Half Price Books University Village — Edmond, Oklahoma — Buy and sell new and used books, CDs, LPs, DVDs, comic books, textbooks, magazines, electronics, games, nostalgia, stationery and more!
Books, books, books! …and DVDs and a few miscellaneous items. I always find something(s) to take home or give to a friend. It’s mostly well organized. I like the buy-back program. Sure, I could probably sell them for more online but Half Price Books is here and now, and I can take the cash and immediately spend it inside their store on more books. Wow, they are geniuses.

My favorite store in Edmond and one of my favorite bookstores ever. As someone who loves to read, it’s the best thing ever when you can get all of the books on your reading list ONSALE! I can’t come in without buying five books at a time. It’s right next to campus too — perfect for any class reading!

I love Half Price Books simply on principle: books for days and books for cheap! The Edmond location is the one I frequent the most, and like with any steady visits to a used book store, it’s pretty easy to see the same stock over and over again. The crowded shelves by the service desk indicate that they have a never-ending supply of new items to be put on the floor though! I’ve even sold them a few things myself just to clean off some of my shelves. Do note that they stock new books as well, usually with 20% off publisher’s price, as well. There are so many things that you can buy at HPB aside from books – audiobooks, DVDs, vinyl records, posters, comics. There’s also some neat sections with some rare books and old newspapers if that’s your particular brand of nerdery. Be sure to stock up on your coupons! HPB is very generous with the coupons. I picked up a calendar from them at the beginning of the year that had coupons for every month that switched off from being eligible for online or in-store purchases. You can get quite a sweet deal throwing some coupons on top of already-discounted materials.

The staff was very friendly helpful and they had a large assortment of gently used and new books. I found books I didn’t even know I was looking for! I would definitely go back to this location.

Had my first visit to Half Price Books just recently. We made it a family event with my wife, kids & in-laws. Everyone was interested in something different & none of us were disappointed. When I think about a used book store, I picture a dingy little place full of books that no one is really interested in, but possibly a gem tucked in between a thousand other books. This is not what Half Price Books is like at all! The store is very large, clean, very well organized & lots of great options. The store is laid out in sections based on book topics. There’s a kids section, military, fiction, religious, technology… etc The only section that I wasn’t too thrilled with was the computer/technology section, but really that’s not entirely fair since technology changes so frequently. I’m sure its hard to keep relevant books. Lots of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, How to use an iPhone 3GS. You get the point. That aside, everything else was awesome. We all found something we liked. The prices are very reasonable and far cheaper than full price. If you you like to read at all, do yourself a favor & come check this place out.

Great place to look for book to read. Large variety of books, bigger than I expected. They also have 33 albums and CD’s. One reason I really enjoy this store is because they have a smorgish board of old and new books… lots more variety than when I go to Barnes n Noble.

Most chain stores are pretty predictable: A Starbucks in North Dakota is pretty much indistinguishable from one in South Carolina(same menu, same chairs, same décor). Since Half Price Books relies greatly on used stock, though, its stores can vary wildly. I’ve been to several HPBs and, while they’re usually pretty good, this one in Edmond is the best by far! The main reason is their stock — in addition to the usual sections, they’ve got this great«collectible» section, where you can find some very interesting and eclectic stuff, usually for less than the price of a new paperback(for example, a great condition illustrated version of Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal for $ 4). Esoteric subjects also get a great treatment here. The store is large enough that they can afford to stock stuff like Wittgenstein, obscure historical works, scientific texts, and foreign language books. They’re also one of the few places with a good selection of vinyl, and they’ve got a great selection of CDs and DVDs as well. Plus, the staff is unfailingly friendly and eager to help. For example, if the store recently mailed out a coupon, they’ll keep a stack behind the register so customers who don’t even know about the coupon can get the discount at checkout. One note, though: Although HPB has a lot of new stuff, most of their books are used. Thus, if you’re looking for something super-specific(like a particular translation of a not-very well-known book), don’t be surprised if HPB doesn’t have it. As with the best used book stores, the thrill with this HPB is the mystery of what you could find. Want a copy of a classic? They’ll probably have that, but so will most bookstores. However, rooting through a shelf and finding a strange pulp-paperback version of one of your favorite books is an experience you simply can’t have at Barnes & Noble!

I love used book stores. Half Price Books as a chain is very good. Their inventory is wide, their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, and their prices are great.(Half the normal price as their name suggests!) I normally buy my books from Amazon, but I now check HPB before I do that. Usually I can find what I’m looking for at one of their locations. When I was in school, HPB employees assisted my research on multiple occasions, pointing out different books I could use as references. Like I said, very helpful staff! If you can’t find a book at one if their locations, they can order it from you – though this is something I haven’t tried yet. Come check it out!

Lots of books to look through. Hard not to find something to read here. A great used book store if you’re looking to buy used books.

Over the course of my unnecessarily lengthy post-secondary education, I’ve accumulated a substantial number of books. How substantial? It got so bad that my closet was being used as a mini-library. It got so bad that when I finally emptied out my closet library, I found one particular book. And then I found that same book. Four more times. I didn’t have the patience to try to sell each book individually on eBay/Half or Amazon(if you do have the patience, that is indeed the way to go because you will make a lot more money selling your books online than at any physical bookstore) so I opted instead to load up my car with the books and take it to HPB. One of the employees told me that it would be a while before I could have all of my books priced, and an offer would be made. Understandable, since he had literally hundreds of my books to go through. After an hour of me browsing, I was called by name to the counter and he showed me the offer for my books. Considering how much I spent for the books, it was a piddling amount being offered but that is to be expected when you have a bunch of textbooks. They’re worth pennies if they’re even just one edition older than the current one. But I got a decent amount for all of my novels. The real kicker though: after he gave me the quote, he pulled out three books from the pile and told me that I could get a lot more money by selling those books online. Who does that? A good person, that’s who. He could have totally shafted me(and I wouldn’t have known any better), and the fact that he didn’t is very impressive. Their selection is quite expansive, and could give Barnes & Noble a run for their money. Every time I’m in there, I’ll randomly think of an author/book that I want to check out, and they always have it. If you’re into terrible authors(e.g. Stephenie Meyer, E. L. James, L. Ron Hubbard, etc.), those books are also available. I found a number of best-sellers being sold for $ 3.00. I spent more on my crappy lunch today. Obviously, a majority of the books are used so if you’re one of those hoighty toighty people who needs to have new books before you will read them, then you may as well not go.
