PONJI Juice Bar

There’s usually only one person that works there now. I think he is the owner and he works at another vendor in new world mall. He told me how he tried to teach the other person (the ones that makes the fast food right next to ponji) but he didn’t get it. Also the owner spoke english really well compared to the other people.
He told me this cause a friend and I were waiting for him.
My friend loves the mango bango (i think it’ called) and got one for me too. It was pretty good, saw that they mixed mango juice and some mango fruits.
Fairly basic.
I got their juice once also it was okay. Nothing too special. It was orange, apple, and ginger. The guy was nice enough to ask if I wanted ginger or not (althou I ordered it cause of that) but cause some people might not really want it. Or just want a little of it.
They also have shaved ice. I had it once, it was pretty good. But if you don’t tell them that you want it to go they’ll just put it on a plate. Gets messy when it melts.
As with all the vendors in New world mall, its cash only.

Just plain bad and disappointing. Very limited toppings on a Saturday night and all you can taste is ice. It taste like how it looks, displeasing.

I heard that this place was famous. I had the taro ball and sweet potato ball but it was disgusting. I might try their shaved ice. their expensive shaved ice. It cost me USD1 in Taiwan for the same thing… it was like $ 3 or $ 4 here.

I love their Taro ball and sweet potato ball shaved ice! It is kind of pricey for what it is but I miss my Taiwanese treats and this has got me through my crave! The portion is big so I recommend sharing among 2 people unless you are really in a sweet kick.

Milk shaved ice! Ingenious! Also Milk Tea shaved ice as well. Great sharable dessert so when you divvy it up the $ 5.00+ dessert is worth it. Each order comes with three toppings not including evaporated or condensed milk.

So i knew I wanted shave iced and after looking that Snopo menu I was confused and decided to go here. They had a simple menu (the numbering of the menu was kinda weird though) and I ended up getting the fruit shave ice. The service was kinda slow and I was tempted to forget my shave ice because the stall was located next to the door that I belived lead to the trash. Because of that whenever the door was open that were be an awful order –_​-​«.
The portion was great! We were able to feed four ppl for only 6 – 7 buck!!! :) The fruits were fresh and it was just yummy!!!

The mango snow ice was so good. It reminded me of what I had when visiting Taiwan. The mango flavored ice was fluffy and topped with generous portion of mango, mango pops, and jelly plus a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Mango itself was ripe and juicy.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect Taiwanese shaved ice.
After entering New World Mall, going down the escalator your first image is Ponji and the long line of people ordering or perhaps waiting for their orders. The service is quite slow and the menu is rather confusing about the toppings. We ended up getting grass jelly, Mango, Red bean, green bean, and condensed milk. And the other order was mango flavored ice with mango sorbet, mango slices, and lychee bubbles.
The ice wasn’t as fluffy or «Snow-​like» as my favorite so far (Woolys Ice). Condensed milk was also not proportionally applied for the first dish. And the other was overly mango flavored Ice it made me sick. Wasn’t what I expected but still pretty decent/​average.

I don’t get this trend. If I were still in my teens and my taste buds were childish, then I would give it a passing grade. It just tastes artificial, nothing seems fresh, and it’s not visually appealing. It’s served on a cheap paper plate that barely holds the dish, and they just pile stuff on that don’t complement each other.
No suggestions here…

Mango shaved ice is better than strawberry shaved ice. The texture of the mango shaved iced is more sparse while the strawberry shaved ice is kind of icy. So I recommend mango.
Maybe because Ponji was busy on the day we got our strawberry shaved ice so the quality diminished. On a weekday, the food court is less busy so they will take more time and effort to do your order.

I have to say that after having tried Snopo’s snow ice or whatever that monstrosity is called, my peeps & I will safely «PASS» on this dessert in the future. Thankfully, Ponji also serve good old fashioned shaved icy… whiew!
Their shaved ice is ground more fine than several other places I’ve been to. It’s actually the style I knew, growing up in Taiwan, which looks like a mound of snow, and not coarse that you see the ice bits. It’s $ 3.25 for 3 toppings, not counting condensed milk, and feeds about 2 – 3.
How we usually customize our icy:
Bean icy (This is the more rich and heavier in comparison icy) — any of the peanut/​red/​green/​kidney beans, taro, with tapioca or pudding, with grass jelly or non-​fruity jelly, and condensed milk.
Fruit icy (This is the refreshing lighter dessert in comparison icy) — any of the fruits (pineapple, mango, strawberry, etc), with any jelly (especially lychee or coconut jelly! Aiyu or aloe when available), and sugar syrup.
They have specialty items like «strawberry beans» and «mango beans», and hazelnut caramel jelly that we’ve not seen anywhere else. Drop some in your order if you dare!

SNOW ICE? I’ve heard of this refreshing dessert before but never tried it until now. I’ve always had the typical Taiwanese style shaved ice with toppings. I know they have places in Houston, but I’ve never seen this in Dallas. But now that I’m in NY, time to eat away! lol. This was my first time actually having a «snow ice» type of deal. All my friends say it was delicious so i decided to finally give it a try at PONJI.
ATMOSPHERE:
Flushing Golden Mall Food Court. Large, Open, Clean, Casual.
FOOD:
I’d have to describe snow ice as a milk based/​flavored ice. The friend I was with we ordered the strawberry/​mango based one and the first several bites were delicious. However unlike shaved ice, after a while, it was just too sweet and you need water to offset it or something like water. I know some people may just order the ice and maybe that was why we just couldn’t finish the whole thing. We had all these extra syrup/​condensed milk type of toppings and it was just a whole bunch of sweet on sweet. I’ve seen people just order and eat the milk based ice by itself and that’s probably what we should have done. It wasn’t the most jaw dropping first experience but I can see how people go gung-​ho over this on a hot scorching day. It is refreshing to watch how they make it and I would come back to have some more. I don’t know if this place is the best place to have this but it’s not bad.
SUMMARY:
Refreshing, Taiwanese style dessert. A must have from any place on a hot day or just needing some sort of dessert to ease your sweet tooth.
