At Boonation Custom Cycles, my mission is to keep you rolling, and to do it at a fair price. How I do that is by putting old parts to re-​use. I don’t like wasting. Money, food, bike parts, doesn’t matter, put it to good use. I use old parts and and my wrench skills to keep your bike running like spring chicken.

I also build bikes from the Frame up. We find a frame and a style that fits you and what you do, then I add components to have the build tailored to what you do. Single speeds start at $ 250, geared bikes start at $ 350

Bring your bike to me, and I’ll help you love it like a 6 year old loves their bike. Freedom and empowerment live inside bikes. Bring your bike to life.

History

Established in 2015.

I officially registered my business with the city of Oakland on the 2nd of January this year. I’ve been wrenching on bikes for years. Never thought it could be my main gig, but apparently opening up your garage on a bike boulevard will do the trick. ;-)

I’m a midwest boy, with an English Degree from the University of Michigan. I moved to California after graduating and and worked 7 years at the East Bay famous, Urban Ore. After taking the Landmark Forum course in San Franciso, I became clear that I wasn’t happy any more in the position I was working. I shifted my focus to what made me happy and ended up opening this shop, and things have never been the same since.

Thanks to my neighbors, customers, and family, for being so supportive and encouraging through this process. Working/​playing/​living/​loving, it’s all the same for me these days.

Great service and quality.
I live down the street from Boonation and have walked/​biked by the Boonation shop many times, which always has had a friendly vibe, even as a passerby. A few weeks ago I decided it was time for a tune-​up and decided to try out the shop.
Dave and Jax were flexible about fitting my bike into their schedule so that I didn’t have to be without my bike for more than a day (I use it for commuting) and gave my bike a solid full tune-​up. I appreciated that they took the time to talk with me afterwards about any issues that they found that I should keep an eye on.
One example of their high level of service: My brakes had performed oddly on hills ever since replacing the pads a few months ago. The guys at Boonation paid special attention to my concerns, cleaning the rims, sanding the brake pads, etc, but even after the tune-​up the brakes weren’t behaving well. I brought it back and Dave changed out the pads for me, for no extra service charge (only materials) and now the brakes are back to normal. (We figure it must have been a fluke set of bad pads).
I mostly ride for commuting and getting around town, ~30 miles/​week, and my bike is now tuned up and rides beautifully. Thanks!

I brought my 6.5 year old bike to Dave at Boonation for a full tune-​up. It had rust on the chain and the chainrings. The front brakes squeaked and the back brakes needed adjusting. The front dérailleur needed help – the chain hopped gears sometimes. It wasn’t in terrible shape, but I ride my bike a lot (it has many thousands of miles on it) and it had been a long time since my bike had had a proper tune-​up. I got back a bike that rides like it’s brand new. It’s smooth and quiet; the gears shift seamlessly; my brakes are responsive and quiet; the rust is gone. Needless to say, Dave did a phenomenal job of tuning my bike up. I’ve gotten tune-​ups at other shops, where afterward I can only feel a slight difference in how it rides. This tune-​up, on the other hand, has made riding my bike a joy. Based on this tune-​up, I suspect Dave is both experienced and very conscientious about his work. He’s also a very nice guy. I recommend taking your bike to Boonation.

I am mainly a commuter bicyclist and I needed some basic service: brakes, dérailleur tuning, etc. I was scared off by the high starting prices at the big bike shops in town. I heard about Dave’s service by word of mouth, so I thought I would give it a try. I work during the day, but Dave was willing to coordinate by email to schedule an early evening service. Dave offers a quick tune up for a reasonable price, which does what you need, and not what you don’t. Dave was quick and courteous and made the tune-​ups while I waited. I recommend stopping by Boone bikes for your next tune-​up.

I live literally around the corner from this homemade shop and while I loved the idea of supporting my neighbor, I didn’t know what the quality would be like. Well David exceeded my expectations. Not only does the bike run beautifully now, he spent way more time on it than he was expecting and did not charge me any extra than what he originally quoted.
I am no bike expert, but watching him do his thing, I know that he knows his stuff and was incredibly thorough. SO COOL! Excited to continue supporting Boonation

After a few days of owning my very own Gavin Fisso Custom Cycle know that it is everything I wanted, and more.
I thoroughly enjoy riding it fixie style, but not free wheel, although the option is always there when I have the tools to flip. There is still a lot of learning in the future of my time with this cycle. Such as personalization and further «pimping».
For all out there who want to form a new friendship with a small town business thriving on local time, which should be all of you, this is the business – with Dave at the head– that you should have knowledge of!
The bicycle was equipped at selling with a near-​new frame, snazzy brakes and handlebars, a fair seat, pedals with foot straps and a smile from Dave.

Dave is the man! As a new person to the neighborhood in desperate need of a bike, it worked out pretty perfectly that there happened to be the neatest little bike shop and bike dude down the street that were happy to help in a warm and welcoming way. Before meeting, he was recommended to me by all my roommates and neighbors, everyone loves him and has good things to say about him and his products. Dave set up a super sweet custom bike for me and was thoughtful and generous throughout the whole process. So far the bike has been amazing and exactly what I was looking for. Also, everyone in this neighborhood knows/​loves Dave and thats pretty cool. So if you want to be cool, go to Dave. WOO YEAH DAVE!

I just met Dave Boone of Boonation Custom Cycles today. I called up the business and was delighted to be able to drop off my bike and go and get some food. Meanwhile Dave gave my bike a tune up. Dave is personal and easy to talk with and very straight forward about different options for improving your bike without being pushy in any way. He is quite humble and a pleasure to visit. I feel great supporting a local business owner who you can have a relationship with directly. i trust him, and recommend his bike services without reservation.

Dave is the best! I’ve been very grateful to have such a awesome bike mechanic in the neighborhood. He’s friendly, resourceful, honest, readily available, and affordable! I’ve been able to bring my bike in for a tune-​up on the same day and wait mere minutes for the service to be done (unheard of at most places, where you have to drop off and pick up days later).
I definitely recommend Boonation to all my friends for bike repairs and for reasonably priced bikes for sale.

Dave gave life to my first bike! It was an old bike that was abandoned in the apt basement that I lived in for years. He worked on it and worked on it until he made it perfect and cute! I love how he uses what he has and what the bike offers and makes it work, and work well! Every bike has its own personality and he gets it and respects it. Not everything is better new. Dave is like a bike fairy who gives life to old soul bikes, making the once loved bikes sparkle like they once did, but with more attitude! You can tell he loves bikes, riding them, fixing them, appreciating them. And I appreciate you for that! Thank you Dave for showing me my first bike and with it, a life with bike that I love!

As a kid my Dad loved to commute everywhere by bike. It’s pretty much how you describe him if you knew him. He won a bet in 2010 and bought a bike with his winnings, even though it had been years since he had ridden. He had it for about a year or less and he passed away in Jan of 2011. I tried riding it but it was too high for me even with the seat all the way down. My brother would use it, but he wrecked it by crashing into a curb. The bike pretty much sat for the past 2&half years. Became dirty and rusted. I moved to Oakland from Tracy in August, and I recently decided to bring his bike out here with me to commute to work. My cousin mentioned something about the bike shop down the street So when I finally bought the bike out here a week ago, I took it in. Dave did a wonderful job on the bike, and I didn’t really have to change a thing about the bike at all. He cleaned it up, tuned it up, made it possible for me to ride it, and sold me a set of lights for the bike all for a reasonable price. Like a really good price. I miss my dad, and being able to do something that my dad loved to do and use his bike to do it means the world to me. So thanks again Dave. Riding his bike make the rides that much more enjoyable. I hope you don’t mind that I went ahead and made a page for you. I hope it brings you lots of clients. Even though I’m sure that’s not even an issue for you.
