Apollo Grill

I went to Appollo Grill on Saturday evening.
I «gave» 2 stars because the server was excellent. The food quality was poor. We started with the fried calamari that is served with 2 sauces, an Aoli and a Marinara sauce (s). The Marinara must have been in an aluminum pan/​container in the refrigerator too long. It wasn’t room temperature… it was ice cold and had a metal aftertaste. The calamari had a light coating of corn meal bread crumbs. Only the rings… none with the tendrils and they had a mild fishy taste. We ate ½ of the shared serving because we were Hungary.
Normally I would have had 2 bites and waited for my entre but, I had been out all day with no time for lunch.
I ordered the Pistachio crusted Salmon that came with purple sticky rice and Asian Slaw. The Salmon was cooked perfectly The sticky rice was cold. I worked in the Hotel Restaurant Industry for 25 years. I know the rice is prepped in advance but, c’mon Chef at least warm it up. The Asian Slaw was fresh tasting.
The Server came by to ask how everything was and I told her the sticky rice was cold. She asked if she could bring me something else and I selected the garlic mashed potatoes, UNBELIEVABLY… they were served just lukewarm.
My friend ordered the the Goat Cheese Quesadilla with chicken and he said it was not warmed thru and it was mediocre at best. And, he said the Guacamole was waterery and even the Sour Cream he thought may have been a low fat version… no flavor.
I go out to eat frequently and can not remember having this poor food quality. Lastly when we left I noticed that at 8:15 PM there were only a few tables on a Saturday evening! I wish I could remember the Server’s Name because she was great. I told her what we thought of the food and she was sincerely concerned. I told her she is not responsible for the food and we thought her service was excellent. We left the standard 20% plus grat. Because she did her job. I
I doubt very much that I will ever return. There are too many other substantially better restaurants in the Valley. Anyone know who the Chef Is at Appollo? I thought it was a Chef Owned restaurant?

I’ve been to Apollo a zillion times since it first opened. I’ve tried everything on their menu… drinks, appetizers, main dishes, desserts, specials. Always… the food & service has been exceptional. I was beyond sad to read that Apollo would be closing this December so that Casey can concentrate on Galaxy.
Based on scheduling, this very well could be our last trip to Apollo. So we end with another fantastic stop. We sat at the bar. Mixed drinks were outstanding… well made & pleasantly strong. Dinner was fabulous… pork with Swiss chard, cauliflower mash, cranberry horseradish. Nicely presented. Perfectly cooked. Totally enjoyable. I even splurged for pumpkin ale with dinner. Service was friendly & fun. Ambiance as always was welcoming, noisy but a nice noisy that envelopes but doesn’t irritate you. We lingered & enjoyed our time. Apollo has been awesome! We hope to enjoy Galaxy in the future!

Consistently good food with consistently great service. I favor Appollo about once a week for lunch, and am never disappointed… except perhaps by my lack of discipline in getting one of their huge cookies each time. Check out the beet salad with feta and add some grilled chicken to it – the chicken is never dry (a pet peeve of mine), and the salad always fresh. Well done!

Very cool and laid back location and atmosphere.. Our waitress Kate was very helpful with the menu, super attentive, and overall great in the service Dept.
A very large restored mill building is the settings. Nice atmosphere. The food was on time and very tasty with a perfect sized portion.. We will certainly be back.

Great food; stellar burger local ingredients and artisan beers. Best enjoyed after a frustrated experience next door at the RMV.

Beer battered cod sandwich was totally delicious, fries rocked, pint of Tröegs was frosty and refreshing… Definitely coming back!

Great American fusion-​y local food. They’re consistent with their quality and lend great table service. The goat cheese sweet potato appetizer and meal are very satisfying and fun. More often than not I’ll get the hangar steak and I’m never disappointed. The bar also puts out some nice cocktails.

It’s a nice cozy little place in a mill building. I ordered a lighter fair eggplant and spinach dish. It was ok. I would have preferred a dish that had less oil in it. It stated. On the menu that the spinach was garlicky and they were right! I tasted garlic all night
My friends ordered the pork loins with red cabbage and ate every single bite. Also, two friends ordered a baked fish dinner to split and it was plenty big enough for two people. They said it was the best they have ever eaten. I had a stout beer… it was so darn good!!!
A friend ordered a chocolate martini and loved it.
It was a little hard to get the attention of the waitress. There were five of us having mixed drinks and we need to keep flagging her down for refills. All in all… a great place to meet up with friends.

I admit I’ll always have a little soft spot for this restaurant because it’s where my husband and I went on our first date. That first meal, back in 2005, and every other I’ve had there since has been absolutely delicious. It’s our go-​to place for special occasions, where we go to celebrate, where we take out out-​of-​town guests, and I’ve never once been disappointed by a meal here. It’s classy without being pretentious, kitschy and fun while still being elegant. Good service, delicious cocktails, nice choices for vegetarians. A bit pricey, but I’ve always felt worth it.

The décor was pretty retro, the dining room was HUGE and the dimly lit bar area was also a good size. We started with the spring rolls that came with chopped up cucumber and mint side along with somewhat spicy duck sauce. They were very delicious and a good amount of them, could be split between three people. For dinner I got the chicken sandwich that came on perfect ciabatta bread but I found the sandwich to be a little too large to eat so I had to cut it up, no biggie though! The French fries that came with my sandwich were so good even when I was full I couldn’t stop eating them. My mom got the roasted beets salad, which she said weren’t very roasted, and added chicken for only 3 dollars. The food was great and so was the service. I will be going back.

I love the Apollo Grill. I have eaten here 3 times, all 3 with a large group. They have a ton of space to spread out.
The décor is a little… Kitschy. But it’s fun, so who am I to criticize? In the center of my table sat a light, an old candle with Apollo graphics on it. For a space themed restaurant, this place has a lot of atmosphere (they get worse, folks…)
The location, unfortunately, works against it. It’s in an old factory building in a run down side of town. The plus side of this is that there is always a tons of space to park!
The food is the real star here. The Scallops are out of this world. Last time I tried the burger, and it was stellar. And the drinks are great too. A couple of Caiparinas will have you over the moon.
A solid 5 Stars!

This is one of our favorite date night restaurants, and while it’s probably not for absolutely everyone, we’ve never been disappointed.

On the scale of Average Joe, the atmosphere probably leaves something to be desired. It’s in an old mill building and looks a bit like it may have been decorated by a mediocre art student. Every table has a unique, sometimes antique, set of salt and pepper shakers and the whole thing has a very retro atomic style which is more suggestive of TV dinner than a nice night out, but don’t be fooled. It’s unique in a way that I find endearing, but which belies the quality of food they serve.
The menu is small, but manages to offer a pretty wide variety of unusual (but not «far out» or scary) items that you’re unlikely to find in other restaurants. We usually start with the Polenta with Wild Mushrooms which is drizzled with truffle oil. For dinner, I almost always get the Pistachio Encrusted Salmon, which comes with a mango hollandaise sauce, an amazing slaw whose contents I don’t understand and can’t describe, and purple rice which I’ve never seen anywhere else. If I were going to be executed, this would be my last meal.
You can get a very nice meal here from anywhere in the mid-​teens to the low twenties in price. They also carry a decent selection of beer and wine. I usually go with a cider, or a glass wine because I have to eat gluten free. The last time I was there, they had a «ginger libation» on tap which was made locally and was… interesting. Jury’s out on whether I would order it again.
However busy, we’ve never really waited for a table and our service has always been friendly and prompt. And if you go in starving, you’ll be pleased to discover that they are among the few non-​Italian restaurants left that will bring you complimentary bread and butter to start.

The Apollo Grill is a hip place to go for drinks or dinner. You really can’t go wrong here. They have cool vintage modern furnishings. Every table has cool, unique salt and pepper shakers. The chairs are atomic and brightly colored. It really does tread perfectly between hip, kitch and classy.
Food: The food is mostly American (steaks, fish, chicken, burgers) but with a bit of fusion flair. I don’t really ever order the ethnic options in a place like this so I’ve always stuck with options like Salmon and the burger. Their burger is awesome! It’s made from local, natural beef. The salmon was divine. They also have other local offerings, like the Local Libation ginger cider. It’s phenomenal!
Location: It’s located in the Eastworks building, a Mill converted into shops and various businesses. The space itself is very cool and has really fun space themed decorations. I love the vibe here.
Service: I’ve always had great service. They don’t annoy you with questions, it’s a bit more hip than that. It’s frequently packed, so if you’re in a rush, be prepared to sit in the bar area. The bartender is very friendly, but again, keeps to himself when you’re in a conversation. There’s nothing worse than a bartender that wants to talk your ear off.

I rarely one star a place… check my record and you can see for yourself. My wife, her parents, my father, her brother, have all eaten here on multiple occasions. Have never had a problem and have always enjoyed the food. Long overdue for a review so I was looking forward to writing this. Unfortunately when we came by this past Friday we were met with shockingly rude service.
What was shocking was that the rude service was from the manager, (or a young woman who at least postured that she was the manager). The gist is that we ordered some drinks during dinner. Two cosmos for the ladies please! Only one is served and we remind the waitress about the second. It comes a few minutes later and looks like a glass of cranberry juice. Tastes like juice too. If there was vodka in it you could have fooled me. We asked politely for the drink to be made and explained the issue. Waitress took it back with no issue. Then a w minutes later the manager came over. It seemed like she was going to apologize for the mistake and wait, but rather, we were insulted and accused of lying about the drink being made improperly. Seriously? She eventually agreed to have a new drink made, which was made perfectly. What happens next? Ready? Wait for it… SHE COMES OVER AND SAYS OUT OF THE BLUE THAT WE STILL DON’T LOOK HAPPY!!! Lady, what are you on? We sternly let her know that the drink the perfect and she was the problem. She then went back to the bar to HUG the bartender! Where am I!!! As we left, tipping our waitress the full 20% despite the horrible experience, the bartender went t bus the table and stared me down, (that is until he realized I saw him)…WOW.
I hope the owner reads this. We will never be back. Not me, my wife, our parents, etc…
Should you go? Sure. If you like to gamble.

I keep it quick. My hangar steak meal was awesome. My wife’s quesadilla was also pretty dang good. But… the roasted garlic potato cake… WHATTTTTTT??? Amazing.

The evening I went (a Saturday), we were the only table so I assumed we would get great service. Wrong. The server stopped by about every 25 minutes if that and seemed to have no idea what she was doing. If the food had been great or even decent, I could have overlooked the crappy service a bit.
After looking over the menu I thought the quesadilla with sweet potatoes sounded decent. When I ordered it, I asked if they could please use another cheese as I hate goat cheese but any other kind would be fine. The waitress said there were no substitutions on it because IT COMES PREMADE AND FROZEN! What kind of supposedly nice restaurant just opens up a package and pops it into the oven? I can do that myself at home! I found it especially interesting since several others mentioned how great it is yet Apollo Grill doesn’t even make it.
I instead ordered the chicken quesadilla and the cheese was oddly slimy, the tomatillo sauce had a very unpleasant bitter taste (and I love tomatillo sauce/​salsa verde) that was so strong I couldn’t eat it. The sour cream looked like bottled dressing and tasted so bad I and the other two people who got the same dish all scraped it off. The rice and beans were bland and the whole dish lacked freshness and acidity.
The worst part of the whole thing? I was up all night getting sick.
Horrible and apparently not safely prepared food and lousy service? You couldn’t pay me to go back here.

for Paleo & anti-​inflammatory eaters: Grilled chicken & spinach salad — just have them hold the cheese (and croutons? I forget if it has those normally).
I like their burgers and their chicken & spinach quesadilla too.
Totally non-​paleo Eastworks survival tip: The Apollo usually has fresh-​baked chocolate chip cookies that may or may not last through the lunch hour, and they are the best deal on fresh cookies around.
Have to admit, the Apollo gets some nostalgia points from this life-​long space program fan… and I’m also weirdly charmed by the archways in the back dining room which are recycled conveyors, from the building’s previous life as a Stanley Home Products factory.

The food at Apollo Grill is out of this world (horrible pun on the restaurant’s theme not originally intended, but now fully appreciated).
To drink I started off with a Pimm’s Planet. It was quite a treat, as Pimm’s isn’t especially common on this side of the pond, and it’s such a perfect, refreshing drink for the summer. Once I had polished that off, I moved on to a Lunar Lemonade, which was tart and sweet but still didn’t skimp on the alcohol.
For an appetizer, we got the goat cheese, sweet potato and avocado tostada. The only bad thing about it was having to share – it was delicious, and my inner fat kid wanted the whole thing to myself! I also had a cup of their soup of the day, which was a very tasty sweet potato and corn chowder.
For my entrée, I had the scallops in truffle butter sauce. I’ve had a lot of scallops in my life, but these had to have been some of the best. They were cooked so perfectly; their consistency was creamy, and upon taking a bite they’d just melt in the mouth. My husband had the buttermilk fried chicken, which rivaled some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in the South. It was crispy and flavorful, with tender, juicy meat inside the breading.
The service was very friendly and attentive, the galactic theme was fun and unique, and the food was fantastic. If I find myself in Easthampton again, I would love to go back to the Apollo Grill.

This is the third time I’ve updated my review of the Apollo Grill.
As I was eating my lunch from there today (turkey club on multi-​grain bread), I realized why the Apollo is so good.
It’s the tomatoes.
No, it’s not THE tomatoes but more about the fact that in all the food I’ve ever gotten there that has sliced tomatoes on it, I’ve never had a bad tomato… you know those ones that aren’t so ripe that they have a sickly green tint to the center of them. You see, I eat my sliced tomatoes separately, so I always get to see the entire tomato. They are always fresh, and always ripe.
So while it’s not about the tomatoes, it really is. Everything at Apollo Grill is this way… fresh and flavorful.
Another thing I noticed today is that, unlike most places, when you get a sandwich or a burger you don’t run out of french fries before you do sandwich. There are plenty of them to last through the whole meal.
So if you want a place that has great lunch and even better dinner food, then you have to check out the Apollo Grill in Easthampton.

This may be one of my favorite places for lunch in the Pioneer Valley. Pretty much everything I’ve had is done really well with quality ingredients from the steak and spinach salad to the amazing portabella sandwich to the chicken and spinach quesadilla. The fries are really good and the chocolate chip cookies they have at the counter are delicious, especially for the price! I think they’re like 75 cents or something incredible like that. The portions aren’t huge but they’re enough to fill you up and the prices are really very reasonable.
I recently went to dinner here and it was also really good, although a little pricier than I would like. Mmm, steak tips with deliciously roasted butternut squash and brussels sprouts! I could’ve used more garlic in my potato cake but there’s no way a fried potato cake could go wrong!
The atmosphere is really cool. Not really a date spot because it’s not romantic at all but during the day, there’s lots of sunshine through the factory windows and the archways made of old machinery are pretty awesome. It’s fun and unique and service is always friendly. And yay for adorable salt and pepper shakers!
