This place is awesome. I own an 10 year old Audi which occasionally needs service. Got tired of paying dealer prices for un-​needed repair. So I tried this place. And in just 2 years, it has probably saved me thousands.

I have lived in Elmhurst for about 25 years. Used to work in Chicago and had any service work I needed done in the city. Had a misfire in my car last summer and needed a local shop. Was recommended by a friend. Also requested some other work. Service was great. I work locally now and they provided me a ride to work. Car ready at the end of the day. I understand it cannot always be same day service, but what was needed could be done in one day and they accommodated. Knowledgable, cost was fair, and repaired right the first time. Some of the work I requested, Shazzad convinced me I didn’t need and he was right.
Have been back with another family car and same good service and fair treatment. Thanks again and by the way, your recommendation regarding the gasoline treatment and better grade of fuel worked and my granddaughter’s 2003 car has passed emissions. Granted it may be a temporary repair, and it does not always correct that condition, but your advice delayed a costly repair for the time being.
I worked in the auto body service industry for 30 years. I know my way around a car and what certain services should cost. I believe I also know what good, fair, and poor service is. I also respect the fact they are closed on weekends as the automotive industry could easily operate ²⁴⁄₇. Family first.

Mehta Motors is absolutely fantastic! I came here back in June after reading reviews online and talking with Shazad through e-​mail. I had quite a few issues with my car (possible oil leak, SES light on with emissions test coming up, passenger air bag malfunction, a vacuum leak, AND the spark plugs needed to be replaced), some of which needed to be fixed ASAP… Oh Boy! I was a bit worried not knowing what some of the issues were exactly so I had no prices to compare to. However, Shazad explained EVERYTHING to me while they worked on diagnosing and fixing the issues. He honestly made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole process. When I went to pick my car up Shazad spoke with me about a couple recommendations for upcoming service and I really appreciated the patience that he had in explaining everything. I will definitely come back here. Thank you so much!

I just moved to Elmhurst and needed to take my car to a mechanic. After looking around some Unilocal reviews I decided to try Mehta.
My older Mercedes had a gasket oil leak and a faulty alternator. The guys were able to diagnose it and then repair it using rebuilt parts to help me save some money.
I am very happy with the service and the value I got. Shazad also seemed like a nice and reasonable guy who is customer focused. I’ll definitely be back for future repairs and regular maintenance.

My dad recently took his X5 in for an oil change and vehicle check. He usually takes it to the dealership but I told him to go to Mehta Motors because they were a certified shop that had good reviews. The dealership quoted him around $ 260 for a vehicle check and an oil change. Mehta Motors only charged him $ 102 for the oil change and did the vehicle check free! On top of that they fixed an issue with the rear seatbelt and topped off the windshield wiper fluid for free too! We will definitely be coming back!

After yet another fantastic experience with them I feel compelled to write a nice review.
I started going here several years ago when I lived in the area, but even though I’ve moved into the city I still make sure I schedule my maintenance with Mehta Motors when I come out to the burbs. Here are a couple highlights of my experiences with them:
My AC and heater control stopped working a while back and I talked to a couple other mechanics who said they didn’t know how big of a job it would be to fix it, and that it might end up costing quite a bit. Because they seemed pretty certain it would be hard to fix and would cost significant money, I put it off for a long time. When getting something else tuned up at Mehta Motors I asked them about this AC/​heater control panel issue. Shazad instantly said he had a guess as to what it probably was, and in under 5 minutes they diagnosed it, showed me a rusted part, and told me it would cost about $ 20 for a new part! I was shocked that they were so familiar with issues that other professionals were clueless about. Their staff has a ton of knowledge and experience.
On a different trip when getting an oil change they told me they found a dead opossum wedged in a corner under the hood. I took a look at it and it was huge and pretty gross. They removed it for me for no charge, and we even had a good laugh about it. They could have easily made me feel bad for bringing this dead animal into their garage, but they genuinely made me feel at home and like part of the family. And they had a sense of humor about it when they printed my bill, adding a line for «Free One-​Time-​Only Dead Possum Removal With Oil Change».
This last story is probably the best. I was on a road trip to the mountains in Virginia, with very sparse cell phone service. At one point my car started getting extremely loud and I became concerned, especially since there weren’t any towns nearby. I really didn’t know what to do, so I called the guys I know and trust at Mehta Motors. Based on my description he had some clues, but then I sent him a cell phone video with sound and he somehow seemed pretty sure of what was wrong. He told me my exhaust flex pipe probably had a leak and that I should just make sure I don’t keep the car on while standing still or else the fumes would get into the cabin. He told me the engine is still working fine, though, so as long as I can get to a shop and don’t smell fumes coming into the cabin I’d be ok. The first shop I found after driving a very long time to the nearest town was a Walmart auto shop, and the mechanic told me they don’t do this kind of work, but he still looked at it and told me I blew a gasket and that driving on it was dangerous. However, I finally found a mechanic who could get under the car to take a look and he told me the exhaust flex pipe was leaking and he just needed to replace it for $ 150. So the crazy part of this story is that Mehta Motors was able to diagnose the problem on the phone better than a Walmart employee in person! And they did this for totally for free!
Over the years I’ve asked them about several issues with my car and they always give me all the information to make a good decision. They’ve saved me a lot of money by not up-​selling me on service I don’t need, and they actively tell me when I should not worry about something. I truly recommend this family owned business.

I recently moved to Elmhurst and needed a new mechanic. I checked the reviews of several places on Unilocal and decided to try Mehta due to their high reviews. I was not at all disappointed. I am a 27 year old woman and I do not know anything about cars, so it would be very easy to take advantage of me, but it was apparent from my first phone call that this was not going to happen. Everyone I spoke with seemed genuinely concerned about my vehicle and my concern about cost. After my vehicle was looked at, I was called and had the needed repairs explained to me. The man I spoke with spent over 10 min on the phone with me explaining what was wrong with my car and the different options available to me. My vehicle was repaired the same day it was brought in, and I ended up paying a lot less than I had anticipated. It is obvious that this is a business run with integrity and that they care about their customers. I have found my new mechanic.

Mehta Motors was recommended to me by a friend who always buys cars with over 100,000 miles on them, and is pretty frugal. I had been to a local Toyota dealer with my wife’s Sienna and was told it needed a new timing belt, and a lot of other work totaling about $ 2K.
I decided to give Mehta a try — we dropped the car off on Sunday night (there’s a key drop), and Shazad called mid Monday morning and said they’d looked the car over and the water pump should be replaced at the same time as the timing belt (it turned out it had a leak when they started the work), and they load-​tested the battery saying it was borderline.
We got the car back mid-​day on Tuesday (the supplier had sent them the wrong water pump) and it was $ 1150!
Based on my friend’s recommendation and our experience, I give it 5-​stars!

I brought my BMW 530i in for a belt and pulley issue. Service and quality was excellent. Price was better than expected. Great guys.

Alright, this is my second time using these guys and I’ve got to say that I’m most impressed with their customer service. They did a full break job for me (rotors, pads, brake fluid flush) and gave me a heads up on items that need work in the near future. The quality seems high and they do not talk down, act pushy or give you the hard sell. I would definitely recommend them to my friends/​family in S. Elmhurst.

I decided to check this place out after the BMW dealer wanted to charge a lot of money. The staff was pretty nice & seemed to care about the customers needs.
However, as a woman who knows nothing about cars, I think they may have gotten over as far as price. I guess the $ 110/​hr labor charge isn’t outrageous compared to a dealer but still high. I work in an occupation where I’m surrounded by former auto mechanics but didn’t find the time to ask questions. I paid for all of my brakes to be replaced & they said it was a 3hr job. Only to find out later, it shouldn’t have taken ½ the time. It’s unfortunate because I told the manager I was looking to get all my repairs done at this shop if they were reasonable & had fair prices. I’d even received a quote on another service & the cost was a little higher than the dealer! I was totally confused but soon realized I’d left the quote from BMW of Scahaumburg of $ 645 laying on the seat. So when he quoted $ 475 I should have been happy. But they failed to realize I had another quote from BMW in IN for $ 445 in my purse. Red flag.
My advice to anyone who’s like me & mechanically challenged. Ask around first or Google how long your job should take. No, I will not be back because the trust is gone.

Mehta is a family owned operation and it shows. Their service is exceptional and the quality is outstanding.
The family also owns the car wash next door as well. Ask them to run it though after servicing the car.

I’m not a regular at this place, but my one experience with them was excellent and they deserve a laudatory review.
The ECM on my Honda Civic died, and Mehta diagnosed the problem just before I was heading out on vacation. The control module is an $ 800 part when purchased new, and I just wanted to get the car running as cheaply as possible. They agreed to keep the car while I was gone and install a used ECM I had shipped to them via eBay (for about $ 40.00). The part arrived, and it didn’t work due to a minor difference I overlooked. They actually researched the correct part, emailed me the info I needed to locate another one, and agreed to keep the car for another week until it arrived. They installed it and it worked great, and I only paid about $ 400 total, which included some other work.
They really went above and beyond. Recommended.
