called to get quote to reupholster a family room chair. Need to bring it in, owner said he’d be there til 4:30 (it was about 3 pm). OK, I’ll do it. got there, no owner but worker said he’d be back soon. 10 minutes or so he’s back and looks at the chair. I have the exact fabric, 6 yds., just need labor estimate. Immediately, he estimates 7 yds and $ 355 for labor only. Since only arms, seat cushion and seat back are worn from dogs, I asked for a quote to repair only the worn areas. He says he can do that but he has to break the chair completely down to do that and it would be $ 355 (same price?). Since it is a fully upholstered chair, it seems as though much less labor is needed to do those three things .vs. the whole thing!, IMHO. Rip off, you figure it out!
I opted out and found another shop nearby for $ 250 and they also made arm covers and chair top cover and didn’t have to take it completely apart. Oh, and I still have 4 yards left for the next time.
