy made a mess on my hardwood floors while cutting a couple crocked vents above the doors. I had to warn him also that he was trying to cut through a bearing wall Header!!!
Short before they left, I got a call from Mr. Adams, saying the work was going to be more involved than originally planned, and the labor was going to cost a lot more. Everything I had given him was about only a third of the job, (not what was agreed on the contract) and that he needed more money.
I stated that very little was done and that we needed to talk in person. But I agreed to advance him $ 700.00 to cover the extra labor cost.
Second mistake.
He agreed, and said that he was going to bring the rest of the material in the following day (Monday, Oct 19). However he never showed up. I called him and left several messages, but they went answered. Finally at 11:15 PM that night, I got a text message from him stating that he had to wait 3 days before he could purchase the extra materials, because the bank would not release the money until then. I found very strange, but I called the Bank and verified the account balance, everything was fine.
I tried to get the transaction cancelled right there and then, but the Bank informed that since the transaction had already gone through, I had to deal with the merchant directly.
I haven’t heard from Mr. Adams him ever since. While looking for my copy of the Contract (left on the counter), it somehow disappeared.
Two days later I noticed on my mobile App, two more transaction from Home Depot, one in Atlanta and the other in Thornton Colorado, for $ 1.00 and $ 1300.00 respectively, on the brand new Credit Card.
Again, the only person I had given my number to was Mr. Adams and his Niece Brandy from (Heating Air Plumbing and Restoration). I found very odd and coincidental. Needless to say, I called the bank and cancelled the card. The Bank and the Police are investigating the Fraud.
I also file a complaint with the BBB, only to find another coincidence. Someone was complaining about MR Adams, which had sold him the same Furnace he was trying to sell me, and it turned out to be defective. No resolution was posted.
