Michael Julien is the owner of Cypress Acupuncture. He is a Certified Sports Medicine Acupuncturist, herbalist and massage therapist specializing in orthopedic disorders and sports injuries.

Michael’s passion for people, their health and well-​being led him to pursue his Master’s Degree from the renowned Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. His experience as a lifelong athlete, as well as his own recovery from a chronic condition, inform his daily practice.

Michael’s love for his work translates into a thorough, calm and caring approach to patient treatment.

Michael has worked with UCSD RIMAC athletic training, Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego Seniors Clinic and the Pacific College Clinic.

For more than a year I was having trouble with my shoulder (tiny tear in my rotator cuff… I think). Kept ignoring the pain hoping it would get better, but it only got worse. By the time, I saw Michael my neck and shoulder were all in knots. I am happy to report, that after a few treatments, and some therapeutic exercises I feel great. I can recommend Michael highly, and also recommend not waiting too long to take action. There is no need to be a pain. Thank you, Michael!

I first met Michael when I had a torn MCL from a surfing accident. He helped me recover from that wound to the point that I am now 100%. He also helped me recently with a strained shoulder muscle; I could barely look over my shoulder and after a session with Michael I was almost back to normal. I have been experiencing pain for months in my arms. I was having trouble sleeping because of it and had difficulty dealing with my day to day responsibilities at work because of my chronic pain. I went to my regular doctor and they referred me to a physical Therapist. After 2 visits of torturing my arms and suggesting that my pain may just be stress I decided to try acupuncture.
Michael spent about an hour and a half with me and when I left I felt amazingly better. He was extremely knowledgeable and explained what was going on and was informative about what he was doing. It’s been 3 days since I had my appointment and I am still amazed at how great I feel. I would recommend him to anyone.

After enduring a back injury that kept me sidelined for over a month, I desperately tried everything at my disposal to get relief, as if it were a full time job, since I could not sit, stand, or sleep without moderate to severe pain.
Here is a list of things I tried: chiropractic, x-​ray, MRI, stretching, walking, yoga, foam rollers, paleo diet, vitamin c supplements, egoscue physical therapy, ice, heat, ultrasound, thai massage, books about pain, affirmations, reckless thrashing, and acupuncture.
Michael is the only practitioner who correctly diagnosed the problem, and he nailed it. By carefully listening to my symptoms, and applying exhaustive experience in muscular skeletal science as it relates to sports injuries and health, he somehow identified a stuck sacroiliac joint (SI joint) as the culprit. And even more impressive, he diagnosed the left side, which felt absolutely fine, as referring pain to the right side.
It took a few visits to dial in the diagnosis, and then one visit to treat the problem. 45 minutes after leaving his office, my joint released with an audible crack so satisfying that I could hardly believe the magnitude of what just transpired. Instantly, I bent down to incredulously touch the same toes that eluded my reach for a month.
Five days later now, and I already resumed full production at work, wiped out on a big wave, and jogged an embarrassingly slow mile.
I cannot thank Michael enough, and highly recommend his practice to anyone looking for injury relief or balanced health.

Michael is one of the finest medical professionals I have had the pleasure to with work with regarding health issues. I spent more than a year with severe ankle pain, which affected my ability to walk and run. I met with two board certificated orthopedic surgeons who both recommended the wearing of a walking boot, taking pain medication, and surgery for a bone spur. Since surgery was not a course of action I wanted to take, I was referred to Michael by another acupuncturist who said he would be able to help me. I met with Michael and he took the time to truly understand what was going on with my body. Surgeons only look at what they know best, but Michael took a holistic approach to my body and found that not only was my ankle in need of repair but my hips and back as well. After Michael prescribed a course of action that would include treatments and exercises, I was literally running again within 30 days with no ankle pain! I have never felt this good and I have been pain free for many month! Michael is not only a true professional in the field of Acupuncture; he is just a great guy that I highly recommend.

Mr. Julian fixed my arm pain in a single treatment. I had discomfort ratiating all down my right arm and he was able to not only explain my condition but gave excellent advice on the cause and effec. I came back for the next pain, a pulled mussel in my back. He not only fixed that pain, he gave me extra exercises to do to assist the long term strength of my leg, back and ankles. Nice job and with my activities: «I’ll BE BACK». It is nice to know he is there to adress the problem not your pocket book. Just a quick update on my return visits over the past year…5/7/2015 keep coming back for assessments and treatment on ‘as needed basis’…I play hard and get banged up on the little stuff that he address every time…
