Fred’s Appliance & Refrigeration Service

We rent a home where the owner called out Fred for repair of our stove. He was clean in appearance and very informative. He knew what the problem was and immediately contacted the owner. The heating element had gone out. He was able to get the part and had the oven repaired later that day. He was honest and quoted a very fair price. If I had been the owner, I would have been pleased with the cost. He cleaned up his area afterward and one would not have known he was there. It was very refreshing. I would recommend Fred to anyone, and in fact, I have done so.

Have had Fred come out on several occaisions to help keep my appliances in good working order. Long time been servicing stuff for my wifes extended family as well. Fred is a great guy and knows what he is doing. Very happy to have him as a service provider. Makes house calls on short notice. 5 stars!

Based on the star ratings and that they’re just a couple miles from me, I called and left a message asking him to repair my refigerator. (Yes, I spoke very slowly and repeated, per his recording).
It’s been a week now and no return call, I think my ice cream has melted…
GE came out the day after I scheduled the repair online. Expensive, but they had the part and my new ice cream stays frozen.

He was definitely cheaper than having GE repair service to come out. He was timely. He lost one star only because he dropped the door of the oven and it scratched two of our kitchen cabinet doors. We’re pretty sure he noticed it but he didn’t say anything about it. We felt bad that he dropped it because he had a backache, but he shouldn’t have leaned a metal object against the wood cabinets.

If you have an appliance in need of repair… look no further.
Finding someone to repair major mechanical items is always a bit of a scary venture since you hear so many stories about those who basically amount to crooks with horrible service, and selling you things you don’t need…
You will not find that to be the case with Fred! Our oven stopped working. Error message on the keypad indicated the electronic keypad that operates the clock/​timer/​oven/​etc. was not responding. I found Fred’s Appliance svc on Unilocal and gave him a try. He said he’d be here between 9:00 and 9:30am the following day, and arrived just before 9:20. OK… points there for actually showing up when you say you will. (Hello — take note Comcast, PG&E, etc.) Once he started investigating our problem, he let me know that the keypad would need to be replaced. He then said he was afraid it was going to be bad news because he knew it was an expensive part, but had to check on the price when he got back to his shop. (Since it only took him a couple minutes to see the problem, and he ‘hates giving people bad news’… he didn’t even charge me for the service call! OK… more points.)
Within two hours Fred called me back and told me, «I’m afraid I do have bad news. Between the parts and labor, it would cost so much that I think you’d be better off just buying a new oven.» That’s right… So instead of trying to convince me to pay a few hundred dollars and then later charging me even more — like some places would do — Fred just came out and said… ‘It’s not worth it’. He then proceeded to recommend the type of oven he thought I should look for to replace ours with an ‘if I were buying, that’s what I would get’ recommendation.
So, if you’re following along — Fred showed up on time, determined the problem, called back promptly and gave me an honest assessment, and made no money from any of it.
Fred — you will be the one we call the next time we are in need of appliance repair!

Fred has done appliance repairs in both my duplex rental and my own home. His prices are more reasonable than any other appliance repair company that I’ve used. He knows exactly what he’s doing. If you’re looking for good old fashioned service from a small local businessman that’s been helping people for a long time, Fred is your guy. I recommend Fred to everyone including my friends and family. Five stars.
