Rainbow sheen ketchup… I don’t think it was on purpose… Seen this place growing up and was more of a landmark than a dining destination. Once I was old enough to afford eating out, it was what I thought diner food was suppose to be. Through out high school and college, I would order burgers, or eggs. Then I discovered the salad bar had fried chicken. It certainly opened my world. As I got older and saw the larger world, I noticed that fried chicken is not suppose to be cold. The ketchup and burger patties independently has rainbow sheens. This diner only played host to a majority retiree community. As I left for one of the final times dining here with my girlfriend, the owner stopped us in the parking lot asking about our experience and expressing how rare it was to see a young Asian 30 year old couple eat at his place. He asked how our experience was and wanted criticism of what was wrong in my opinion. He welcomed my stories of my childhood experience of seeing his place as a landmark, right down to the rainbow sheen food. He apologized for the faults even though I was not asking for one, and I gave my well wishes for him and his establishment. He’s a really down to earth guy, and wish him well. As a food destination, it will not be missed, but as a sentimental landmark place that was always there as I grew up, it will be remembered.

The date is 9÷03… And I just left a function at the Palace Diner. This place left such an impression on me that I am Unilocaling before I even get home. The servers were nice and helpful However– let’s start with the Rolls. The folds came to our table they were warm– but they were as hard as rocks. Such a disappointment. Next, came the diner. They gave us a choice of: Chicken Marsala, London Broil & grilled fillet of sole will potatoe and veggies. I ordered the London broil and my husband ordered the fish. All of it was a bog mistake. I’ve had more gourmet meals at McDonalds and checkers. When the Beef came it was tough and didn’t taste good: I was like what is this giraffe meat? My hubby’s fish tasted — well!!! Very fishy! The little I eat was disrecptful to my digestive system and a waste of calories. I would not go back to this place the food is just plain horrible. On the up side: they give full glasses of wine.

So it’s closing down, this place is older than I am! So for a trip down memory lane I went back. It’s a typical diner. Breakfast served all day, great for when you’re hungover or done with a night of drinking. This place is always here. Course if you order anything outside of breakfast or burgers, sandwiches it’s a crap shoot. Had the lamb chops as a last meal. It was ok, wasn’t cooked right, but whatever. Sorry to see you go, cause diners are becoming a rarity these days.

EDITTED4÷1÷12: This place is CLOSED. I came here for breakfast on a Saturday and the place was packed. I ordered egg whites(made with real egg whites, not that disgusting liquid some places used) with home fries and bacon. Nothing special about the food — it was just what I expected. The service could have been a little better — my waitress never checked up on me and the only time she was friendly was when she gave me my check(thanks, honey!) For the amount of people that there were, I guess this is a popular place. There’s a private area in the back — I think they have a buffet or something, which accommodates a good amount of people(maybe 50?) Anyway, there’s nothing special about this place. I prefer Georgia Diner on Queens Boulevard by Grand Avenue.

It’s been years since I visited Palace Diner. Back in grammar school it was the place we went for a burger. This visit was for a late night snack or should I say breakfast. Two eggs, bacon, hash browns and rye toast was delicious! Fluffy eggs cooked perfectly with well cooked bacon, standard hash browns and the most awesome rye toast. It really hit the spot and it was all just wonderful. The decaf coffee was hot, strong and tasty just like coffee should be. The visit brought back some good memories and left me feeling happy and satisfied.

While I was back in the old neighborhood I stopped into the Palace Diner. I went here all the time as a kid, it was my mother’s favorite place. I admit, I went specifically so I could check in and pester my mother now that she’s living in Texas. The place looks the same, but it’s just not. Maybe it’s because I am older and there’s no recognizable faces among the staff any more. Or maybe it’s because the menu was so different. Some of the things I remember being ordered at our table all the time were no longer on the menu. The menu itself is huge now. Page after page of different things. I would probably suggest the menu is almost too big these days. I wonder if the Palace is trying to cater to too many cultures all at once and making the menu too bulky in the process. When I was a kid it was really a Greek diner and just had a bunch of diner staples to go with it. But now, there’s things from all over the globe but the food just does not live up to the billing. But, it’s a diner, and it did the job. I will probably stop in again the next time I’m back in the old neighborhood anyway. Even if it is just to bust my mother’s chops.

Okay, here’s the deal. It’s a typical Queens diner, a bit more on the nouveau-‘classy’(read: tacky) side, but expect to spend. Very clean, and the service was impeccable. The host was not only friendly, but sincere. The food wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t bad either. The reason why I gave this place three stars was the prices. It’s a diner in Queens, not an upscale Italian restaurant. Originally I wanted a pasta dish. Basically good old spaghetti comfort food. However, at $ 14.95 and up a plate, this wasn’t gonna happen. Settled for the tuna cheese melt instead. Also if you’re a vegetarian, you’re going to be disappointed. Carnivores can live large, while the vegetarian settles for either overpriced pasta or your typical placating veggie burger. Ho-hum. Still though, the diner is spacious, and the atmosphere isn’t terrible. It’s mellow, quiet, and enough room for private conversation with your dining buddy. So if you’re not on a budget, don’t discount this place. If you need to watch your greens, don’t order greens from here. Oh yeah, and the fish tanks gave the diner a cute touch.

Big Queens diner, shiny, remodeled occasionally, parking in rear. The menu is fairly extensive, meat centric. They also have an extensive liquor selection. On the day of my review, I had brunch, eggs sardou, which is eggs Benedict, plus spinach and minus the English muffin. I make bad food decisions, mostly I eat meat, when I’m really hungry and I came in here and I had a good discussion with my friend about working towards being more of a vegetarian. My friend got elite without writing any review and she’s quite the foodie, so I’ll share her comments because she doesn’t always get around to writing the reviews(Cori V). My friend had eggs benedict and they put the ham underneath, so she had to perform surgery and place it inside. She felt that the hollandaise sauce was canned, resembled melted cheese too much. She felt the presentation wasn’t good, and they didn’t ask what kind of toast we wanted – got white instead of whole wheat, what we want. She felt the place was a bit soulless.

What’s better than office gossip after a long hard day at work… Office gossip and COFFEE after a long hard day at work! A colleague recently took me to dinner at Palace Diner, a place she has been eating at for years. I think she got a bit freaked out when I started beaming about going to a diner, but you know how I feel about bottomless mugs of coffee and the potential of meatloaf sandwiches. After briefly studying the menu, which was plein de burgers, wraps, breakfast options, standard diner appetizers, hot and cold sandwiches, a few dinner specials, Italian platters and more, I settled on the California burger(topped with avocado, shredded carrots, lettuce and tomato. I also got a turkey patty instead of beef(options also available for chicken, veggie and bison burgers – $ 1.25 extra). My friend upgraded her burger to the deluxe, so we were able to split her giant order of fries. The food was good, reasonably priced. No hot meatloaf sandwich on the menu though. The burger was filling, and the avocado was definitely fresh. My pal’s burger came topped with two onion rings(she generously shared) and also looked very good. She had recommended the burgers, so that definitely helped to make my decision easier. The service was also very attentive, my mug of coffee never went empty! On the way out, I spied the desserts and grabbed a brownie for Rusty. It was one of the thick, fudgy and nutty types that you would get in grade school. Very sweet, but definitely good for sharing. Other perks? Two really cool fish tanks stocked full of interesting looking fish, and a fully stocked bar. I didn’t see any signs advertising free wi-fi, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they had it. Our booth also had one of those personal jukebox player things. I didn’t browse the entire music selection, but Lady Gaga was one of options. All-in-all, Palace Diner gets the thumbs up. It’s the kind of place where you can take a few hours to read your weekend newspaper alone, or have a late Sunday lunch/early dinner with your family. If I were to visit again, I’d probably try the Cuban burger(patty smothered in suateed peppers and onions).

I have so many memories coming here. This was the old hang out spot for my friends and many others in my youth. They’re open 24 hours and we used to order waffle fries and hang out until morning. The food there is like any other diner, but the staff was friendly enough and it felt like home. I know people knock this place for the inconsistent quality of food, but it is such a nostalgic place for so many who live in the area. That may not be a good reason to give it 4 stars, but I’m a sucker for those fond memories… 20⁄365

We come here every time we’re in Flushing to visit family, probably four times a year. When we’re in Flushing, we eat at the Palace once twice, sometimes three times a day and have since the 70s. I can’t remember a disappointing meal, though I would add caveats: Salad bar — yech! Wraps — great! Rotisserie chicken — yum! Lox, eggs and onions(omelet) — love it!(but it’s salty!) Coffee — YES! House wines — waste of money. Desserts — oh baby! and all made on site. The big salads — worth the money! BTW, the same wait staff has been there FORDECADES! That says a lot to me. If you drive, park in their private lot in back(accessed from 60th Ave)

Not the best diner I’ve ever been in. We were walking down Main street and hunger befell us. It was a gnarling type of hunger where I could hear it growling and howling inside my belly and my boyfriend’s belly. Food was ok. Service was overwhelmed. The burger I had was juicy. Medium really was medium and not well done. They used a fish batter to help fry the chicken. This was interesting but a little fattening. Our poor waitress practically ignored us. She was just running back and forth. Good thing I have plenty of googily eyes for my diner date.

I have been told about the two famous/old diners in Flushing/Fresh Meadows. Blue Bay Diner and Palace Diner. I have been to Blue Bay Diner twice already, but I didn’t have a chance to visit Palace Diner. Today, I was coming from the Bronx with friends, and I just said«wanna have dinner?» And we suddenly decided to go to this place. This diner is located on the Main Street and Horace Harding Expressway. The diner was big and quiet. We were led to a corner table, and we found that each table has its own jukebox. 1 song for 50 cents? hm. nah! I’m good with my iPhone. :P Surprisingly, they had«Saturday Dinner Special!» I ordered Roasted Veal which came with free salad bar, one of the vegetables, and one of the potato menu. I chose ‘steamed mixed vegetable’ and ‘sweet potato’. As soon as I finished my order, I rushed to the small salad bar; oh! big plate to fill with so many different salads!!! But the moment of the joy was short. The coleslaw did not taste right. I prefer the one at Blue Bay Diner better. :-(The waitress brought us a big basket of garlic bread and snacks. It took a bit long time to get our entrees, but I wouldn’t complain because it was tasty! Just one complaint is that the outside of my roasted veal was harder than I expected. However, the portion of the total food I got was a lot! I had to leave a half of everything and ask to pack them for take-out. Huah!

Want to go inside? I strongly suggest you walk away, as far as possible. Such HORRIBLEFOOD that it doesn’t even deserve 1 star! I was reluctant to come here for a quick dinner but my friends and I were all hungry. We all had a gut feeling that this place wouldn’t be as good as Blue Bay Diner but we wanted to give it a try anyway and I did quote that«I want to try out all the diners in Queens». So we went inside, sat down and the menu looked pleasant and all. However, the food was not whatsoever. The salad bar was not fresh at all and neither was my Grill Vegetable Wrap. It was soggy and even the fries that came with my wrap were stale. Let’s just say that my experience at Palace Diner was one of the worst ones yet. Next time, I don’t care how long it takes us to drive to Blue Bay Diner because I’m sticking to that place. Good-bye Palace Diner for good!

I came here for breakfast with an apathetic dead soul friend along with his five year old daughter. The quality of food is good, but not gourmet. The ham, scrambled eggs and toast were good. The toast were automatically slabbed with butter which patrons can additionally opt for strawberry or grape jam. Personally I perfer marmalade rather than ordinary jam on my toast. I doubt most diners offer marmalade. Although I love butter on my toast but occassionally, I like marmalade. I rate it four stars as the wait staff were rather grumpy by their facial and body language as it’s just a job. Customer service were not friendly with a pleasant attitude especially in front of my good friend’s young daughter.
