Penfield Service Center

I’ve taken two cars to be repaired there (a couple of times). They do go good work and their prices are reasonable. They complete the work in a timely fashion.
They do try to oversell a little (like saying you need new tires when maybe you don’t) but I’m not overly concerned about that — just be aware of that.
I took off one star because they scratched up my alloy wheels when replacing the summer with winter wheels. I would have liked to see a little more care.

I support the opinions of most of the other posters here regarding the high quality of the service provided by the folks at Penfield Service Center. I admit that I am a «shadetree mechanic» and tend to be a bit more of a skeptic when it comes to independent mechanics (stated another way «I think I know more than I really do!»), but Bobby and his team met or exceeded expectations for professionalism, quality and value, with a special acknowledgement to Paul for keeping my informed and apprised of the progress. I also admit that my car is one of those overpriced German sport SUVs that just came out of warranty

I have gone here for years! Everyone that works here are friendly, straight shooters and thorough professionals. They identify the problem and let you know the most cost effective and safest way to fix it. Luckily they do such a great job — I don’t have to come back often!!! It saves me time and money and my family wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I am new to the area, and also I have not driven in 6 years (living in Chicago does that), but I can say with out a doubt the gentlemen at Penfield are amazing at there job! They fixed my car quickly, accurately and charged me appropriately for their services. My car runs even better than it did before my accident.
I can’t not speak enough to their work or their character. If you need work in the Fairfield or Bridgeport area you cannot get better!

This is a great place to get your vehicle fixed. They do great work and they are always friendly and easy to deal with. Ive had a lot of work done over the last couple of months on all three of my vehicles and the only thing i can say is that the work got done. Done right, priced fair and done when they said it would be done. With that said i highly recommend these guys. O and heres one that would never happen at a dealership i called the owner the other day in regards to getting a keyless remote added to my truck alarm cause i lost one, not only did he tell me to bring it down right then and there when i got there they jumed right on it and heres the kicker the guy tossed me my remote working and said have a nice day this ones on me. Everyone else wanted an appointment and 80 to 100 buck just to learn the unit in. Side note i dont know if they sell the remotes there. I got mine online but they did install it for me. Great job guys.

My whole family has gone here for years. It isn’t the cheapest option around, but they do a thorough job. They also use more premium parts, which you pay more for, but at least they are high quality. I’d rather pay a little more and have a car that is safe and well maintained.

My husband and I have been taking our cars here for years… We love Penfield!
The guys who work here are wonderful… trustworthy, upfront, accommodating, friendly and knowledgable… Couldn’t be nicer and they know cars! Their prices are extremely fair and they have never once performed a service that they didn’t run by me first in terms of price and necessity. I would never go anywhere else! Highly recommend them!

Paul was easy to deal with and great right from the start. Had taken car to another place where it sat for a week, with no work done. They diagnosed it and it still sat. Brought to Penfield SC and within 2 hours, diagnosis — done!, worked on it and was driven away! Way to go… great, reliable and professional service. Thank you!!!

Rip-​off. I took my car here when I was attending Fairfield University after my engine light came on one morning. They completely took advantage of the fact that I was a young female college student who didn’t know much about cars and charged me an asinine amount of money to «repair» the problem; well as I was driving away from the Service Center, my engine light came back on! I brought it home to the dealership where I originally purchased the car and they told me that Penfield had done more harm than good! The dealership then fixed the problem for about a quarter of what Penfield had charged me. I learned the hard way. Stay far away!

This place was great. My husband and I are from out of town and had car problems and they were able to take us right away and help us. The staff is super knowledgable and tried to help us find the best and cheapest solution for our problem. I highly recommend Penfield… These guys are trustworthy, honest, passionate and very resourceful. So glad we stumbled across this establishment!

You’d never know if from looking at the unfiltered reviews on this page, but Penfield Service has a solid reputation and plenty of very satisfied customers. I should know because I recently switched to Penfield based on strong word of mouth recommendations from a wide variety of trusted local friends and business associates.
Owner Bob Trez has a direct, tell-​it-​like-​it-​is approach that might be off-​putting to some people, but it’s one that I found to be both refreshing and candid.
Knowing ahead of time that my aging Subaru was in need of more than just a simple tune-​up and oil change, I brought it in with the simple request that they perform the «essential» safety-​related work and nothing more (I already had some idea of what that would entail).
Because I plan on upgrading to a newer car within the next few months I wasn’t keen on putting any more money than I have to into the Subaru now.
When it came time to pick up the car, Bob explained to me in detail what they did, what they didn’t do, and how long I could expect to continue safely driving the car before I’d have to address the outstanding repair issues. The price was right in line with what I was quoted and expected to pay. No surprises!
Based on that experience alone I’ll continue to use and recommend these guys.

Once again, I return to look at the Penfield ratings and all of the 5 star and more recent reviews have been «filtered». Unilocal,wtf, seriously.
We started going to Penfield about 5 years ago, before Unilocal filtered out all good reviews. At that time they were at around a 4-​star rating. I don’t think I’ve ever been ripped off here and the guys are always nice. Their quotes have been very close to the final price, and we’ve come for oil changes, other «rattles» with our pickup truck, and it’s currently in for 70K service now.
They are good, they are convenient, and they have been straight forward with me.

I had a great experience here! I needed an exhaust pipe fixed and a previous place I brought my 98 civic to told me I would have to replace the cats. The place in Danbury quoted me $ 1,000! My good friend recommended Penfield and he didn’t steer me wrong. Not only was Paul friendly and understanding, but he was honest and straightforward with what my car needed. It didn’t need a new cat as the previous place said, and the repair was just a new pipe that was less then a third of the cost of what I was quoted in Danbury.
Paul and the guys also fit me right in for the day and got the job done in a timely fashion:) My car is running great and I couldn’t be happier! I can’t wait to recommend Penfield to all my friends!!!

We have been to Penfield Service Center a number of times for oil changes, tires and complex repairs. They have been diligent and have done great work. We have appreciated their commitment to service and the way they stuck to their estimated price.

I live in Fairfield and I actually went to Penfield for several years – mostly oil changes. I let them rip me off once for a battery even though I knew it was way over priced. I figured it was worth the convenience of them being nearby.
No more. When I needed a serious maintenance performed I asked them for a quote and it was just about double what I ultimately paid elsewhere for good quality work. The owner Bob pretends to be nice, but he really isn’t. I learned no one there is trustworthy. I will never go back there again. Big time ripoff.

This place specializes in scamming customers.
I brought my vehicle in for service here a few weeks ago after my check engine light flashed on. I was told by an oil change attendant at a Valvoline that it was nothing to worry about but wanted to get some peace of mind from an expert. Instead, I was told that the ‘minor issue’ was actually a series of extremely serious problems with my car. I won’t bother with the long litany of repairs that they told me were incredibly urgent but I will volunteer that the total price tag was an impressive $ 1500 (including a warning that if I drove my car more than a few more miles I would cause an irreversible amount of costly damage). After suffering from a bit of sticker shock, I reappraised the situation and took my car to SKF Auto in New Haven (after reading their glowing Unilocal reviews) to get a second opinion – despite the hyperbolic warnings from Penfield that I would melt my car into a puddle of hydrocarbons if I drove it much further.
You all know how this story is going to end. SKF Auto told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my car’s engine other than a minor quibble with the evap system that causes no damage/​no performance issues. Further, they actually diagnosed a serious issue with my car (a fail in my anti-​lock breaks) that Penfield had missed (or maybe had not told me about because this part can only be serviced by a dealer). Regardless, let my cautionary tale be a warning to the rest of you. Do not go here. They will lie to you while grinning as wide as the Cheshire cat.

Awful, just awful. Seems each negative reviewer is attacked… should tell everyone something. I can’t wait to see how I am attacked for simply sharing my story.
How about $ 335+ to repair a cig lighter power outlet? They called ahead of time to tell me they’d have to take off the console to get at the cig lighter wires. Having done it myself previously (a 10 minute job at most), I said «sure, go ahead».
Took them 2 ½ hours (supposedly) at $ 129/​hour to «solder wires». The good news… they said, «we didn’t charge you for the new wires». Wow, what a break!
First (and last) time there. I’m going to be sure everyone I know in Fairfield (and hundreds more I don’t know) are aware of this experience/​POV. I am SO angry!!!
