I got my first mani/pedi here before my wedding 18 mos ago. I wasn’t blown away, but it was nice enough that my mother and I returned this weekend. We both made appointments for gel manicures, but this time I was very disappointed. The layers of polish were applied unevenly and messily, with a large gap above my cuticle. And my cuticles themselves look dry and unkempt just four days later. Points for atmosphere and cleanliness(clearly what you’re paying extra for), but I will never return.

The only place I will go for a pedicure in KC. It’s clean and always very relaxing and quiet. Their polishes are all free of the nasty stuff you don’t want in your polishes and they use new tools on every client. It’s pricier than most places but worth every penny!

Super clean, very slick and contemporary décor. I was impressed with the layout and design of this salon. It’s a little different in that they make their own polishes, so the color choices are kind of limited. For example, I wanted a very light pink with some kind of shimmer and there was nothing like that. What I really liked was the cleanliness. Very, very sanitary and chemical-free, which is very important to me. I went on a Tuesday and it was so quiet– very empty. My tech didn’t talk much but she was really efficient and thorough. I would definitely go back. It’s a bit pricier than most pedicures I have had but that’s because they give you the rest of your polish.

I was really excited when the bride I was in a wedding with selected Hoopla for our bridesmaids outing the day before her wedding. I had been wanting to try them out since they are down the street from my house and I loved the concept of cleanliness and getting to keep the polish. The bride had made reservations for us well in advance and they knew it was a bridal party but when we arrived the customer service was flawed from the get go. The person checking us in was kind of put off by the large # of us and refused to let the bride get a gel manicure saying the manager had told her only standard manicures were allowed because they were so busy. She was so rude I figured maybe she didn’t realize this was a special occasion and asked if maybe an exception could be made just for the bride… she quickly and rudely said no way. I figured maybe we would see a lot of other people come in while we were there but it was exactly the opposite. Literally one other person was there and they were so incredibly slow with our services we were there for over 2 hours so I can be sure it wasn’t a rush of people coming in. In fact, after my mani/pedi was done the technician couldn’t leave the place fast enough to go home. The nail techs were perfectly nice and I really love the atmosphere but I just can’t justify spending so much for a mani/pedi especially since literally the next day my nails started to chip on both my fingers and toes. It was also very disappointing for the bride whose nails also were flawed and she had to try and figure out how to get a new manicure on her honeymoon… something that wouldn’t have happened had they given her the gel manicure she needed and they clearly had time for!

The place was clean and cute and I would come back. However, I didn’t love the service. Went in with a bridal party to get our nails done and they refused to give any of us gel manicures because it was«super busy and they would take too long». They even refused to give the bride a gel manicure which I think was a huge flaw on their part, especially since there was only one other client in the place the entire time we were there! The staff seemed peeved that we were even there! I am not writing this place off entirely… Loved the ambiance… And we walked out with pretty toes and nails!

The pedicures here are top notch but you will pay more for one. The tools are all sanitized before each client, you get to keep your polish for touch ups and the extra TLC for your feet/legs from the service provider are definitely a great reason to spend a little more. If you can spare another 15 minutes, be sure to have a chair massage from Rebekah. She’ll let you melt away and disappear within seconds of placing your face in the cradle. I cannot imagine a better way to let your toes dry! Be aware that this is not a «chop shop» walk in nail place. It is more upscale and they do pay more attention to detail(and cleanliness) than your neighborhood nail salon.

I was extremely disappointed with my last visit to hoopla. My manicurist messed up my thumb nail 3 times and it was so goopy and messy by the time I left there was no way it was going to dry. Online they say that the hoopla manicures are 30 minutes. That is completely false. Every time I am in I am there for about an hour. I don’t mind the hour but if you say 30 minutes and it runs 30 minutes longer, thats a problem. They should consider changing their advertising.

I went for the first time ever ti Hoopla, and was pretty amazed with the services I got. The shop was very clean and nice. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a very friendly receptionist who right away ofer me a drink why I waited(because I was early). Then this very clean and well dressed girl with a great personality and very pretty smile came to greet me for my pedicure and shellac mani. First was the pedicure which was the best I have ever received(and trust me I have had many), the massage was great and she took her time to make it very relaxing and pleasant experience. Then was the shellac mani another great service as well, she went above and beyond to make sure my nails looked great and exactly what I wanted. The other young ladies working in the saloon that day came by and complimented and introduced themselves it was just a truly great experience and environment. I am a cosmetologist and owned my own shop a few years ago and I would be very proud and honored to have any of those young ladies working for me. My young lady this day was Britane’ whom I would most defiantly recommend to anyone in the future as she is a very pleasant, sweet, young lady with a great personality and smile whom you can tell loves her job as it shows in the service she gives. Thank you so much for the wonderful time and service, you gave me Britane’ and the other Hoopla ladies. You can bet I will be back to you Britane’.

I noticed that many of these reviews were written not long after Hoopla initially opened its doors. You have to give any new business some time to work out the kinks. That being said, I met the owners(one was VERY pregnant & due any day, which explains her absence & any resulting pressure on her biz partner thereafter) soon after and they were lovely. Still are. And the main front desk manager, Kaylee, has come to know me by name and is always going out of her way to address my concerns and try to fit me in. My favorite massage therapist is Rebekah. She knows where I store my stress and she is kind and always makes sure I am comfortable and the pressure is appropriate. I’ve also had several manis and I think 2 pedis there and was very pleased. What I love is that when I walk in – everything feels/smells/looks and is SUPERCLEAN(no chemicals in their polishes, no jet tubs harboring mold, mildew, bacteria of all kinds), and no powerful odors knocking me down when I walk in the door. NEW. FRESH. WELLMAINTAINED. Did I mention CLEAN??? You get to keep your own personal nail file, buffer, cuticle stick, and polish(even if you do separate colors on your hands & feet!). Everything else is cleaned in an autoclave and not just plunked into some cup of blue water for the next customer. I’m sold on Hoopla. While I agree private massage rooms are not fully insulated against the noise, if you’re relaxed enough, you won’t notice or care, and if you go early in the morning or ask for a time of day when it’s not busy, you’ll be better off. I had a massage here. The décor is just adorable. Everyone was super friendly and upbeat! My only minus is I could hear the techs clipping and talking away during my massage, which made it hard to totally relax. I think they need a noise machine on top of the music they play. Unless there is a way to insulate the room better but I doubt it. My therapist was sweet, massage was average. If noise doesnt bother you then check it out or maybe book at a time when they aren’t too busy. Id love to come back and get my nails done.

I’ve now been back to HOOPLA two more times for a manicure and a pedicure. Now, I know everyone’s experiences are different, but every time I’ve been to HOOPLA, I’ve come away overly satisfied. My pedicure lasted weeks without so much as a chip, and I’ve had my manicure for 4 days and it’s still perfect… and I’m a mom and use my hands CONSTANTLY. In fact, I even untied a knotted shoelace the evening of my manicure and it still looks amazing. I’ll keep returning to HOOPLA and recommending it to friends. I can’t say enough good things about this lovely place!

While the service was friendly and welcoming, the actual manicure/pedicure was pretty awful. My cuticles were left basically untrimmed and 2 days later my nails are all chipped. I love the concept of a clean salon. Also love the idea of individual nail polish bottles. Such a great concept, but executed poorly. If only the talent of the manicurist matched their friendliness. The massage portion of the manicure/pedicure was excellent, but $ 80 dollars later — a hand and foot massage is not worth that. The cost of the service would be worth it if I left feeling like my nails looked good and had lasted more than 48 hrs. It is just incredibly expensive for a mediocre manicure. I can go down the street to another nail salon for less than half the price and leave with trimmed cuticles and a manicure that lasts at least a week.

For years I have been dreaming of a modern, high end concept nail salon in Kansas City. When I heard about Hoopla, I anxiously awaited the opening. They take reservations online, so I made an appointment for me, my sister and my mom on a Wednesday. I was leaving the country on Thursday and my mom and sister had a wedding shower to attend on Saturday. We all needed our nails to look great. I never received a confirmation on my appointment after I booked online. Although the site required all three emails, only my mom received a confirmation. Although I emailed them a day before checking on my appointment, I never got a response. We all went anyway. Entering the space, it was very much as I pictured– clean and modern. On the right are all the private label polish colors. However, they also do gel nails, using CND brand. My mom and I had booked mani gels and my sister had a regular polish pedi. My sister was taken in for her pedi right on time, but mom and I waited for about 15 minutes up by the front desk. There were two girls behind the front desk, they just stared out the window and we were never offered a drink. I asked if the owners were in the house and they mumbled something about them being downstairs because they had a lot to do. I don’t know, I am thinking if it was the first week of my salon in business, I would be at the front of the house checking to see if everything was running smoothly. My mom and I were finally called back for our appointments. It is important to note here that all mani’s are dry. This means no soaking your hands or cuticles. Although that is recommend in the industry for gel nails, if i was getting a regular mani, I would not prefer this process. No cuticle cream is as effective as soaking your nails, period. The interesting part of my mani was that the UV light only came on for a couple seconds at a time. When I asked if this was supposed to be happening, my tech said that is all they needed. I have never seen anything like that before and I think was the root cause of my soon to be problem. Mom and I were both disappointed that they only had a handful of the CND colors. If you are only going to carry one brand, where are all the colors? The red I usually use in CND was not in house. I picked some hooker red, which would later, be my fatal misstep. Cut to Barcelona, 2 days later. I have a giant chip on my thumb nail and my index finger is also showing wear. Yes, I said chipped. In the 2 years I have been doing gel nails, they have peeled, but I have never seen them chip… on the 3rd day, no less. the next day, I peeled off the rest of my thumb polish(see pic) because it looked so bad, particularly in red. This was really awesome, because now i am in Paris, fashion capital of the world. By London, I was on a mission to find the mall and fix my situation. 53£ later, I could enjoy my vacation again. BTW, the London manicure just stared peeling and it has been 20 days. I emailed my mom to check on her nails and all her nails were chipped by the wedding shower, which I am sure was a great look in a room full of women. She was not happy. My sister had a regular pedi and was happy with her service. I complained about my manicure on Facebook and some other friends chimed in saying they have heard the same story(about chipping nails) from other friends who have had their nails done at Hoopla. The prices here are higher then the other nail salons I have tried. Trust me, I am willing to pay higher prices for a higher experience, but the best part of Hoopla is the décor. Gel nails are expensive for a reason– they last for weeks! Gel nails at Hoopla last for 3 days and that’s no deal. Honestly, if I had been in town, I would have walked back in and asked for a refund. I am so excited that Hoopla landed in Fairway. I went for the first time last night, and I will certainly be back! Kim provided a wonderful pedicure and took the time required to do it right.(She even rescued a nail that was literally broken in half!) The prices are a little higher than the average strip mall, but the customer service and cool atmosphere put Hoopla into a class of its own!

4 stars is certainly not an insult. I was very pleased with my experience. I take one star away for comfort of the pedi stations. I am no spring chicken and climbing up on the big banquette was a little scary. I’ve never had a pedi before, so maybe they are all like that but getting up was one thing, getting down was really scary. The attentiveness of the staff is great, they make sure to guide you through the process and are friendly. What got me here is the fact that they autoclave every single item that they can. Things that can’t be autoclaved are single use. You even take your mini polish and other implements home with you for touch ups. I think the manicure price of $ 24 is an absolute bargain. The $ 40 pedicure will probably not lure me back. I was leary about a pedicure to start with and after climbing up and down, it’s a definite no for future visits. Walk-ins welcome, but they also take appointments. Easy access at the Fairway Shops. I see this place staying in business for a long time. You don’t even gag from chemical smells when you walk in!
