During the summer, the amphitheater at Kit Carson Park presents an entertainment series featuring productions from local theater companies. These are family-friendly musicals in a venue that really encourages a theatrical experience for those of all ages.(The only problem being the late start time — an 8pm curtain is an ill-fit for kids). What is great about the venue is that there is ample seating and a lawn at the back(with full-view of the stage) perfect for picnicking beforehand and letting the kids run their wiggles out. Patrons can bring their own food in, but there is also a snack bar and sometimes BBQ vendors. Prices are reasonable. The snack bar sells insect repellant(see below, you’ll need it). The shows will obviously vary by theater company. I have seen 3 productions from Patio Playhouse at the Amphitheater and they have all been amazing. The most recent, Music Man, ran for a month & the talent exceeded expectations. I would suggest bringing a cushion to sit upon(the benches are hard) and bug spray(the bright lights attract every mosquito in Escondido).
