Durango Brewing Co

This place was bought out by a company in Denver. They went in one day and fired all the staff and closed their doors for good. No longer open for food or beer.

This place is small, the outside seating is a bit like chilling in your backyard, and I really liked that vibe, we had hit four other breweries in Durango that day, and saw servers from three of them enjoying beers here as patrons, that says a lot to me, our food was good, the server was crazy busy, but she was very nice.

Well, the artichoke is different! It’s kinda watery but it sure is good. The open large opening doors to the bar are great for air flow until someone decides to smoke «outside»!
The beer is pretty good. No complaints with the beer but only stayed for a couple and took off after the smoker decided he didnt care about anyone else in the establishment and he was gonna stand «outside» and give everyone inside the joy of his habit.
I’ll probably come back but not until after sampling other establishments.

Poor service, the Artichoke dip was good, the IPA was not very Hoppy. We were going to eat there but due to the service we had our dip and left.

Excellent for all meals, which isn’t the case for most breweries. Great service and food.

I read a bunch of reviews on the brewery and they were here and there… We ended up staying at the hotel right next door, so we went for dinner (Thursday Night) and sat at the bar. We ordered a flight of beers and the queso dip with pub chips and tortilla chips. My fiancé said that the cheese and tortilla chips tasted like movie theater nachos– exactly what he wanted so that worked out :). The pub chips were really good.
For entrees, we ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (on the bartenders suggestion over the cheeseburger) and the wings– spicy bbq. The chicken sandwich was great– big piece of chicken, pretzel roll, guacamole, pico de gallo, bacon, and cheese. It came with fries– great seasoning. The wings were tasty, but surprisingly and sadly, cold– not sure if they tossed them in cold sauce after or what.
We tried all the beers they had (in flights) and they were decent. The cask beer was an India Pale Lager that was described as having hints of vanilla. Interestingly, we didn’t taste vanilla– we did taste citrus or orange peel (not in the beer). They also had a dark sour aged in whiskey barrels called Back to the Future that was awesome!
Live music was a guy playing covers of over 400 songs– right on man.

Ok beer… I make better beer… outta the way from downtown… there are WAY better choices in this town. Carver/​Ska/​Steemworks.
Service was very poor for me. a non local. (3 people behind thw bar, 6 customers, took 4 minutes for someone to look at me sitting at the bar)…seemed good for the locals.
$ 5 pints and growler fills (that got the extra star)

Good, not great food, but friendly. Good for beer food, loved their golden ale beer. Relaxed atmosphere. Kid friendly. Parking is difficult. They have amazing grilled onions for sandwiches and burgers.

Very disappointed. My husband and I were the only customers, after a short wait we were approached and our drink order was taken. My beer was served warm, and the staff never returned to our table to complete our order. It seemed the staff was more interested in conversing profanely with each other rather than attending to the ONLY customers in the place. I had purchased a $ 5 for $ 10 deal earlier in the day, I mentioned this to the guy who took our drink order. After waiting way too long to order our meal my husband decided to go up to the bar and pay our bill, the deal was not honored, we payed cash and left. I will Not be back!

Huge and delicious plates of food here! The chicken sandwich was excellent. The beer was solid, but not anything crazy amazing. This would be a great place to go on a summer day, because they keep their windows open when it’s nice! We were there when it was slow, so this may not count for much, but the service was very good.

I had read previous reviews about the service being shotty, but decided to give it a go anyway. Showed up to a relatively busy bar (on Sat night) and a single bartender working both the bar and the floor. She was taking orders, pouring beers, running food, everything. She swung by our table as she ran food to another table, and ended up taking our order for a flight of tasters and some waters a few minutes later About ten minutes later she came back by stating there were no clean glasses for tasters and whether or not we’d like something else. Realizing that we’d end up being there for at least a couple of hours before trying the beer and getting some food, we opted to leave.
Having been to GABF (2x) and multiple other beer festivals in the CO area, we’ve had DBC beers before. I’ve never been blown away, but imagine the cask conditioned beers at the brewery would have been different. We’ll try DBC again next time we pass through.
Suggestions for DBC:
1. Buy more glassware and staff appropriately

5 stars due to the «Derail» ale !! An amazing tasty strong ale… a must try ! We were there early November and had a quick lunch. Very few patrons at the time, but it started to get busier as we were leaving. Lunch was fine… fries and veggie burger were yum! We will be back… the waiter was prompt, friendly and well versed on the beer menu. Check out the vintage beer cans in the glass display…

It was not your traditional version of chicken and waffles, but it was one of the better versions due to certain tweaks. The mac and cheese was middle of the road, but I like the versions that are not soupy and this was more of the sticky variety. They have plenty of beers on tap and it was pretty crowded late on a Monday night. Oh, of course free peanuts and shell tossing was a nice bonus as well. A few blocks off the main drag, but probably you need to stop here if your looking for some creative food in this town.

Yikes. This place is bad news.
The service was slower than New Mexico wi-​fi (news reports suggest it’s slower than Slovakia’s, FYI) and the one waitress hopelessly overworked. Many people approached her simultaneously and it just led to a bottleneck resulting in long waits for beers.
As for the beers, there’s really little reason to come here as the majority are average at best, with several being dreadfully bad. Currently, there’s a brew called Durango Colorfest on tap, and that’s about as good as you’ll get there. It had the maltiness of an oktoberfest and I was convinced it was an oktoberfest beer, but my friends thought it a bit hoppy. If so, it still worked for me. It was enjoyable. Colorfest is about a 3.5÷5.
The Dark Lager is also a respectable Schwarzbier, light drinking with some rich dark malt flavor, but from there it’s pretty much downhill. This beer too is about a 3.5÷5
I honestly can’t endorse any of the other beers. Every other beer was in the 2.5÷5 range or lower and seemingly the work of an amateur homebrewer. How is that possible if this from such a veteran brewery?
Bottom line, if you’re in Durango and doing a round to all the breweries, don’t feel bad if you skip this place.

So we stopped in cuz I love to try local brews. I came with my wife and 2 dogs and because they had a patio, it was a no brainer.
However the patio was literally slanted 5 degrees and the tables were Walmart quality and weather worn. That equates to cheap and worn out. Apparently smokers cannot smoke inside because they came in small groups to add nicotine to the patio ambiance. Wow, too bad. The server was very nice and brought out water for the dogs and a couple tasters to us. When I mentioned the smokers, she mentioned there was another patio out front. Bless her heart, but It was literally on the main drag with traffic rolling constantly by. The entire place was more of a dive and needed some attention. If you are looking for a fraternity/​dive kinda feel. Have at it. We however excused ourselves and bid farewell.

Come for beers only. The India Red Ale and the Durango Amber Ale were delicious. Their beers 4 stars…
The service, atmosphere, horrible music selection (techno rap), no kids menu, I give it 2 stars. The service here is very slow our waitress was a little clueless, it took forever to order beers AT the bar and we also placed an order for a sandwich which she totally forgot to put in the order. So it took forever to get our food. No kids menu option either.
The atmosphere could be a little more inviting. The outside patio has no ambience compare to the rest of Durango. You will have to go inside and order your beers the entire place looks run down. Next time I will order a growler and go some place with more ambience.

We stopped here for some beer and food and were quite surprised at how nice everyone was! The beer is great and seating around the bar lends itself to some great conversations. We had a few sandwiches to go with our drinks and were pleasantly surprised that the tiny kitchen put out some good food.
My husband had the Cuban sandwich and thought it was quite tasty. I opted for a burger and was very happy with it. We will definitely return!

Ok so service was a bit slow due to it being a Friday night with only one server working but holy shit was it delicious! The beer was super tasty, the burger was out of this world and the fries… Absotatolutely outstanding.
Well done. My only wish is that Durango wasn’t so far from Austin!

Great spot downtown. Good food and Good beer. Kept pretty simple. I’ve been here four times an never had an issue with service, food, or the libations. It’s great! I’m not sure, however, I would go out of my way to take out of staters here.

Durango Brewing Company beers seems to occupy a prominent space on store shelves around town, and we drained our share of Hop Hugger bottles during the week we spent in town.
So we were a little surprised upon visiting their brewpub at the modesty and almost studied casualness of their little space. There’s just not much to it – a bar, a few scattered bar-​style tables, and a couple of TVs. Even the location in the north end of town, away from the touristy section of lower Main, is easy to miss.
Based on one of the one-​star reviews below, we were somewhat disappointed that the pub wasn’t filled with small-​town psychopaths. They must have been permanently barred along with that Unilocaler, because on the night we were there it was a very mellow, quiet vibe: a couple of families, a couple of older couples, a couple of younger couples, etc., all quietly chatting over food and beer. The sound system featured a radio show with hippie bluegrass, but more people seemed mesmerized by the TVs showing the ESPN Crossfit Competition – Female Division. (And, yeah, it was strangely compelling and dramatic.)
Because we’d had a gargantuan lunch, we had only the green chile chowder, which sounded like it could be a disaster – the creaminess of chowder mixed with green chiles sounded kinda discordant – but it worked quite well. It was also about the spiciest thing we consumed in the eight days we were in the Four Corners. In addition to the Hop Hugger, we also tried the Pale Ale and the Colorfest (an Oktoberfest style) while we there. All were very tasty.
The first server who showed up at our table, a blonde woman, seemed distracted (maybe she was worried about the Crossfit results) and was somewhat rude, but a younger bearded fellow soon took over and was much, much better. I guess that means that service might be hit-​or-​miss.
