Squeezebox is a boutique style, thematically based used book and music store. You will be seduced by the selection each visit. Our LP, 45 and CD selection is sure to offer up some tantalizing aural treats as well as a good old-​fashioned touchy feely flashback.

Sinking under the weight of those heavy records? Need to clear out some books for your new knickknacks? Bring by a bundle or a bag full to sell any time. We are interested in buying all shapes, sizes and categories of books and music from Alpaca breeding to Tuvan throat singing and all the popular inbetweenies. I felt like going on a little adventure to record shop, and found myself at Squeezebox Books & Music. I’m telling you, if this place was closer to where I live, I’d be a regular customer here. It’s a cute place with nice staff. Their records were at good prices, and I’m kicking myself for not picking up more! Their selection of books is small, but they have cool stuff. I picked up a few books, a record or two, and a few DVDs there. I found The Silence of the Lambs on Criterion there for $ 2, and you can’t beat that! This place is such a cool little gem, I highly recommend it. I can’t wait for my next trek out to Evanstan so I can go here again.

I get to go to Chicago for business 3 or 4 times a year & this place is always on my list to hit. Perfectly curated little shop of books & music. I am always able to stumble across a few things of interest. Prices are fair for a big city & the staff is always helpful. They have a great (but small) selection of art & photography books at fair prices. All & all — small but worthy.

First time I’ve felt compelled to create a Unilocal account just to leave a review. Squeezebox has an awesome collection of new and used vinyl, books, and magazines for really reasonable prices. Cozy little store but I could spend hours perusing. Tim is a great guy who’s clearly passionate and knowledgable about his stock, and I always manage to leave with something I’m excited about. I’m always happy to support this business (especially after the closing of 2nd Hand Tunes), and their selection of recent releases is growing all the time. 5 stars.

So cute I want to give this place a big giant… wait for it… squeeze! Pete D was the one who initially enticed me to check this place out, and I finally made it in. And, I’m so glad I did, because if it wasn’t for today’s stop, I wouldn’t be the proud owner of the Charlie Brown Dictionary that I snagged for $ 5! I LOVE used book stores!
Kids books like Big Nate mixed with classic Hardy Boys, Little Golden Books, and who could mix the Moving Pictures section or the *Mies van der Prose* section. Everything in this shop seems perfectly thought out and well organized.
Aside from the books, they also have a generous selection of vinyl LPs.
The shop is tiny, maybe 800SF, but you’ll be able to easily navigate your way around because everything is well labeled. A few comic books, some old classic Playboys and more.
Worth the stop. Something for everyone.

What a warm place with nice things that are always in fantastic condition. I mostly buy LPs and they’re in superb shape with reasonable prices.
And the staff is just sickly kind and friendly.

Good prices on new and used vinyl of a nicely curated selection in a clean and well organized spaced for the size. There’s a lot to look at and pick through here! From 1940’s and 50’s editions of classic books with amazing artwork to copies of the science fiction and fantasy magazine HEAVY METAL.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend trading in your vinyl here due to my experience today. Brought in 7 LP’s, one of which was a still sealed in mint condition item that easily goes for $ 30 and two other LP’s that easily are found fetching $ 10 – 20 used in the VG+ to NM condition they were, and I was offended by the $ 8 store credit offer. When asked how the person ended up with this price, her answer was uninformed and weak at best. I pressed and asked did she realize the value of the sealed album. Her response was disappointing. Maybe if Tim was there my experience would’ve been different?
Instead, I took my business to LAURIE’S PLANET OF SOUND and got literally 3x more than the offensive offer Squeezebox made me in store credit – and left there not feeling like I was a customer being taken advantaged of.

An amazing treasure trove of vinyl, and books from all sorts of eras and genres. Tim is a smart and friendly guy, with extensive knowledge of many esoteric subjects.
This is where you need to come and get the hard to please book lover their gift. I will definitely be back to Squeezebox.

Squeezebox has a great collection of records and old books. The owner is really good at picking out technical books that show things ‘the way they were’ – fascinating stuff. I’d like to see a little bit more mathematical texts in there, but that’s a pretty specialized niche, and probably asking too much. One of my very good friends is in here a lot more than me, and I’m always jealous of the books he picks out. Plus, said friend won a raffle for a couple tickets to a really great jazz concert, so everything about here has been really great!
The record selection is perfect, too – love seeing some of the old classics here, along with a huge stack of very inexpensive records which are all in great condition.

Wow. I just discovered this place today. It is charming and awesome, and has a great selection. I’m a big horror guy, and this place was full of treasures. 1st edition Stephen King hardback for $ 3.99. Signed Clive Barker book for $ 10. And the best selection of Arkham House stuff in, I think, Chicagoland… at least since Bookman’s Alley has started to go kaput.
Small, but it’s definitely worth your time, check this place out.

Really a great place to browse for books, music, and movies. The selection is very eclectic and interesting, so it is intriguing to see what categories of books have been set out — the owner says he changes them daily based on his whim. The prices are very reasonable for books in such good condition. The owner was even such a nice guy, he gave a customer two quarters to feed the meters… If you are in the Evanston area, definitely give this place a look — this is exactly the kind of local shopping that needs to stick around.

Squeezebox Books & Music is a great bookstore in Evanston! The bright green and seductive black décor lured me through the door, while the wide variety of books, music, and media made me happy I stopped in. Shop owner, Tim Peterson’s keen eye for the witty and quirky makes for an always interesting shopping experience.
