We are a five generation-​old, locally owned and operated store, specializing in flooring, cabinetry, window treatments and counter tops. Boss Carpet One has been locally owned and operated since 1980. We have locations in Dixon and Freeport Illinois. We are your one stop flooring store with the largest inventory in the Sauk Valley.

History

Established in 1980.

The first store opened in Dixon, IL in 1981, over 30 years ago, and was owned/​managed by John and Julie Boss. Two years later it moved to a new location to accomodate more inventory. In 1985 a new store was built on Galena Avenue in Dixon, and in 1990 John and Julie hired a salesman to help manage the growth. In 2000, they opened the Freeport, IL location, and in 2003 their Cape Coral, FL location. John and Julie’s son Ben Boss is now the owner of the Illinois stores and their son Nick Boss manages the store in Florida.

Further back, John Boss’ Great Grandfather, Herman J. Boss was an employee of Marshall Field’s & Co. in Chicago, Il for 53 years as the head of Interior Design. In 1930, his son John H. Boss then followed in his father’s footsteps, taking a job as a buyer in the Floor Covering department. One day he purchased the last rug made by the Deltox Company in Wisconsin.
