Description

Specialties

For more than 40 years, in the Family Courts throughout San Diego County, I have negotiated and litigated prenuptial agreements, divorce issues and post-divorce modifications. I handle domestic violence, child custody — including «move-away,» property and debt division, child and spousal support, who gets the home, who gets the business, and pension and 401K rights. I am sensitive to the needs of my clients and their children, especially as a divorced parent myself, and former president of Big Brothers and Sisters of San Diego County.

Additionally, I have vast experience in Juvenile Court, both with dependency and juvenile delinquency cases, as well as step-parent adoptions.

Representing local businesses is our other area of emphasis. We form corporations, LLCs, and joint ventures. We handle the purchase and sale of businesses. Some of what we typically do is negotiate leases, write buy-sell agreements and employee handbooks, handle disputes with vendors and customers, and defend ADA claims. Some clients for decades own local enterprises and others do business throughout the world, such that I have even been asked to travel overseas to negotiate contracts for one of my clients that do business internationally.

The depth of my experience emanates from my early years defending serious criminal cases — homicides, burglary, bank robbery, battery, drug dealing, child molest … and less serious cases, such as DUI and petty theft. Thus, I am comfortable and effective in court.

History

Established in 1977.

After 3 ½ years as a trial attorney for Defenders, Inc, in San Diego County [the predecessor to a public defender]. Thereafter, I began «private practice» in a succession of partnerships: Avery & Fuhrman; Adkins, Fuhrman & Holthaus; and then The Corona Firm, LLP. With my experienced staff, the Office of William R Fuhrman has operated in Encinitas for more than 15 years.
