Fitness 19

Bummer! Around the middle of December, the start of the Christmas Holidays, I went to go to my gym and they were locked up and closed for an unannounced remodel. Closed for over a month! No notification just closed. No offer for credit. I’ve been trying to contact the owner with hand written notes but he does not respond. It’s been over a month and the gym is open, but the bathrooms are still closed. The gym is okay, but the owner has treated his customers with such a lack of concern, I’ve decided quit his gym. I’m going to head over to the new Crunch gym on Douglas and Sierra College. Make sure you get everything in writing with this gym, they run a flakey operation.

I definitely will be looking for a new gym. Fitness 19 in Folsom closed for renovations on 12/​14/​2015 and it still hasn’t reopened as of 1÷5÷2016. That hasn’t stopping them from taking the full months membership payment. I left four messages on four separate days to have the manager call me. He never did. Today I went to the gym as their signs on the door in December said they would be finished by ¹²⁄₂₉. Big surprise, it’s still closed. At least I finally met the manager, Todd. That was a shock. He looked like he was 19 years old and should have been working at a McDonald’s. When I asked him why he never returned my calls he said he didn’t have a phone. Really? What was that I was calling you on and leaving messages… two tin cans and a string? Todd’s stupid response brought the owner, Rafael, to the door. When I asked him how he could substantiate charging members for a month when the gym was not available for use, he just shrugged and said I could go to the nearest other Fitness 19 in Fair Oaks. Here’s news for you Rafael, that is over 13 miles one way from my house in Folsom. I didn’t sign up for a 25 minutes drive to a gym. I asked you three times about charging members for a month they couldn’t use the gym and you just kept dodging the question. I was of such little interest to you, you didn’t even ask my name.
I don’t think he should get away with defrauding the membership. One persons months membership doesn’t make it worth going after him legally, but if all of the membership got together we could have a class action suit against him. I got back in on a promotion for $ 10/​month, so my 4.5 stars is kind of based on what you get for what you pay. No, this gym doesn’t have a pool, a sauna, showers, smoothie machines, or magic shows, but it is a pretty good place to work out indoors when it’s cold AF outside.
This has now become my new favorite location for a few different reasons. First, my old favorite location is now permanently closed. Second, this is the only location where I have found a cross-​trainer machine, which is kind of like a cross between an elliptical and a StairMaster. It’s one of my favorite machines ever. Third, they just had a remodel, and that probably means they’re just somehow better, right?
The best thing about Fitness 19 is that there are a lot less creeps than there are at other gyms where I’ve worked out. For the most part, people just mind their own business. You can stretch near other people and not have to worry that they’ll stand there and stare at you or bust out their phone and take pictures or talk loudly about how they used to use the rowing machine incorrectly like that girl over there while you are the only person using the only rowing machine in the building.
Not that that’s ever happened to me, or anything.

I like Fitness 19 because it is an affordable place, close to home, that’s not too busy and where I can just go in and get out and not pay extra for amenities like a pool that I don’t use. I took off 1 star because the short hours they are open (especially weekends) and another star because they are not very good at keeping members up to date if there is a change in hours. They will post papers around the gym notifying members that they will be closed/​changing hours but for those who have been out of the gym for some time, we show up to a closed gym unaware. It would be nice to receive an email update for these occasions.

My wife and I stopped into the gym in December of 2014 to cancel our membership. The kid that helped me had me fill out a small form and said he would take care of it. 8 months later I noticed a charge from Fitness 19 on my bank statement and upon further investigation found they had been charging me the whole time. Shame on me for not keeping a better eye on things. I talked to the manager (Todd) and he treated me like I was lying. He said he had no record of it and asked me if I had my receipt from my cancellation which is a tiny yellow carbon copy, I have no idea where it went. Not only did Todd forgive none of my membership fees he charged me an additional month of fees in order to cancel… and treated me like a criminal in the process. I tried contacting corporate customer service and there is none.

Great small gym. No sauna or pool but I’m interested in working out not hanging out in the sauna. Great price compared to big gyms.

This is a smaller gym, no pool or sauna, but I love coming here… Not to mention the lowest prices around! The staff is friendly & my trainer Mike is awesome all around! The machines are clean & the floor is always clean! They have a good selection of machines & weights… A good amount for how big the gym is. I love the fact that it’s an older crowd… Not a bunch of «meat heads» that stare & grunt while your working out. I previously belonged to 24 hour fitness & canceled w/​in a few months & joined here. I’ll happily continue working out here until I move out of the area!

Terrible Gym, overcharged continually. They charge you a large once a year fee, no matter when you join, even if you join one week before the one-​year fee, you still get charged for it. The people that work here are unreasonable, impossible to talk to, and you’d be so much better off at any other gym in Northern California. Don’t waste your time here!

This is the worst gym that I have ever been to!!! super small and all equipments are very old! the price might be tempting at first but not until you get hit by all the hidden charges later on so if decide to join be careful!

The gym has what you need to get in a solid workout, has low membership fees, a diverse group of people there for various goals and is typically never too busy. Staff are friendly and the trainers seem to have a solid foundation in the club. Members are also friendly to one another regardless of fitness status, which we all know of pretty rare!

I went to join today after I stopped by yesterday. It’s a smaller place with no frills and limited equipment. They have so many «specials» it was hard for the kid at the front to know which one to offer.
Because the pricing seemed a little inconsistent and lacked transparency so weI kept on looking.

Some of the comments here are pretty laughable. If you want to come to the gym and not have to see the «Meatheads» that actually work out every day and not feel like being insecure about your weight because you eat Mc Donald’s all the time then you should sign up for Planet Fitness. They have pizza Fridays and also give out free bowls candy. They encourage you to be a fat ass, while at the same time making you feel a little better about yourself because you can tell people «I went to the gym.» Even though you only walked on the treadmill for 10 minutes and ate 3 slices of pizza. Now to continue on to my review of Fitness 19. The location is excellent for the surrounding Folsom/​Orangevale border lining area, I happen to live down the street so it is incredibly convenient. It’s a fairly small gym, but it has all the necessities for a good work out. However, you will find it’s busiest times are between 5 — 8 pm and it can be frustrating to have people taking up the dumbell/​bench area. Most people generally keep to themselves, but of course when there’s a fine girl sporting yoga pants it’s inevitable guys will be staring down their vaginas. I’d give this gym an overall ⁷⁄₁₀ for overall effectiveness for your daily work out. Unfortunately, they do lack quite a bit as it is a small gym compared to 24 hour fitness. I also have a membership to 24 hour super sport in Folsom because sometimes I get off late at night and fitness 19 closes around 6pm on the weekends and 10 pm on the weekdays, which should be changed to 12 am at the least. I also find this gym to be quite discriminatory when it comes to hiring, I would not apply here if you are a unfit guy that doesn’t work out or if your an ugly, fat ass girl. Once in a while they will have raffles for prizes, and you will witness how truly pathetic some people are by showing up in normal clothes and not even working out. I’d give this a better review if this gym had better customer service, if the employees actually re-​racked the equipment instead of waiting until the end of the day, and if the male employees didn’t constantly fraternize with younger females trying to get a workout. Observe and you’ll notice these nuisances.

It’s a nice size. Not too big or too small for my taste. I got a great deal: six months for $ 80!

Fitness 19 is conveniently located with a friendly staff. I have been working out there since last October and have been working with Darren, a personal trainer for just over two months with fantastic results. Darren is extremely knowledgeable and professional, I highly recommend him if ypu are looking for a persoanl trainer.

Great price, convenient location, and a wide selection of equipment. The machines are always in impeccable condition, and I never have to wait. This definitely has a «small gym» feel. Marisa at the front desk was very friendly, helpful and accommodating when I came in to check out the gym and ultimately signed up.

You can’t beat the price and the fact that it’s not insanely busy in here. They don’t have showers, which is fine (who wants to use a public shower anyway? Gross). It’s nice to walk in to the gym, and be greeted by friendly/​helpful faces. I do not understand why some of these people are giving such a bad review. 19/​mo is very affordable, every gym charges some sort of enroll fee, and the only clubs that don’t charge first and last month lock you in to a long term contract. Overall I am very pleased with my experience here, and I can’t wait to get my workout in tomorrow!

I signed up for Fitness 19 in response to their $ 7/​$ 7 ad.
Since fitness 19 is not straight up with their pricing breakdown, I will give the full breakdown for you. The ad that pops up the most says $ 7/​month and $ 7/​initial fee. That sounds great! But wait, the fine print says «limited membership.» It turns out that this means one location from 5 am to 1 pm. Not sure how many people walk in after seeing that ad and expect to hear that they HAVE to get their workout within an awkward eight-​hour window. I will guess: not many. That’s ok. I expect some BS with my gym advertisements.
Hey, guess what! The sales rep will direct you to a second option: a $ 17/​month, $ 17/​initial fee. Doesn’t that sound great? Oops, you have to pay first and last month up front, so that’s $ 56 out the door. But wait, there’s an annual fee approaching $ 50. They won’t tell you about until after they’ve shown you the $ 56. And what do you know, that annual is automatically charged to your card the month after you join. Suddenly you’re wondering what happened to $ 7 and $ 7. They’re not. They weren’t really planning to give that to you in the first place. Surprise!

I left the «big gym» because they were too dang expensive and their child care was horrible for a child with certain needs. Fitness 19 is all you need if you’re truly working out. I have never had any problems with their equipment, never had to wait for equipment to be available and their child are is great because there are only 3 ADULT caretakers that work in there and they know each child and their specific needs. (Unlike the «big gym» who has a high turn around rate of nothing but teenagers who couldn’t care less about someone’s child.)
I do miss the classes and showers sometimes, but I can workout on my own and because I got an even better price than $ 19 for being a Veteran, I’m not complaining. This place is for those who need to work out and get in shape and not go broke trying to do it.

I use to have a membership with a gym that cost four times as much but the amenities offered did not justify the additional cost. Fitness 19 meets my needs at a price I am happy with. I like to just go in, workout, and leave. The hours work for my schedule and they have the equipment I need to do my routine.
I know that this gym is bare bones… but do you really need a massage parlor, a sauna, and an on-​site health bar to workout? I’m actually thankful that this gym does not have those things to distract me. I do wish they had a shower facility on-​site but it’s not a deal breaker. If you’re serious about just working out this is the gym for you. If you want a day at the spa… you’re going to need to go elsewhere.

While this gym was cheap, you sacrificed cleanliness and any type of personable customer service. I was really upset to find out that even though I’d let staff know I was moving, they hadn’t told me I needed to give 30 days notice *in writing* to terminate my contract, and I ended up having to pay for an extra month. I’m still not sure if the staff was that stupid or just total scam artists.
I should also mention this gym was full of some fairly creepy meatheads that made it really uncomfortable to work out as a girl in her mid-​twenties. Eyes on you constantly. I wouldn’t suggest it for girls who want privacy or parents who want their daughters in a non-​threatening environment. This place gave me the creeps and the parking lot and surrounding roads were too empty to feel fully safe coming or leaving. I say this after having lived in NYC and Chicago.
