Historic Brewing Company

The Piehole Porter is a one-​of-​a-​kind beer. I am from Chicago, and out of all of the places that I have had beer, this is one of my favorite. I am kind of bummed that they stopped serving food, because that topped the experience, but I will say that the beer will definitely keep you coming back.

Currently a twenty dollar groupon for two full flights! As always every beer is smooth and delicious. Bar tender was friendly and attentive. Played some beer trivia card game and cards against humanity while sitting up at the bar. Very good spot to sit and chill.

I had a fun outing to Historic when I recently visited Flag over the Thanksgiving holidays! I was, I admit, a little puzzled when I pulled up to the address… nobody seemed to be there and it looked like a bottling facility. Then I spotted the door in the side of the building, decked out in holiday lights, so I entered and there was the taproom. Totally deserted! The bartender served me a flight of delicious local brews and we chatted for over an hour. I really enjoyed all the beers and if I lived locally, I’d have been glad to take home a growler. Alas, airlines don’t appreciate you carrying on jugs of beer. Silly TSA. Anyway, if you live in Flag or are visiting and would like some awesome local craft beer, pay them a visit, and don’t be weirded out by the non-​retail-​looking location!

Really enjoy Historic and their beer. I wasn’t a beer enthusiast but once I sampled a flight at Historic, I was a convert. I can appreciate a true brewery; you go there for beer and to hang out, and I think Historic is great for that. My personal favorite is the Piehole Porter but the Every Day Special is a close second. Highly recommend!

Well it actually kills me to only give this place a three star rating. Has nothing to do with the food (actually prepared at Proper Meats) or the beer. I would give both 6 stars if I could. This rating is strictly service related. We have visited about 4 times. All times the service was terrible. You basically have to serve yourself. Beer order requires standing in line and will be a separate tab. When food is brought it is never with silverware. They act annoyed and rude if you request one thing. On our last visit, both our food order and beer order were incorrect. Poorly managed and understaffed. Also did not appreciate server with smelly dreadlock hair.

After hiking Humphrey we needed some refueling! husband had seen some articles about this place and we wanted to give something new a try. Good Choice. We sat outside and ordered the beer flight. as a huge book nerd i loved how the samples were displayed on an old book. They had quite a beer menu to choose from, so it took us a bit to decide. Was pleasantly surprised by a Cucumber beer — Undercover cucumber — it was amazing, Not quite my husbands taste, so he settled on the Downtown Funk.
The winner of the day was the Banh Mi that my husband ordered — it was out of this world delicious and made my brushetta seem boring. I kept eyeing my husbands plate and he graciously gave me a few nibbles.
Rain came roaring in just as we finished eating, so grabbed our beers and headed inside. the place is small, so seating is limited, but it was mid day and not an issue for us.
Good service, Great beer, and that Banh Mi… well I have dreams about it. Until next time!

The beers are amazing, no question worth the trip. The pie hole porter is one of the best I have had!

Beer is good, service is bad. The interior is nice. I would add a picture of the place, but the little manager girl gave me a really hard time for taking pictures. Keep saying, are these for personal use. Not very welcoming.

If you’re visiting Flagstaff and want to check out the best brews Flagstaff has to offer, then Historic has to be on your agenda. It’s a bit aways from the downtown touristy section but well worth going out to.
It’s a very divey, stripped down kind of place that’s perfect to hit up with a friend or two and hangout. It’s a taproom with just a few tables and bar area, so it’s not a restaurant style brewery like most, but you can bring in some food if you want to. They are a great selection of beers. But what makes it so cool is that the taproom is right in the same area as all the brewing equipment. So while you sit with your beer, you can see the whole operation in all it’s glory right there!
Historic does my favorite kind of beer set-​up, in that they have a set of flagship, mainstay beers as well as small-​batch, rotating concoctions and seasonals. So they have the beers you love that will always be there and something new for the next tie you show up. The Pie-​Hole Cherry Porter is a must try by the way. Great for the mid-​afternoon beers or for a flight along your beer crawl!

Love this spot. Love the smell of breweries and this one smelled like home. I had the opposable IPA which was great. Small tap room but had a great vibe. There is construction on the main streets to get there so that was the only confusing part. Can’t wait to go back!

Great beer, Awesome to actually hang out in the brewery. Our bar tender, Amy is amazing! Very friendly and informative, we actually met her one night in Williams AZ, we are ecstatic that she is now here!
Only suggestion is to have some iced tea for the“designated driver”. You can bring your own food and non-​alcohol drinks with.
We will be back every time we are in Flagstaff!

Saturday around 4pm, stopped by at the recommendation of Cory at the State Bar. First off I LOVE breweries that are off the beaten path, and have character. This place hits it right on. Kelton, was awesome at the Tap Room which is in the brewery itself. That always makes for a fun social time to be able to see the brewery while you drink and to talk to someone involved in the production. Kelton also had a working knowledge of the beer he was selling. The beer list covered a nice variety. There was a brown Brett, an IPA, a Porter, a Pilsner, a Golden Lemongrass ale… all were very good the IPA and Brett rated high for me. There was also a Rye which was very tasty. No Food, so don’t come hungry. Limited parking in the lot, so may need to park on the street.

A friend recommended we try this brewery when we were in Flag last weekend. We always stay at the Wyndham, and this is ridiculously close to that resort. I would have had no idea it was there if she hadn’t told me about it. My husband and I had a flight and tried all the different beers. They were all good, although I liked the Piehole Porter best and he favored the IPA. I love that the bar is in the brewery… very cool atmosphere. Glad to have found a new (to us anyway) brewery to hit when we visit!

Stopped in here the other night for the first time and was surprised. Just what you want from a small local brewery. Good beer, nice, clean, simple atmosphere, all while providing great company. All they need is a food truck out front and this place will be set!
Bonus: Dogs and Games

This place rocks. Unassuming warehouse, so don’t miss it. If you think you are ready to buy concrete or repair heavy earthmoving machinery, you are at the right place. Friendly people, great beer. Will visit again. Loved the St Bernard cruising around, looking for love.

We loved this place-​a little off the beaten path, but well worth it. Loved the cherry vanilla porter. Will definitely be back next time we are in town.

We had different six choices and all have good flavor. We are not big fans of hoppy brews and loved it here. Only one is hoppy, the Joy Ryed, still tasty just too hoppy for us. Lots of good choices, our favorite was the Deer Lord, a nice kind of European flavor. The Everyday Special is floral n light. The Piehole Porter I liked but the wife did not, kind of reminded her off her dad’s pipe tobacco. The Bipolar Express was very flavorful, to flavorful for us but we like beer to taste like German beer. Finally, the Brewers Choice was a nice surprise, the nose was kind of harsh but the flavor was wonderful. Excellent selection.

A craft brewery that has FLAVOR!
I was getting really tired of the local brews in town and their extreme «hop-​iness» and lack of real flavor. We have ad a ton of new breweries pop up in the last few years and Historic is my absolute favorite.
Went to their beer dinner last month. Atmosphere inside was quite nice, reminded me of some breweries in Colorado that I’ve been to. They had a nice family style atmosphere going for the night with a long table set for 60. I don’t want to get into the food since I am reviewing the brewery but to say the least, we were all stuffed. 7 courses! (not tasting size by the way, family style and a massive amount of supply)
All of the beers we tasted had a unique flavor that was not masked by hops. you could smell the cinnamon in the Bipolar Express. The Cherry and Vanilla porter was surprisingly delish with just enough cherry and just enough vanilla! AKA Piehole Porter. The Bear Arms Strong Ale was very very good. For those of you that do love hops, they have a «hopped up pilsner» which is their every day special. Their pale ale Joy Ryed is a rye pale ale surprisingly really good.
My favorite, Bipolar Express and I am pretty sure it was just a seasonal but I hope they keep it all year round.
Looking forward to more beer dinners and looking forward to more flavors for this coming summer!

Well, it was about 40 degrees when we first visited — inside and out!
They didn’t yet have a heater yet! But fear not, that’s been remedied! It’s nice cozy inside.
But, if you’re trying to find Historic Brewing, they still don’t have a sign.
When you’re completely convinced that you’re totally lost and that this industrial back street can’t possibly be the right place, you’ve arrived!
Here’s what it is about: Their beers are great.
They have 8 or more on tap and I like all of them. Their basics are all very good and they have some with ingredients that didn’t sound appealing, but they work!
The brewers are adventurous have a very nice touch.
Try something outside your comfort zone, you’re in good hands.
