Howard Johnson Flagstaff I-40 Exit 198 E. Lucky Lane

No complaints about the room — it was clean, the shower was hot, and the staff was friendly. This place advertised free wifi, which would be great if it ever worked. We stayed for two days, and I think the wifi worked for 5 minutes on one of the days. Very disappointing, as I needed the wifi to work. When asked, the guy at the front desk said they have been having problems, but keep trying, and it will connect. Not.

Where do I begin? Let me start by saying please don’t come here expecting a 5 star hotel for $ 50 a night. It always amazes me to see folks expecting to be treated like royalty without paying the price for it. Any time I book a room for less than $ 100/​night I automatically expect it to be sub par. This hotel was no different but I was delightfully surprised. We were late checking in and the man who helped us was very friendly, as was the lady at the counter in the morning (in spite of her having to deal with complaining guests who apparently think $ 50 is worth more than it actually is). Let me help you with the waffle maker. It cooks them about 15 seconds too long, but If you use a fork to lift your waffle and then grab it with the tongs, it won’t crumble apart. It tasted great. Other breakfast items are fruit, cereal, coffee, muffins, juice etc. Now let me tell you about the rooms — we had two. Ok, sure the wallpaper is lifting a little in the bathroom and it could use a little more attention to detail as far as cleaning the corners, but our shower stall looked new & the room smelled fresh. Before I even bring my things into a hotel room (especially a cheap one), I always always always inspect the beds for bugs. Both of our rooms had NEW mattresses and were completely bug free. We actually slept great both nights! There is a Walmart down the street just in case you need anything. All in all, i’d say this was an excellent value. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Wonderful place to stay. Double bed room, nicely furnished. Breakfast cereals, juice, coffee and tea, and more in lobby in the morning. Very friendly and helpful staff.

DON’T stay here!!! This was is awful. Management is AWFUL! Here is my story: I am traveling from Calif to the Eastern States with 3 dogs and had been on the road for 8 hours. I had made a reservation here for that night I was staying. Since I was delayed, I called and cancelled the previous night to coincide with the current night I was arriving. When I arrived there was a tweeker type girl behind the counter. I came up to the desk and gave her my name to which she proceeded to tell me I was not in her reservation and they had NO record of me. I explained I cancelled the day before and moved it to tonight at this location. Again, she said they had no record of my name at all; did I book somewhere else, to which I told her no. She then says, «well, I’m not too busy. She was doing nothing and there was not one guest in sight. She says, I guess I can call the system to find out where you were.» They tell her I was booked at HER HOTEL on lucky lane so she looks at the reservation and tells me I was charged for lack of cancellation. I tell her I did cancel. She tells me I booked through AAA and need to call them, but I had called through the Howard Johnson 800 number. Never called to book through AAA ever. She calls her manager, SANJAY PATEL, who is directly behind her behind a door like the wizard of oz telling her to charge me. But here’s what they can do: CHARGE ME AGAIN for another night’s stay. I insisted that I cancelled. This is where she went into full tweeker mode; she starts shaking and SCREAMS at me to get out of her lobby or she’s going to call the police. DON’T STAY HERE. I TRULY believe they knew I cancelled and ignored it because their hotel is hurting for $$$. I cancelled and even have the phone record on my phone. DON’T STAY HERE. UNDERHANDED AND DECEITFUL PEOPLE.

It is only acceptable if you need a quick nights sleep. Beds were a bit too soft and pillows have no cushion, so be prepared to toss and turn. It’s been awhile since I have seen a 19in tube TV. There was a used bar of soap in the bathroom with hair wrapped around it. They left us no shampoo. Towels look like the original towels they opened the hotel with. Stained, old and rough. Place was relatively clean but that was about it. Did notice in the lobby they had the continental breakfast counter, but the fridge said Employees Only. Will not be staying here again.

Overpriced @$ 80 /​night. The room is very outdated noisy and reeked of wet smelly carpet. The real bonus is the rude indian lady at the front desk. Zero customer service. These hotels are not corporate but rather franchised. I should know i worked for one in vallejo california. If you want a way to ruin your trip. By all means check in here.

The beds themselves were comfortable. If you need a rollaway… don’t bother just fork up the money for another room… better yet just stay at a different hotel. It was clean for the most part. Breakfast was mediocre, highlight was the waffle machine but some fruit or yogurt to go along with it would have been nice. Pool is small but decent. I wouldn’t recommend staying more than a night for a cheap stay.

I’m pretty sure the only reason why this hotel is operating is because of the tour bus companies that continuously bring all these foreigners… I saw people from Japan, China, and Germany haha…
I stayed here during a weekend for a business trip, paid for by my employer. Anything free is great, but I was tempted to just go to holiday inn or embassy suites and pay out of my own pocket than deal with the discomfort I dealt with.
The place kinda reminds me of one of those movies where the murderer is hiding in a motel… It isn’t that bad looking on the outside, but just kinda gave me that vibe. I felt that the beds weren’t comfortable at all. In fact, they felt like they were really old mattresses. The constant bus traffic with their beeping late at night and the trains really affected my sleep. The Room itself was kind of clean, nothing too outrageous. The continental breakfast was really mediocre at best… I was happy they had a waffle machine though lol… But their coffee tasted absolutely horrible. Lastly, the Internet was hit or miss… Sometimes I would get good wifi and other times it wouldn’t run very fast at all.
Would I stay here again? Probably not… I’ll pay more money and go somewhere I can actually get sleep. For people just looking for a quick, cheap, one night stay while on a road trip, this is probably a good option. Definitely not for business trips or vacation though.

Even though this hotel had a great price, I would not stay here again. The non-​smoking rooms wreak of smoke. The doors are warped. The Wi-​Fi does not work at all and when you tell the staff they agree it doesn’t work and say there’s nothing they can do about it. The blankets are stained, have holes and are ragged. The coffeemakers in the room do you make coffee but you have to wait almost 30 minutes for it to brew. They really need to clean up their hotel and offer amenities like those around them.

For a late night, last minute check-​in this place fit the bill. Melissa at reception was very accommodating and made sure my party of two got a room after a long days drive. The room was not top notch but was clean, did not smell of smoke which is rare of AZ hotels and motels, and was easy to get to and from within the town of Flagstaff.
The only downside would have been this place was close to the railroad tracks where the trains were running all night long.
If you are passing through town, need a good priced place to stay with comfy beds this is a decent stop over.

This was a great hotel for the price. The bed was super comfortable and the room was clean. The TV and Internet worked well too.

I would never stay here again. When we booked our reservation over the phone, rep didn’t tell us that it would be an additional cost for our dog. It was a $ 15 charge, not a lot of money but I like to know what I’m gonna be paying for upfront. Place wasn’t very clean, sheets seemed to be recycled between guest because I found what appeared to be cigaret buds in one of our beds. Our sink was clogged. The carpets are horrible. No place for pets to go potty, had to basically walk out to the side walk to the closest patch of dirt late at night so my dog could go. Next time I’m paying the extra money for a better quality hotel.

This place is horrible. If you like sticky carpets and nasty bathrooms then this is the place for you. I’d say it’s barely better then sleeping outside under a freeway overpass.
The only good thing about this place is Victoria at the front desk, she was very helpful.

I’m sorry to give them one star. Save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere else. Rude!

The heater in our room had had two settings, full heat blast or off. The knob to control temperature didn’t work at all. To make it worst, heater/​AC unit blows directly onto the bed. Since the blankets in bed were paper thin, having heater off was not an option in the winter. We ended up constantly get up to turn heater on and off to get room temperature under control. The room itself is grimy and carpet is nasty. I recommend staying away from this place if at all possible

Just needed a bed and a hot shower during a road trip, and this place was adequate, to say it nicely.
My major complaints involve the shower. The tub had a hair in it from a previous overnight guest, and the hot water hummed the entire shower. The water pressure was non-​existent too, but I’m a diva when it comes to shower heads, so it was about less than average for a hotel.
Breakfast was the usual carbo-​loading of cereal, waffles, bagels, muffins, and juice. Coffee was meh, typical of any hotel. Service was efficient and friendly. They charge $ 15 extra for pets if you’re traveling with animals. Wifi and breakfast is included. I got a great price on
, so if I were driving through again, I’d consider it. This isn’t any place I’d want to spend more than one night though.

i was on a road trip with my husband and my pets, surprisingly they charged me $ 39 +15 for pets, so cheap. It doesnt stop there, it is very clean and fully equipped! Has a microwave, coffee, they offered free breakfast too but i didnt have time to eat. The toilet was cleaned and sanitized (it was noted on the toilet cover) for the price i paid, i couldnt expect anything else, oh and also free tv cable and wifi too!

At $ 110 for 2 queen beds, I really expected more from Howard Johnson. This was much more what I works expect from a $ 70 room.
This motel is very old and it shows its age. Wallpaper was peeling in places, and one of the lamps didn’t have a bulb in it.
The soda machine in the lobby was out of… everything. Really.
You put in $ 1.75 and then each button you push says SOLD OUT.
Beds were comfortable, shower worked fine and it’s in Flagstaff.
Old style TV (not flat screen) but it worked fine.

When we arrived, the front desk did not inform us that the water was shut off due to a busted pipe. It wasn’t until I carried all of my luggage up the stairs and used the bathroom, that I found out the water was turned off. I called the front desk, and the front office was annoyed that I inquired about the water. When my husband went back to the front desk to check out, the man at the front desk shouted at him «I knew you’d want a fu**** refund! I just knew it»
We booked our stay via Kayak, so the man at the front desk could not check us out, or refund our stay (according to him). We left, and were never refunded. We only spent 5 minutes in our room.
