History

Established in 1950.

One of the oldest fly-​fishing shops in the United States, Ted Fay Fly Shop opened for business in 1950 under the ownership of the late Ted Fay — a beloved angler in the state of California and one of most renown fly-​fisherman in the world. To this day, the shop welcomes customers from Japan, Australia & New Zealand, who come because of the heralded reputation of its original owner.

Now under the management of its third owner (Bob Grace), Ted Fay Fly Shop can be found in downtown Dunsmuir, near the historic California Theatre and across from Cornerstone Café — one of the best restaurants in Siskiyou County.

Ted Fay Fly Shop continues its long tradition of helping fishing enthusiasts from the south county, the Bay Area and across the US and the world find the best fishing locations on the Upper Sacramento & McCloud rivers.

Bob Grace bought and took over operations of Ted Fay Fly Shop, from the late Joe Kimsey, in 1997. When not at the shop, Bob can be found on the river, writing his next fish story, or spending time with his wife of over 40 years.
