Here at Maui Surf Academy beginner and first time surfers are our specialty. Whether you’ve tried it a few times or never at all it’s no problem. We can accommodate surfers of any level and personalize classes to suit your learning needs with beginner through advanced training in traditional surfing and stand-​up paddle surfing. We are a licensed, permitted, and insured surf school. Our safety certified, patient, and skilled instructors will take you from the sand to the sea and be with you every step of the way. We are so confident in what we do that if you don’t stand up and ride a wave the lesson is on us!*

*Refunds will only be given providing the student gave it a fair try for the duration of the lesson and is in reasonable shape

History

Established in 2010.

My name is Matt Allen and I am the owner and head instructor at Maui Surf Academy. I have just recently opened my own surf school here in Encinitas, San Diego, CA. The business may be new here, but I have been teaching on Maui and Kauai, HI since 2002 for Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy and Titus Kinimaka’s Hawaiian School of Surfing. I love being in and around the ocean as much as possible and spreading my love of surfing and spreading the aloha spirit that was taught to me by my mentors Kimo Kinimaka and Titus Kinimaka. Surfing is and age old sport with so much rich heritage and I hope to do it justice by passing on what I’ve learned.

My name is Matt Allen and I was born in San Diego, CA. I have been in the ocean since i can remember, bodysurfing and bodyboarding until I started surfing at about 8. I have been surfing for about 22 years now everywhere from Cali to Hawaii to Bali to Mexico and more. I have been privileged to teach surfing for near a decade now in Hawaii and San Diego.
