History

Established in 1932.

Traverso’s Red Wing Shoes started in Richmond in 1932 when Jim Traverso graduated high school during the depression. Jim’s cousin owned a building with shoe repair equipment that had been abandoned. For several years, Jim & younger brother, John, used this equipment, to become skilled shoe repairmen. With John gone during World War II, their father Giovanni, retired from the railroad, helped at the shop. In 1946, Jim & John began selling shoes. In 1963, Red Wing Shoe Co., asked Jim & John to pioneer a Red Wing Shoe Store.

In 1976 the next generation, John’s son, John P. stepped in to open the Red Wing store in Dublin after winning Shoe Service magazine’s Silver Cup award for craftsmanship in ’75. After many years of providing quality work and service in Dublin John P.‘s children were old enough to work in the stores. Now John P. & 3 of his children, can be found working in the stores, providing the same service and knowledge that comes with 79+ years of business.
