History

Established in 1999.

Grand Automotive opened its doors in Foothill Ranch in 1999. Before then, Grand Automotive was located in Santa Ana CA on Grand Ave, hence the name Grand Automotive. Since then, Grand Automotive has grown to become a neighborhood Auto Service and Repair facility serving the city of Foothill Ranch, Lake Forest, Rancho Santa Margarita, Trabuco canyons and other surrounding localities. Grand Automotive has estabilished Corporate discount programs with many local businesses such as Atkinson Constuction Co, Black & Decker and Oakley. Grand Automotive has recently launched its Texeco Quick Express Lube shop where on the go drivers can stop by and get a quality oil and filter service in less than 30 minutes. All of our services include a free hand car wash through our next door business partners the Foothill Ranch Auto Spa. Business Owner

John Kabbani graduated from California State University in 1999 where he earned his BS in Business Administration, specializing in Human Resources Management. After gaining work experience in Corporate America, he sought to realize the American Dream and ventured into taking on Grand Automotive in 2003. Since then, John has taken on a rigorous hands on training in Automotive Diagnostics and Training at various Southern California Institutes and became a certified Smog Technician in 2004 satisfying the California Bureau of Automotive Repair ASE curriculum. John S. Kabbani has served in the United States Army as a reservist and was honarably discharged in 2009.

John and his crew at Grand have been awesome over the years. We have taking all of our cars and trucks here for everything from power window repairs and suspension work to oil changes and smog. I could write a book about our positive experiences and would definitely recommend them. We always experience straight forward repairs, fair pricing and friendly staff. First off, let me start by saying that, initially, I was pleased with this place. This review is a few weeks overdue (this story occurred on April 2) but much needed, I think, so no one else has the awful experience I had.
I called and mentioned having a groupon for an oil change; was initially told the entire day was full but then told I could only be squeezed in at 2 o’clock on Saturday because they close at 2:30 (this confused me since online hours said till 3, I think). I said that 2 was fine and came in. Everything seemed fine after my oil change.
I drove to visit my parents and, when leaving, was told that my oil was leaking and that perhaps the bolt underneath wasn’t tightened. Concerned, I looked up another place and drove there (Mission Auto Service, for anyone wondering, they were fantastic) and explained that my oil was leaking less than an hour after getting an oil change.
They tell me, after inspecting, that not only was my cars bolt not tightened, but that my car, which should only hold 3 quarts of oil, was overfilled to 6! How do you completely forget to tighten the bolt AND overfill my car? Thank god that it was leaking, apparently, to drain out some of the excess oil when I was driving. Ridiculous, will never be back and will never recommend.

John the owner was awesome! Got a full synthetic oil change off of groupon and it was half the price compared to other automotive places. Although I should have booked an appointment, I didnt and he was able to get me right in. Great lounge area so I could get some work done and I will def be coming back!

This is my first ever review on Unilocal and I am glad to give it to John Kabbani. I had recently come to him for help on my 2010 VW Jetta S. First it was about my smog check. My engine light was on so he was very clear on what would need to happen to pass my smog test. So we did a quick inspection and he provided me an explanation of what needs to get done. Long story short, my smog test passed and I thank John for helping out.
Next, my brakes were destroyed (completely my fault) and from the get go he was extremely accommodating to my needs and circumstances regarding having my brakes pads and rotors replaced. He explained the quality and pricing options for me and what would fit my budget. The work was done and I feel confident in John.
During that time, He and his mechanic did a FULL INSPECTION on my car since I told him it had been awhile since I had scheduled one. I wasn’t even asking him to do it! I just mentioned I should get it scheduled and He graciously did it and the cost for the inspection would be put towards whatever repairs are needed. For example the inspection is $ 90 by itself and say he found the oil pan leaking and itd cost $ 150. Well the $ 90 goes towards the $ 150 so no extra charges were incurred! I really believe he is all about helping me save money and taking it step by step.
In addition to that, I am a very inquisitive person and he as well as his mechanic were more than willing to actually show me the problems they found in the full inspection and the previous jobs. They brought me to see my car over and under and pointed out the problem, explained worst case scenarios and best options. And they didn’t push me to get it done right away or get other work done. They brought the facts gave their suggestion and waited on my response. The whole time there was no sales push. Just facts, suggested solutions and my final decision.
During my whole experience they were able to give me a car to drive because I had work!!! It wasn’t the newest coolest car but the fact they let me use the rental car at no extra charge helped SO MUCH!!!
So far I trust John and his mechanic with my car’s lifespan. I will continue to take my car to his shop and have the confidence that my money is going towards a great honest business.
I have read the other reviews below but until I come across an issue I stand on my experience that John and Grand automotive are doing an excellent job. HIGHLY SUGGESTED!

I have been taking my cars here since they opened and always find John to be on top of things and gives me a good price and good service. He takes care of his customers, I will keep coming back for all my service. It’s a small shop and does not look neat and clean but they are working on cars and I expect it to look like garage. These guys do good work.

First time taking my car here. Probably the easiest car maintenance experience I have ever had. Called a couple places, it always takes hours and they are always busy, called Grand Auto and he told me to come by when ever I want, it will take 30 minutes and only cost $ 40 for an oil change, tire rotation, filled up my tires and wiper fluid. Owner was very nice. Great experience.

First time taking my car here and my experience was overall good. They told me it would take 45 min which ended up 1.5 hours. It was the first work day after july 4th weekend so I was not pissed. They were slammed but still took me in at the last minute. I also saved some cash by checking in with Unilocal.
The poor reviews talk about missing or lost paperwork, I believe they got better. They looked at my paperwork and handed it back over to me before even taking my car in. Mistakes happen so I encourage to check them out for yourself.

I came here today for a smog check, for the first time. The guy told me it would take approximately 45 minutes. Well, an hour goes by and John, who was helping me stated, «your car is done… but we have a little problem. I gave some other customer your DMV paperwork by accident.» So, needless to say I was very irritated. I am never going to come here again. Oh, but I did get a whopping $ 5 off for the inconvenience.

Took car here to get smoged, stayed open late just to test for me. Failed test. Came back multiple times to diagnose and recheck, care more about me getting my car fixed than just making money off of me as they gave options to get parts cheaper. They treated me well in a time of need, was always friendly and understanding, and reasonably priced. Car passed smog and engine light off for first time in 4 years, for hundreds less than it could have cost. Very grateful.

I have been going to this shop since 2008 and stopped going there in 2012 because of endless mistakes they made. The list is SO long but some of the major ones include charging me 850 $ for major services when my car hit 100k miles and then finding out three months later from Honda dealership that the work was never done (honda had plenty of proof). When I took this to john he said it was a «mistake» but never gave me my money back. He also put the wrong battery on my car, wrong tires, and wrong brakes all at different instances. These mistakes cost me 100s of dollars to fix after getting ripped off.
This shop will do anything to get a little more money out of someone. They take advantage of women and will lie about services they do to charge you more.
I continued to go to this shop because I thought all shops make mistakes. Once they made over 15 mistakes I realized that they are intentionally screwing me over.
I highly recommend you do not take your car here. It will cause many more problems in the future!

The owner, John, is a nice enough guy, but his mechanics are idiots! Took my car to get smog checked and it failed for excessive NO output. Took the car back to Grand Automotive and John was honest enough to admit his mechanic forgot to connect a vital hose that caused the sensor to go off… engine warning light. He still charged me for the oil change. Having had previous overlooked detail issues at his shop, I’ve lost confidence in his business. Skip this place and save yourself a headache.

This place had good reviews stating how fast the service is. WRONG!
I was there for 2 hours.
When my smog check was done, I signed the papers and the owner said my car was in the garage, and my keys in the ignition. I found that rather odd, when everyone else had their car pulled out, and brought to the front for them.
They also misplaced my registration paperwork. They had to find it, and that took another 10 minutes.
NEVER AGAIN.
