I can’t imagine a better person or shop to deal with. Sonny is the standard by which others should aspire! Firstly, Sonny himself is not only a great guy to speak with or discuss your projects, but he is caring, meticulous, knowledgable and a true enthusiast. He speaks fluent ‘hot rod’ and will do things the right way or not at all. If you have an idea what you want, but need someone with experience to ‘fill in the blanks’, this is the shop and guy for you. It’s actually very difficult to find a good shop to care for classics, customs or specialty cars these days… you want to trust a shop which looks reasonable or projects the right attitude, but in reality, the shop you trust with your pride and joy can fall way short of the expectations you have. Not so at Sonny’s muffler, tucked away off Main Street. He’ll treat your car as if it was one of his own. I honestly can’t say enough good about my experience with Sonny and his shop. Forget everyone else, bring your Rod, custom, classic, specialty car or everyday auto/​truck here for his services — you won’t regret it. Dollar for service, I doubt there’s much true competition in the whole of SoCal. Awesome.

I took my Subaru into Sonny’s Exhaust and Auto this morning because I thought I had an exhaust leak. It turns out, I’m not the «off roader» I thought I was and had cracked my catalytic converter in half on one of my dirt road adventures. Sonny and Matt not only repaired it in under two hours on a Saturday, they saved me $ 1500! They’re seriously the best and I highly recommend them. They do all kinds of auto repairs in addition to exhaust work.

Called Sonny Saturday morning December 27… Explained to him what I needed for my 1983 k20 exhaust relative to front driveshaft. Gave me a price and said come back in two hours and it’ll be be done. Walked around downtown Fallbrook, ate lunch… Came back and finite… Perfect as if he read my mind in the fabrication aspect… I’d called two other local exhaust shops prior to… Both acted put out or they’d be doing me a favor… I happen to be in the «car biz’ and will now send all my customers from San Marcos up to Fallbrook. It is worth the short drive people!!! When you find someone willing and able to do a job well that’s three quarters of the battle.

Great service, honesty, and a sincere concern for the proper operation of my vehicle.
My flex pipe on the down pipe had probably been leaky since I got the car several years ago; I just turned off the fan at stops so the exhaust didn’t get into the cab. Well, I was tired of that. But, being thrifty and working on my own vehicles for the most part, I was going to spend all this time dropping the section to bring to them to weld the new flex portion in. When I brought it in for Sonny to look at, he put it right on the lift, quoted me a great price, and said it’d be done in an hour-​ish.
I saved a bunch of knuckle busting, time, and potentially installing a pipe that wasn’t perfectly aligned, therefore putting tension in the flex section and probably wearing it out prematurely. In fact, this is what he said had happened previously; once removed he found significant torsion in the flex joint.
It did take about an hour more than he thought, but it made sense taking into account how these VWs are set up (crossmember in the way, had to add several steps more than a regular car («Honda civic would take…20 minutes!»). Besides, you’re in lovely fallbrook, and have within walking distance three thrift shops, two cafés, joes hardware, oreilys auto, and an award winning library… and maybe an Irish pub and Fallbrook Brewing Co. :)

Sonny quoted me a cost for a dual exhaust system for a classic Chevy which was the only good reason for me to drive all the way to Fallbrook for car repairs. Once I got there, & I was already an hour late, which made for a long day. I asked him for a quote to weld 2 new front floor panels as well. So, it made for a very long day. Sonny & his son worked about 9 hours straight & I never saw them take a break. The end result of the workmanship was outstanding & I was very happy with every detail of their work & how it all looked once completed. I give an A plus in patience, price & quality. It was one long tough day.
