AAMCO – Flagstaff Transmissions and Auto Repair

This shop totally SUCKS — original repair in March 2014. Kevin will show you around his shop, talk his guys up, September 2014 it won’t go in gear. Call him his guys have my MDX for a week more. Repaired it, then a year later, March 2015 when his remanufactured transmission fails AGAIN, he will not even answer his corporate office! During this try, they removed my transmission took it to Kevin 4 hours away & his warranty to repair — 2 weeks later, I have my transmission back.
Rental he says he will pay — fiasco, he will ONLY the $ 20/​day — lol, nothing extra!!! .I end up paying $ 400, he called me a liar, thinking I am trying to get extra $$ out of him, dude is a freak job.
Next morning it will not go into 1^st gear. Ohhhh MY goodness, really??? So 4 more months later, 3^rd person I get to deal with, says I need a new transmission — only now Kevin will not answer Corporate’s calls??? They tell me «they’re finished trying to get a hold of Kevin Ludlow.
Don’t do it, unless you care for a headache and months of attempts to correct wrongdoings! Just say no!

BEWARE! Please read all reviews before you bring your business to Kevin and his shop. Please read the negative reviews at the new and old locations here in flagstaff on Google maps. I do not know how this shop is still in business.
Other shops are honest and more reputable in the flagstaff area.

We broke down 15 miles north of Flagstaff, 3:30pm on Saturday June 13. AAA began towing us into town. Joey from Tow-​Rite called several shops — Goodyear repair place — closing shortly NO, called another — no answer, then he called Kevin at AAMCO (who closed at noon). Kevin said he would check in with his technicians to see if anyone was available. Joey called a couple more places that were no answer. Kevin called back and said bring the car to AAMCO.
Kevin and the technician (Cary) met us. Kevin opened up the shop. They told us not to worry, they would inspect the car, fix it if possible and if the car could not be fixed immediately, they would get us a rental car or hotel. They ran a full diagnostic test, found no problems in the report. Cary and I went for a test ride, the problems did not happen again. Once back at the shop Cary looked up any Technical Bulletins and found one related to fuses and ignition. He tested all the fuses and looked for ignition problems. He cleaned one of our fuses that showed some carbon and retested it. The cleaning improved the voltage. Cary told us to go home all should be ok. I asked, «How much do I owe you?» Cary replied: «NO CHARGE». We made home to Phoenix, no problems.
I can say enough good things about these folks! Take your business to them, they deserve it! Kevin and Cary were kind and considerate! They interrupted their day to help us! Thank you!

My transmission is getting noisier every day. Sometimes the vibration is very bad and sometimes it slips a little but it still shifts. I’m very disappointed in the quality of this AAMCO rebuilt transmission. When I bring it to an AAMCO shop they tell me the problem is my engine or my drive train or my differential even though it’s obvious that the transmission is bad. I don’t think it will last long. I’m hoping AAMCO will honor their warranty when it finally leaves me stranded somewhere. I still have faith in the AAMCO name even though I’ve lost faith in a lot of their independent franchisees. I give Kevin a 3 star rating because he owns an AAMCO transmission shop. If tt was Kevin’s transmission shop he would get one star. I would love to give Kevin a 5 star rating because he’s a nice guy on a personal basis. However as long as he stands behind his lead mechanic TJ, his transmission shop deserves a one star rating.

The location of this shop has changed. They are now on the east side at 2608 N. West ST. 86 004.
The manager was very helpful and courteous and they didn’t take too long to fix my car. I liked that was a guarantee on the work they did and they were still less expensive than the other shops I called about the work my car needed:)

On our way to the Grand Canyon we ran over a clump of tumbleweed, which caused the plastic housing underneath the engine to come loose and dangle by only one attachment of several. I called a number of repair shops in Flagstaff and none could even assess the problem until mid afternoon,
that is, until I contacted AAMCO. They said come on in. We dropped the car off and went across the street for breakfast. On our return, the car was on the rack and I was invited in to inspect the damage. They had secured the dislodged housing and assured me that it would be fine until we got home and could get the car to the dealer for the proper fix. The charge? «No charge today, sir, enjoy your vacation.» In my mind a charge of $ 100 and an all day wait would have been consistent with past experience of auto repair shops. Many thanks to the guys and gal at AAMCO Flagstaff!

Beware!!!
I went to this shop to get my transmission fluid changed and the strainer replaced. After the fluid was drained, the guy says I don’t have the strainer for your truck. In the words of Keyshawn Johnson «C’mon Man!». Well two months later tranny is burnt out $ 2,100.00out the wazoo to rebuild. Might as well bend over and take it up the rear with no lube!

My wife went to this location for service on her truck. She made an appointment 2 days prior and arrived early to the 11am appointment only to be told that she should come back at 3pm because they are unable to take her vehicle. She returned prior to 3pm and was told that they would not be able to take her car. The owner then blamed her for the problem saying that she should have waited instead of returning at the time he set for a 2^nd appointment. Flagstaff is too small of a town to treat people like this and not have the word get out.
This would all be well and good except she purchased a discount card for services and now is left having spent the money, which is non-​refundable, and wanting to never set foot in there again.
Glad it wasn’t me that went… one of the perks of not having a car.
