Tootsies the Nail Shoppe

Overall, disappointed with experience and business practices (considering its popular location and $$):
— cuticle cutters were dull and not sitting in alcohol (major flag if taking clients often)
— no place to dry nails (ie dryers) to help expedite the process
— no hand cream applied
I am writing on behalf of my mother who wanted to treat herself to a manicure while she was in town over the holiday. I’ve been here before and had an OK experience, which was why I sent her there in the first place.
She had the «express manicure». Wish I could say I would back, but the 3 things above are pretty basic no nail salon should fail.

I have been going to them since I moved to The Highlands in May, but I won’t be a loyal customer anymore.
1. The front desk person, as other people have noted, is a bit rude. She was rude when I walked in last time, then caught herself when I got an attitude back.
2. They advertised gelish pedicures, but the technician acted like she didn’t want to do it when I walked in. «Are you sure you want to do this?» Then, she noted her annoyance with it again when she did my pedi.
3. My gelish polish started chipping after only a few days. I paid way too much money for that.
In short, if they’re going to charge that much, then they need to back it up with good customer service and good service overall.

This salon is right around the corner from me and I’ve been hesitant to try it based on the poor reviews and high prices. On a lazy Sunday morning, I decided to give it a try anyway and went in for a gel mani before noon. The salon was empty and three nail techs were available. I was informed that they couldn’t fit me in for four hours! Yikes! I’ve heard bad things about this place and definitely don’t feel the need to try again. Rude/​expensive/​not accommodating — not worth it.

I admit I was a little hesitant to go here, even with my $ 80 gift card, because of the mediocre reviews I read on Unilocal.I’m happy to report, that I had an excellent experience. Lindsey did both my express pedi and express Gelish manicure and I’m very happy with her work! Bummer that she only works at Tootsies two Sundays a month, but if able, I’d request her. It was my first time though, so I can’t speak for any others. Though Cindy was also working and she seemed very knowledgeable. They also accommodated my last minute request to add on the mani service, so appreciated the flexibility.
By the way, it’s been one day, but I might be hooked on these Gelish manicures!
Only reason for not a full 5 star rating: I think you do pay for quality, so I understand their pricing, but still it’s a little pricey in my mind (maybe I’m cheap). Also think they could expand upon the breadth of polish color options.

Really want to like this place due to how conveniently located it is, however, my last several times here were poor.
To start, I have had 2 appointments cancelled the day of for technicians calling in sick. Next, the last 2 pedicures I have had here have been poor at best. Both times the polish was streaky, uneven, and half my toe painted. I end up fixing them at home so whats the point?
I had already stopped getting gel here for sloppy work. Now pedis too. Disappointed.

I had an appointment at tootsies for a mani/​pedi at 11:00. I got a call saying the manicurist was 15 min late. At 11:40 I’m sitting with my feet in a tin pan of cold water waiting. Two people are sitting at the desk texting. The woman who was supposed to do my mani pedi is doing a mani and talking away with her client. At 11:43 I dried my feet and left, never to return.

I always feel rushed in Tootsies, and more like they are the customer, and doing me a big favor. I find the independent shops to be much better. Their prices are very high.

Life is all about balance. For example, I could do my own nails and then spend money on Starbucks to balance funds, but the last time I tried to paint my own nails, my hands looked like a squirrel on meth did them, so clearly I had to prioritize. Tootsies on Tennyson is the ONLY place to go in Denver. I’ve lived here for 4 years and have been all over Colorado, (I am not even joking… boulder to the springs) and well groomed nails are worth every penny. The gals there are super sweet, but not fake like Splenda. They listen and are so detail orientated, which is great for my CDO (OCD but this way the letters are alphabetized). Carey has done some incredible Pinterest nail art on me, and trust me, you don’t want to see my Pinterest wins. If you are in need of a reliable, clean, friendly, and amazing nail shoppe, I would only recommend Tootsies. I also would like to give them more stars, but Unilocal only allows 5, which is corporate, things are rated on a 10 scale basis. Just sayin’

I really don’t understand what all the hype about this place is. I was given a $ 50 gift certificate for the Tennyson location, went in for a $ 33 express pedi, and left afterwards feeling really disappointed. I knew right away that I’d never want to go back, so I didn’t even care that I needed to leave a ridiculously big tip to use up all of the money remaining on the gift certificate, just to spare myself from ever having to go back.
The front desk service is rude, the space is old and cramped, the unimpressive décor tries too hard to be «cute,» and as other reviewers have noted, their prices are a rip-​off and their tech skills are terrible. The curt front desk girl who messed up my appointment acted like it was my fault, barely apologized, and didn’t even care to make a good first impression on a first time customer. How uppity, when she assured me that they don’t do gel pedicures because the «special» way they do their paints will last 3 wks. Umm, no, it lasted less than a week, and there was no different technique involved, other than how rushed they behaved to clear my chair for the next customer. Their pedicure stations are basically just tin buckets (again, trying to be «cute,» but not really) no bubble jets, no salts, no massage chairs. Snotty customer service goes with the snotty prices. $ 33 for something I could’ve done myself at home without the attitude. That «express» price didn’t even include a foot massage or leg scrub.
I just moved to the neighborhood, so I was thrilled to later discover another nail salon, on the same street and just a few doors down from Tootsies, where it costs only $ 25 to have a pedi done by super friendly, skilled Vietnamese ladies who act grateful for your business. They have fancy high-​tech vibrating chairs and real pedi bowls with bubble jets, AND their «regular pedis» INCLUDE a foot massage and leg scrub. You better up your game, Tootsies. I told ALL the customers in this other salon how everything about you guys was rude and subpar. Don’t ever upset a Highlands resident; we are very vocal.

Tootsies (Highland) is great! I have been going there for mani/​pedi for four years and have never had a bad experience. I read a few other reviews and some of the negative ones make me chuckle. «Our wedding party was running late…» was a good one. No one yells at Tootsies.
My nails had trouble adjusting to the lack of humidity in Colorado. Tootsies has helped me get through this and I now have very nice nails. The gelish is great-​and they only use the safe, LED lights. Carey is fabulous-​my nails last three weeks! Owner Is a kind and wise business woman. Angela is good at keeping things running smoothly. I love going to Tootsies-​they have taken good care of me!

I really like the nail techs at Tootsies and they have a very friendly staff, but the prices are too high for the service (s). I think every manicure and pedicure should include a arm/​hand or foot/​leg massage (respectively) and that you should not have to pay extra for these services.
I was a regular customer (appointment every 2 weeks) for a little while because the salon is walking distance from my house… I have decided it is better to drive a bit farther to go somewhere else because of price and because their gels don’t last as long as other places I have been to in town. The last one I got was peeling in under a week! For the price of a gel mani that really isn’t acceptable.

I returned here last weekend in need a pedicure but wanting to avoid the fumes of the strip mall places since I am pregnant and had to bring my 4 year old daughter with me). Great decision on all counts.
I appreciate the lack of the «nail salon» smell here and to top it off they were absolutely amazing with my daughter! They offered to let her sit in the chair next to me (she declined preferring to stay on the floor with the ipad) and the woman who did my pedicure was very nice while my daughter asked 20 questions about what she was doing and why during my pedi. However, the best part of the visit was once my toes were painted she offered to paint my daughter’s fingernails while my toes dried. My daughter was thrilled to pick our her own color and loved the glitter top coat.
I really appreciated them no only tolerating my daughter’s presence but actually including her in the visit.

I’m only giving Tootsies Wash Park one star (and not zero) because Laura, the receptionist was lovely. The manicurist was a toad!
I severed a tendon in my finger 8 weeks ago. After surgery, a cast, and a splint, I was looking forward to my first gelish manicure in some time. Laura took my polish off and was gentle and nice. She booked me for an appointment for the manicure today at 4:00.
Upon returning, I was «greeted» by the manicurist who made NO eye contact with me, was sullen and had her mouth full of food. Once I explained about my finger, she rolled her eyes and said «she guessed she could do it». I told her I would wait and she said she gets «squemish at all those doctor shows». I informed her I would go somewhere else, left the salon and will NEVER go back.
Not sure who the technician was, as her mouth was full and she never introduced herself. However, if Tootsies finds this caliber of employee, who ultimately represents their business to the paying customer, acceptable, I have no interest in supporting them. It’s a shame as I do like to support local, small businesses as much as possible.

Boo Tootsies, You suck!
As part of my sister’s wedding weekend extravaganza, we booked a party for all the ladies to get their nails done. We booked it weeks in advance and put down a deposit. The day of the appointments we were running a bit late, so my sister called to let them know. Whoever picked up the phone yelled at my sister and said that she was supposed to be 5 minutes early, not 5 minutes late! Well, my sister had set it up with owner who never said a word about having to be early so how was she supposed to know? My sister was pretty close to tears by the time we got there (the other members of our party were there on time, and seriously, we were 4 minutes late).
As for the actual job that they do… it was ok, but not worth what we paid for it. I’ve had better manicures at the mall.

I have had probably thousands of manicures and this was by far one if the worst. Don’t get me wrong the staff was lovely, but I could have polished my nails better than my manicurist. I’m not really sure she had a nail license as her nail painting method was not professional quality. It almost felt like I was playing dress up and my little cousin was painting my nails.
I never leave reviews but in an effort to give them some serious feedback
1. Wtf is up with not moisturizing my hands. Is that not included?!? Why must I have hard hands? Why no lotion?
2. Put some polish in the brush and use the 3 stroke paint method. Middle of the nail, then sides.
On a positive note my polish dried the quickest it has ever. I don’t know what they put in it but it took 5min for my nails (and some I forced 3 coats of polish on)
Also I still left Alex my person a $ 2.00 tip, I just can’t be ride and when I demanded she give me another coat on a few nails she did.

I got a spa pedicure at Tootsies. I found the service friendly, the pedicure experience relaxing, and the pedicure work itself neat and professional looking. I do not have a complaint about my experience! The décor is really cute and hygenic.
The only thing I would say is that at $ 48, I found the spa pedicure a little pricey.

I loved this place. I have been having a hard time finding someone in Denver that could do good nails. I have found them. Katie was nice, friendly and gave great advice (I am a nail biter). Some places make me feel bad because I bite my nails, but Katie didn’t and my mani and pedi still look great. Thanks and I will be back.

A friend got me a gift certificate for my birthday. This was my first visit and I wasn’t sure I would like it based on the hassle of their online appt system. Now I know you can only book online if you do it a day or more in advance. When I called, they were able to schedule me in on the same day.
Parking is easy and free. The girls were super friendly, fun and my pedicure looks great. I got the express pedi, which is $ 33. A tad high for no massage but very relaxing and reviving. Cleanliness is obviously a priority. They use metal basins for soaking, and files are disposed of after each pedi.
My favorite pedi place is in Edgewater, but with Tootsies being so close to home, I’m sure to be back again.

I only tried this salon because 5280 rated it best pedicure in Denver. And clearly the only reason why it is the best is because the salon is in the uppity Highlands and full of yuppies. Further there are no Asian workers so I guess that makes it better to the whitefolk?
I will not go here again.
The pedicure was below average. The pedicurist did not massage my feet or massage my legs. The paint job was not thorough and she did not use a sugar scrub or do anything of a pampering nature to my poor tootsies.
For this below average pedicure I was charged $ 33. Ridiculous. I would gladly pay more for a thorough and enjoyable pedicure. I will absolutely not go back to this salon and will instead return to my favorite nondescript Nail Salon in a strip mall.

This adorable little salon is a neighborhood favorite. The staff is super friendly and funny, and getting my nails done here was like visiting a salon in the 60’s where everyone knows everyone and we al just sat around and socialized.
I had the spa mani pedi with Rose who did a very nice job. Both my mani and pedi lasted through an upcoming beach vacation and still looked great a week later. I like that the salon is small and more personalized that some of the other larger-​scale salons with less character and warmth.
