Hospice of the North Coast Resale Shop

There is a review for this place that says «I can always find a treasure in a pile of crap and this place has a lot of crap». Very good and says a portion of what I think. There prices are really all over the place and you need to know your brands as some things are very overpriced, espcially a lot of their «hard goods» and some are good deals. Having said that I have gotten good brand names at reasonable prices including sterling jewelry, Madden shoes and more. Also they had Christmas stuff marked down 75% after the holiday and I got some good deals to pack away for next year.

I used to love this place. It was organized, and I’d find great items at low prices. Today, the employees weren’t attentive, and the prices have skyrocketed. Hello, it’s a THRIFT STORE with used items. $ 20 for a jacket? For that price, I can get a new one at Costco or a discount store. On top of that, they didn’t acknowledge my mom for a really long time today, and they wouldn’t let me buy an item that wasn’t priced (other places just make up a price). It’s so sad to see the good stores turn into «boutiques». This isn’t supposed to be full-​priced retail. I won’t be back.

I really used to love place but it has gone downhill. The prices have gotten higher and I just feel as though the general clothing selection has declined. The shop has always been small & it’s difficult to find anything good. The volunteers are sometimes preoccupied but generally polite. The store is well-​kept but it just isn’t the same.
A side note: They’re now asking people to bring their own bags, so be prepared.

I used to love this thrift shop. The prices used to be fair. In the last year the prices have soared. Plain old t shirts from Wallmart (used of course) are $ 5. What are they thinking? I can get a new one at the store for the same price. Thats just a small example of the new high prices.
I have gone to this thrift shop and donated for many years but I’ll be donating to other thrift shops and patronizing them from now on.
Too bad they have become too greedy. Hospice is such a good cause, but there’s others that are just as good out there.

This used to be a great shop a few years ago. Then they remodeled, and brought on a bunch of over-​bearing, snooty, unhappy, out-​of-​touch volunteers to set outrageous prices on items and treat customers like garbage. I stopped donating anything to them after they treated my elderly friend horribly regarding a blouse that was too small. She had donated so much to the store including furs, furniture, china and they treated her like a common criminal! Occasionally one will find a bargain but it is mostly crap priced as collectibles. While sifting through the crap, you have to have REALLY thick skin to withstand the cold, suspicious, snotty attitude of most of the employees. Occasionally one will find a gem of a volunteer but I think they quickly get rid of the sweet ones or the nice ones quit after seeing the crappy treatment given to customers. Longstanding customers and new customers alike, even people who donate items regularly get treated like garbage in that store. I try to go back once in a while to give them another chance but too often they blow it with some rude malcontent treating me or someone else poorly. Really too bad. Fortunately we have another in the area, the assistance league and they don’t have much but the people are wonderful so I love to shop there.

Stopped in today after shopping at home goods. WOW, what a bunch of unhappy, unpleasant and rude women working there. Never again…

Looking for a good laugh? Put on your thickest skin when you walk into this over priced thrift store. The rudest, snottiest women in town work at this place. Their «looking down on you» attitudes, through their wrinkled turned up old noses and high powered, owl eyed spectacles, coupled with their downright MEAN words are beyond belief! It is so over the top, it is actually hilarious! WHO do these women think they are? I’ve been to this place several times. I always walk out– just laughing my fanny off. They should change the name of this place to the «Mean Thrift Shop.» Yes, these women go out of their way to be mean and snotty. But these women come across as just totally pathetic. They are so downright nasty, they’d make great material for a good stand up routine! Honestly, I have NEVER been to a worst thrift shop with «volunteer employees» that are this sour and rotten. They are so mean and rotten, they could become a runaway HIT, in a well written skit on SNL! Yes, they are like the fictional villain characters from a children’s fairy tale, like the wicked Queen from Snow White or the witch from Sleeping Beauty! Beyond the incredible black humor of the wrinkled up volunteer employees, I have found few square deals at this over priced place. Case in point– I found a cute USED blouse on the half off rack. It was marked $ 7.00. Took it to the counter to purchase. The wicked witch refused the half off! In fact– she didn’t even mention it! Then, when I told her I didn’t want it, she rudely said– «Well? What did you think it said? ONE dollar?» Hahaha!!! This is the kind of crap you get from this place. From the time you walk in, till you walk out– that «attitude» and the bad «air» just floats and hangs in this place. It is astounding! Try to spark a conversation with these women, then sit back and enjoy the show! Loads of fun and laughs!

VERY overpriced for a thrift store. The books use to be 2.00 now they have raise to 3.00. You can get new stuff at the same price.

I am not a big thrift store person but I have to admit I love this place. They higher quality stuff at a fair price. Bought some really nice hand blown glass goblets for $ 3 each and felt like I stole them. Nice quality clothing that doesnt feel gross when you touch it. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I really like this place. I’ve been in several times and picked up a few little treasures. I thought the pricing was fair. They are providing money for a good cause, not subsidizing cheapskate shoppers. I’d say some of the shoppers should lighten up and quit being grumpy. I donate a lot of things to this shop to support their cause and am pleased to see my donated items out for sale at a decent price. The staff taking in the items are appreciative and I have been treated nicely by the cashiers as well.

VERY overpriced for a thrift store. Almost pristine when you walk in, and not a whole lot to choose from, considering the space available for merchandise. I love thrift stores, but this felt like a museum, and the prices were ridiculous for used items. Not everyone is looking for a set of china— loosen up the reins on whoever’s choosing-​and-​pricing your stuff, and give this place a little sense of fun!

I agree with a couple of the reviews here. A few years ago this place seemed reasonable but now they have overpriced merchandise. That is if it has a price on it. I went to purchase a book over the weekend and the conversation between Mr & Mrs Grumpy (volunteer cashiers) was well there was a price on it… essentially accusing me of taking it off. So, while the woman went back to find a price; I walked out of the store. The average thrift store doesn’t even price books they just have a price for paperbacks, hardcovers, etc. The customer before me wrote a check and they gave her a hassle about that her identification i.e. Mrs Grumpy tells Don Grumpy she wouldn’t take the check if she were him. Also, how are they going to mandate people not talk on their cell phones? I didn’t see anyone shaking their Depends to Frank Sinatra; however, I thought the incessant off key whistling by Mr. Grumpy was quite irritating. The bottom line if you want to sell overpriced merchandise look for Mr & Mrs Rogers to volunteer not these unhappy people. Based upon the cause you would think you could be treated a little better.

Have to agree with Ronald D. Mostly overpriced and miscategorized mdse (i.e. «designer») with less than friendly volunteers. I don’t know why people go there or pay the high prices. I’ve seen worn items there from Target and Ikea with resale prices higher than new! (But you see that in a lot of thrift stores.) I appreciate that the store supports a good cause and I’d like to support their efforts, but unfortunately, I don’t want to shop there.
And an aside to the person who talks about painting over an existing canvas. Most people don’t know this, but it’s actually against the law for anyone, other than the artist, to deface, change or destroy an original piece of artwork. Of course, artwork gets destroyed all the time, and probably with good reason. I understand the desire to recycle someone else’s canvas, but if you think there’s any chance whatsoever that the artist was serious, or that someone might actually buy this work because they like it and will enjoy it, I’d pass. And who knows, it could be a lost master work worth a small fortune. Googling the artist’s signature is always a good idea.

I am a thrift store junkie. I can always find a treasure in a pile of crap. This place has a lot of crap. With that being said… I have many treasures from here. I come here about once every two weeks and they always have a replenished stock of crap! I love it!
I will admit that there are things that are priced a few bucks over the «thrift shopper» limit. But, those are the obvious things. I don’t go for those. I go for the «diamond in a rough» approach. Example: buy a framed painting with a really cool frame, ditch the painting (only if its really ugly) and replace with a new piece. Now you’ve got a sweet framed piece of work!
Ok, enough of spilling my tricks! Go and find your own stuff.

During this time of economic uncertainty we all must cut back. We have to make sacrifices, we have to think about whats right. I believe in the simple things, things that smell of another persons musty closet.
There was once a time I lived and breathed moth balls. Sadly, I have slowed my addiction. I love a good thrift store, but thrift stores are always like cheap hookers. They start off cheap and easy, but the next thing you know they become a victim of their own success. Their prices go up and the next thing you know you have the worst case of Chlamydia you have ever had.
And what is with the rules? I can’t stand the rules. If you are caught talking on your cell phone in the store, the ancients that run the place follow you with a sign that has a picture of a cell phone crossed out. Why the need for Hieroglyphics?
If I am forced to watch the matriarchs of the Hospice shake their depends to Frank Sinatra tunes, then I deserve the right to answer my phone.
