Description

Specialties

Philly’s Best uses only the freshest meat, cheeses and traditional Philly-style ingredients to prepare our hoagies and cheesesteak sandwiches including premium Boar’s Head® meats. Most importantly, we use genuine Amoroso® rolls which are shipped directly from Philadelphia. After you try one of our sandwiches we are sure that your experience will give you an authentic taste of Philadelphia. Enjoy a Franks® Black Cherry Wishniak or a bottle of Pennsylvania Dutch® Birch Beer and Wise® chips with your cheesesteak or hoagie and don’t forget to finish off your meal with Philly’s own famous Tastykakes®. Then you’ll understand with our traditional Philly-style food, atmosphere and attitude, why others may try but only we can deliver Philly’s Best!

History

Established in 1992.

Native Philadelphians, Bob and Andrea Levey started Philly’s Best to bring the authentic cheesesteak to California. While he was in the Navy, Bob was stationed in San Diego and constantly found himself craving a real Philly sandwich while being offered only poor imitations. After 3 years of extensive research, Bob and Andrea opened their first Philly’s Best Authentic Cheesesteak and Hoagie Shop in 1992. Starting with that first store in Fountain Valley, CA, Philly’s Best now has 22 locations — all serving the only REAL Philly cheesesteaks and hoagies to southern Californians. In 2008, southern Californians returned the favor by voting Philly’s Best cheesesteaks as the Best of LA®, securing their spot as the ONLY place in southern California to get authentic Philly cheesesteaks, hoagies and chicken sandwiches.

The cheesesteak sandwich was created in 1930 by the Olivieri family of South Philadelphia. On nearly every corner in Philadelphia there is a pizza or sandwich shop that makes cheesesteaks and hoagies. Philadelphians will argue at length about which shop makes the best cheesesteak. Everyone has their favorite. Pat’s King of Steaks, Lee’s, Geno’s, Jim’s, Steve’s Prince of Steaks, Tony Luke’s, Dellasandro’s to name a few favorites. At each shop, the cheesesteak is made a little differently contributing to the fierce loyalty shown by their customers. Today, many places outside of Philadelphia claim to serve an authentic Philadelphia Cheesesteak. But as any true Philadelphian knows, it’s all about the attitude and the roll!
