Sun Auto Repair

I have been going to Sun Auto for the past 15 years. Prior to going to Sun, I was burned by a couple of shops, but my first few times taking my cars to Sun Auto put my fears to rest. They are honest and up front, and very nice to deal with. Huey and his Pop are awesome, so much so, that my family now takes their cars to them for service. I have gone in for break jobs, oil changes, engine light issues, car stuttering (thought it was a huge deal, and it turned out to be some bad spark plugs!), bad catalytic converter (and after some research, Huey was right on with his estimate). Anyway, I can’t say enough about these guys. I am not afraid to recommend them to friends and family, because they have never failed to treat anyone dishonorably.

These guys are awesome. My car was cranking but not turning over, so I had it towed to my usual go-​to guys at El Cajon Muffler and A/​C. They called and said it was beyond their level of expertise, and recommended Sun Auto, saying that one of the owners took his mom there. So, I had it picked up and towed over to Trinh and Huey. They called with the bad news that it was going to need a new (ish) motor from Japan. So I bit the bullet because I don’t have time or energy to deal with hunting for another car, and gave them the go-​ahead. He called before the promised week to 10 days was up, and said they had put in the newer motor, plus a bunch of other new parts, and done some things to the transmission and the solenoid because the Check Engine light had come on. They didn’t charge me for any of the extra work. It was running great for a few days, then began the «I don’t want to start» BS again. So I called them and had it towed back, and this time the fuel line was clogged somehow. So, he fixed that, gave it a couple of test drives, and called me to come get my car– no charge. I love these guys.

Love the guys. They ate very nice, clean and know how to treat you. They even remember your name. When work is being done, the show you what the problem is with the car. They at times will help you with the cost.

These guys rock. I’m kinda handy with cars and when ever I have had problems they can figure it out timely and fairly inexpensive

I’ve been bringing my cars here since I moved to El Cajon in about 2005. They have been so good to my whole family, always offering advice when buying used cars, always being extremely helpful and fair in pricing when car woes arise. I am no longer a resident of El Cajon but gladly will drive from the golden hill area to this shop simply because they are the only shop I trust to do a great job consistently and with great customer service to boot. Finding a good mechanic is like trying to find a good barber. And these guys know what they’re doing. I now know where to bring my cars for any problem from now on.
I have brought my car for multiple reasons. From as simply as an oil change, to replacing my alternator, spark plugs, ect. They actually had to take the whole front end off of my car just to get to the alternator.

Thank you guys for your hard work, and extremely positive attitudes towards all my problems.

Without a doubt, the most honest mechanics I know. They will get the job done, and it will be done well while providing you with a fair price. The Sun Auto Team have done all of the maintenance on my car, and I have only had one major repair dealing with my exhaust pipe blowing blue smoke (turns out it was burning oil lol), and have not had any problems after years of driving my Nissan 240sx. If you want good quality repairs that will last, Sun Auto is the garage that will take care of you and your vehicle.

Sun Auto is an awesome auto repair place. They are very good honest mechanics and their pricing is very good. We take all of our vehicles to Sun and are always satisfied. They do quality work and use quality parts.

These guys really helped me out and saved me lots of time. I was having trouble with my axle and bushing so I took it in.
I didn’t have time to order parts but they did it for me. The work would have set me back 3 days due to the lack of tools I had. I was expecting this to be an all week job but the outstanding service of Sun Auto Repair got the job done quickly. I usually do my own oil but they did that for me.
I will sure to be back!

5 stars for the people at sun auto. Had to send my moms car for a minor repair and bryant was too kind and knowledgeable to explain and point out other stuffs that needs to be fixed. Very affordable and reliable people. Will be coming back for more.

I have been looking for a shop that I can stay loyal to for years. It always seems that repair shops today try to loot you for your money. But this place has never done me wrong. Great service and awesome staff. I’ve taken 3 of my vehicles here so far and have recommended a lot of my friends. If I could go back and just have found this place sooner. 5 stars! I must say this place is the home of some Hard working individuals. I believe it’s a mom and pop type shop and I gladly Support our locals especially because They are truthful with what needs to be replaced and repaired. They have worked on a couple of my cars and my parents cars.
Not to mention the turn around times are good too. If you are in need of any auto repairs From brakes to recharging the air conditioning this is the place to be.

As a woman, there have been multiple instances where auto shops would take advantage of me and try to sell me extra work. I know better than that, but I was fooled a couple times and I just about had it with auto mechanic shops. I was referred to Sun Auto by a friend who has been going to them for years. My first experience with them was awesome. The brakes on my Acura TSX were starting to go bad as they were squeaking. I took my car to Sun Auto and was greeted by Huy, one of the son’s. We took a test drive around the block and we were able to replicate the noise. We returned to the shop and he showed me what my options were in replacing the brakes. Huy is so knowledgeable about his work that I trusted what he said and his recommendation. Since that instance, I haven’t gotten my car fixed anywhere else. I’ve taken my Honda S2000 to their shop since S2000’s are notoriously known for the rear differential going bad when they reach 100k+ miles. I was able to get an accurate diagnosis of the problems I had encountered and a detailed description of what to expect to fix this issue. With it being my first RWD car, I wanted to make sure I was secure at all times driving it around– especially on San Diego’s occasional rainy days.
I highly trust and recommend Sun Auto! You can definitely see the family bond between Tuyen and his 3 sons, which is a really cool dynamic to have in an auto shop! Not to mention… their shop is located conveniently near a Starbucks and Yogurt Mill!!!

As for your comments claiming you show invoices and reciepts, Bryant, the Cal BAR felt otherwise. You couldnt produce them even for them. Be honest, do the repairs that are needed and legit, not ones that are proven unneeded and faulty in quality. Oh, and stop having your friends write false good Unilocal reviews. Try earning good reviews instead. Good luck in the future

I was recommend by a good friend of mine about Sun Auto Repair. I must say that this place is great from the knowledge of the employees to how clean this repair shop is compared to the ones that I’ve been. I came in for a clutch master cylinder install, my original one was on its way out and I already had the replacement part along with the fluid. They quoted me the best price that I was shopping around for, and only took 3.5 hours to complete. Other shops charged me a bit more and double the time to install the part.
I would highly recommend Sun Auto Repair to anyone looking for a basic oil change and transmission fluid flush and major transmission repair and engine rebuild. The owner is very friendly along with the staff.

!!!TRUSTED & FAIR!!! Sun Auto Repair was recommended to me from a friend who does a/​c & muffler work. I have now been bringing my son’s ’95 Honda here for a couple of years. He got the car used with a lot of miles on it. This family business stands behind their work and doesn’t push unnecessary work. I always tell my friends to give them a call to see if they can do the work needed. This from a mom who calls and says «hey, somethings leaking.»

Great shop, awesome people, been coming here for years! Tuyen and his sons are class acts, they’ve never overcharged Me, or pushed me to buy something I don’t need, they’re extremely straight forward about what you need to get rolling! I will always come back for their outstanding customer service and ability to diagnose and repair in a timely and orderly fashion!
