History
Established in 1898.
The General Palmer Hotel was built by the civil war general, William Jackson Palmer. Built in 1898 it has served Durango and the surrounding area as a hotel since it’s inception. Rumor has it that «back in the day», there were gun fights and show downs right across the street from the hotel and barely a night went by that there wasn’t «action» in the vicinity. We are rated by AAA as a Four Diamond Hotel and have been so designated for the last 38 years. Freshly baked cookies are served every evening, with fresh coffee and tea.
Meet the Manager
Paula N.
Manager
I have been at the General Palmer Hotel for the past 19 years, and I truly love and enjoy being a part of the History and a part of the Present, both of which are wonderfully represented here at the hotel. I enjoy Durango as a community and the easy availability of «things to do», suits me to a tea. I enjoy a plethora of activities and never seem to tire of adding something new to my repertoire, to which I recently added scuba diving. Hiking, camping, rafting, climbing, horseback riding and hanging out with my 4 grandchildren are definitely at the top of my list of favorites. I live in Bayfield with my wonderful husband, 3 dogs, and a cockatiel named «Slugger», where I love to tend my flowers and vegetable garden.
