Kool Cuts

I have been to this place three times. The first time I got a haircut by Samy for $ 17. I asked how much for hair dye and she said $ 35 for dark brown for my length. Next time I went, I got a cut and dye. I payed $ 60 plus tip. Prices seemed reasonable, so I was impressed. I went again today to touch up my root (about one inch). There were a few things I didn’t like. I had a 5 pm appointment. I showed up at 4:40 pm and waited. She was dying someone’s hair. Finally she sits me down on the chair at 5:20 pm. I’m already annoyed that I waited 40 minutes despite booking an appointment. Then it turned out that it was a bad idea to book two overlapping clients for a hair dye. She had trouble juggling both of us. To make a long story short, someone else had to help dry my hair because she needed to rinse the other person’s hair. I told the person who was going to dry my hair twice that I was hungry and just wanted to go have dinner so don’t do anything complicated. She totally disregarded my request and dried and then started straightening my hair. This took at least another 30 to 40 minutes. Finally, at 7:20 pm, a third person charged me $ 60. I asked «Why am I paying more this time just for a root dye? That’s what we charge for a touch up for long hair and style.» My hair is not even long it’s more like medium length and I didn’t ask for a style but I didn’t have the energy to argue. I was so ready to leave. She told me last time they undercharged me. I let it go but I won’t be going back to this place. They need to improve their customer service and actually listen to what the customer wants. I get that the scheduling problem led to having to pay two people instead of one but that was their bad not mine.

This review is for Brenda. I had an appointment at 3:45pm, and yes I realize I canceled and reschedule the time, but I had this appointment set for almost a week.
I walked in at 3:40pm and she had a guy in her chair. The receptionist confirmed that I would be next because I had an appointment. Meanwhile, I hear Brenda complain to the receptionist that I’ve canceled and rescheduled a couple times and she got confused. 30 minutes later, she is done with with the guy, she pulls the receptionist aside and tells her to tell me that she’s behind and I’ll have to wait longer. So she takes another lady ahead of me. At this point, I’ve waited for 35 minutes and it’s clear I’m going to have to wait another 30 mins. I then told the receptionist to cancel my appointment.
Brenda is highly unprofessional and really rude. I can’t believe in this day and age of Unilocal,someone in the service industry thinks such deplorable customer service is Ok.

This was my first experience going to a salon by myself and I know that I will definitely go back. I discovered this place on the Olaplex website, which is this miracle-​working additive to your bleach or hair color that’s all the rage right now because of its no-​damage claims. I told Brenda that I had mild scalp psoriasis and was afraid of how it would react, and she recommended that I do some test strands before we actually got down to business. I could tell from the way that she spoke, she was very knowledgeable in her work, and I felt relieved that someone like her would be taking care of my hair. Needless to say, the test strands turned out more than fine and I set up my appointment to get my hair bleached and dyed blue. Brenda told me I would be there for about 5 or 6 hours and it would cost $ 165, but I knew what I wanted and already trusted her. She is a professional after all. On the day of, I had lots of time to meet the other stylists, watch how they treated their other clients, and really got a feel for the environment. The atmosphere is just so friendly and welcoming and I noticed their very close relationships with returning customers. When everything was done, I couldn’t believe the final result. Brenda weaved sapphire and cobalt colors through my hair so that I had different shades of black and blue depending on the light. I couldn’t stop gasping and laughing every time I moved my head. I received such high quality service, was treated so well by all the wonderful women there, and walked out the door with hair as healthy as when I first stepped in. I feel like I would have to pay over $ 200, maybe even more, to get the same result anywhere else. I can’t recommend this salon enough. I know that I will return someday because I’m not sure if I want to trust anyone else with my hair hahaha! Thank you to everyone who made my first salon hair coloring experience a fun one ^_^

I have been coming to Brenda for almost a year now, and she is simply the best! Since day one she sat me down listened to what I wanted then explained what she would do and continued to do that as she trimmed and colored. She really does care about what the customer wants, is super friendly and easy to talk to. I love all the tips and advice she gives me to maintain the hair color, she is AMAZING.

I’m very picky when it comes to my hair ! My boyfriend had his hair cut by Brenda here a few weeks ago (he’s also extremely picky) and he loved it. Brenda seemed very experienced so I decided to ask her about hair color. She was very honest with me about what could and could not be done to my hair since I wanted to go from silver to brown (my hair had been bleached A LOT). She warned me that it might not hold the color correctly but she did her best to do it the shade I wanted. She went above and beyond to make sure it came out perfect ! I LOVE the chocolate brown color she did. Not only that but it was super fast ! Couldn’t have been happier with Brenda’s work and her customer service

Came in to have a root retouch and a new peekaboo color change today. I am more than pleased with the color work Brenda did and the styling work Samy did. I visit the salon frequently for styling and have always had nice results. Today was no different. Awesome job, ladies!!! Thank you so much for making me feel and look beautiful!

I’ve been looking for a good hair dresser in the area last couple of months. After I looked at online reviews I’ve decided to come here Kool cut in El Sobrante. Samy did awesome job! She’s a very understanding my need and most importantly she was considering how to keep my hair healthy. which is a very important to me! She gave me hair treatment and hair cut!!! Highly recommended! And I’m not going to SF for my hair cut anymore. Thanks Samy and Kool Cut

I came to get my first-​ever hair coloring and Brenda did an amazing job! She explained each step (sensing I was nervous), and answered my questions. The result is that I have gotten MANY compliments on my new look. Thank you, Brenda!

Brenda, Sammy, and Hong are great! My hair is crazy thick, but they are skilled at making me look like a normal human being by the end of the appointment. And they’re very friendly people. El Sobrante is lucky to have a small business like them, as Brenda runs a quality salon. When I lived far away, I used to drive 30 minutes just to come here!
I personally recommend calling ahead to make an appointment so you don’t have to wait, but they take walk-​ins too.

I came back for a haircut, color and highlights with Brenda on April 11^th and she did an excellent job at helping me get ready for my Hawaii and Las Vegas trips. I was very happy with the final results. She even gave me tips on how to manage the color/​highlight after she was done, but I’ve been flying all over the place that I haven’t had the chance to go purchase what she told me to get.
I came in not knowing what color I wanted so I just told her I’d leave it in her capable hands… which she proved to be very capable. It wasn’t anything dramatic nor overly subtle. Brenda is not only great at what she does, but she is also very attentive to details.
If you come in asking her for a dramatic color change that you want, she will give you her honest opinion on whether that color will suit your look, skin color and age. But whether you choose to take her advice or not is totally up to you…
She is also very willing to fix anything that you don’t like, which I’ve never had to do as of yet. But it’s just nice to know that you have that option – should you ever feel like crying after choosing to go with your own color choice instead of actually listening to Brenda when she tells you that the color won’t go with your skin tone.
I’ve heard of a few people who blames the hairstylist/​colorist for doing a bad job, when it was totally their own fault for choosing the wrong color that didn’t compliment their looks. But we can’t all look like models when we weren’t born models to begin with…

Brenda was very nice. She cut my husband’s hair and my hair. She wanted to make sure it was cut exactly like we wanted it. If there was something that was not going to work, she pointed it out.

Went here for a child’s haircut ($ 14) and we made an appointment with Brenda. She was awesome. My baby boy was scared… But she was patient and talked him thru it.
I definitely would recommend this place for kids cuts. I’m actually thinking of getting my layers redone here.

Both Brenda & Hong have cut my hair. I luv my new hair and they so nice! Hong color my hair and make me look younger than I am :)

Scheduled an appointment with Fernanda today because of her good reviews and I’m glad I did! I came in for highlights and I left satisfied :) I trusted her with my hair, and She did a great job! My hair wasn’t in the best condition and I had been through a lot of dye jobs and she managed to take care of me and really know what would work best for my hair. Thank you Fernanda! Can’t wait until my next appointment. I’d really recommend her!

Do not come here. The stylists do not know how to cut little boys’ hair. She butchered my son’s hair and blamed it on his hair texture. I’ve been to many places and no one has ever made this excuse.

I LOVE this place! Brenda has done my hair the last 3 times and I’ve LOOOOVED every style and color she’s done on me. Today, I got samy and she also made some miracles with my naps! I’ve gone from long to short to bangs and dark brown to blonde, you name it! I’ll add more pics of Brenda’s work so you can see for yourself!

Also, love that Even though they have more customers waiting, they won’t rush because in the end those customers know that when it’s their time they’ll be getting the same attention. Brenda and samy, you’re the BEST!

This was my first time coming into this salon. I was looking for a new place that can cut my son’s hair. After the reviews I thought I’d give it a try. Long story short. The Asian lady that worked there cut my son’s hair. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my son’s hair.
She immediately got her clipper and just started shaving my son’s head. mind you my sons hair was really long. She cut his hair so short that he almost looked bald! I wanted a slight fade. She didn’t even line him up nicely at all. He now has no hair line! She couldn’t even blend the hair nicely. Luckily this other lady came and took over. And made it look a little better.
I won’t be coming here again.

I saw this place when searching for salon to give my daughter a haircut, this place was close to my & it had great reviews so i decided to call this place to get more information. Called this place at 9:05am (when they opened at 9am) — wanted to get a price for a kids haircut — & there was NO answer.
Waited for a few minutes & called again — still NO answer. After awhile I didn’t call back. They can’t be busy 10 – 15 minutes after opening. No answer, no information, lost a customer today. Went to super cuts instead, cheaper haircut (one of the reviews said that a kids haircut was $ 18!), super cuts charge $ 15, answers the phone, get helped right away. Save time and money & go there!

Found my new go to salon! Brenda was GREAT. Through out the whole process she was so informant, patient, and a perfectionist. She gives her opinion but doesn’t force it on you like other salons, even though I agreed to what she thought anyways. Came out great. Great service and great prices. I’m very picky when it comes to my hair (due to horrible experiences) but she nailed it. Too bad I didn’t know about Kool Cuts before.
