The food is good but it’s a bit pricey. Their sushi rolls are fresh and delicious.

This place is under new ownership. Went because we were in the area and this was our go-to spot for good sushi. Unfortunately the menu isn’t the same — they only have maybe 4 or 5 specialty rolls and none were even close to what we used to get from at least a page before. We were so disappointed that after looking at the menu we decided to leave. I wish them the best but I don’t think we’ll return for a while.

This place was pretty cool. Food was good. They accommodated well to our group of 12 — they even gave us all free dessert! =D Though I would definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area, I still favor Chikurin Japanese Restaurant a few blocks away.

Good sushi, not the best, but I would recommend this place. It has a nice atmosphere, there is a big outside seating area. The service was slow.

If you are looking for a sushi place that won’t get you sick, but is nothing special, Tako Sushi is your place. They have the standard California, Boston and Philadelphia rolls. They have a lot of the standard japanese entrees. They also give you a shot glass of watered down plum wine at the end of your meal. Won’t get you sick, but won’t make you crave more.

Every time my friend and I come here we always end the night by saying that was good but we’re not coming back because it was too expensive… yet we always somehow come back for another meal. Yes, we call it the overpriced sushi place, but it’s really very good. The service could be a bit more attentive, but the sushi and other Japanese dishes there are great. The fourth star is just for the fried ice cream. I think that’s half the reason we go is for that. The best I’ve ever had hands down. Try it but just know they are a bit pricey.

My mum and I came here for a quick and early dinner. The place is narrow and slightly dark since it’s sub-ground with a window in the front. The menu is Americanized with their teriyaki entrees, udons, rolls, salads, etc. Service was hit-and-miss. We got seaweed salad, beef negimaki(scallions rolled with beef), boston roll, and phoenix rolls. Everything was decent except the beef was saltier than expected. Overall, an ok experience for a quick dinner and possibly take-out, but for authentic sushi, I’d opt for somewhere else.

My wife and I regularly eat at Tako and always have a good meal. Robbie and Christine(owners) and all the staff are consistently friendly and attentive. He regularly hooks us up with some of his new creations(Robbie was trained at French Culinary Institute). Food and Sushi are also consistently good. My favorites are the tako Knockout and the salmon dinner(with avocado on top). Wife usually gets the sashimi platter. they also have an outdoor garden which is nice in the warm weather. Its is definitely not gourmet, but the prices are reasonable, food is fresh and consistent, and staff is friendly. thumbs up in my book.

Another place I had passed by that had caught my attention for a place to have a good lunch. I finally had time and grabbed my girlfriend for a quick bite. Let me tell you I was extremely disappointed by the entire experience. When you walk in your greeted with signs of really good lunch specials especially the pitcher of beer deals. I can’t remember the exact price for the pitcher of beer but it did seem like a good deal until we got it to the table. I poured me and my girl a drink and the whole pitcher was practically gone we barely got 3 glasses out of it. Next we look at the menu and decide to order two of there sushi rolls and a lunch combo each. We got the Spicy Yellow Tail roll and a Lobster Roll that was on there specialty menu. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Special and she ordered the Japanese Friend chicken Ben to Box. First Before we get our food brought out I want to point out we were the only non served customers in the restaurant. As we waited for our food the waitress walked past me and on 2 separate occasions didn’t even acknowledge me asking her for more water. Then as she walked past me the second time I saw the sushi chef finish our rolls and put them on the counter to be brought to us. The waitress walked right past them and back into the kitchen. She came back out like two minutes later with our hot food order and gave them to us then walked back to the register completely ignoring our sushi. We started eating and when she finally walked back I stopped her and asked her to bring us the rest of our food order. I wish I hadn’t… The Lobster roll was soft and mushy and extremely bland. The Spicy Tuna roll was not Spicy and I had asked for it to be a crunchy roll and there was nothing. Over Chicken triadic was ok and my girlfriends chickens taste was a little off but the rice was definitely good. Unfortunately for a place like Austin street with a ton of eateries this is one I will be living without.

I thought I had reviewed this place before … but I guess I didn’t. Tako Sushi is a little bit pricey, but it’s «Forest Hills price» so it’s not too bad. The extra $ you pay for your dish is reflected on their service and quality. Sushi and sashimi are always fresh. My favorite roll to order there is the octopus roll. They also have really good yaki udon!

I decided to come here with my girlfriend because I bought a groupon coupon. The reviews weren’t too good on Unilocal,so I was a little worried that I wasted money. The sushi restaurant is located on the basement level of a building on austin street. If you have never been to Forest Hills, austin street has alot of small shops and restaurants. I guess its like the main street of Forest Hills. Anyway, getting back to my review of this place. We ordered the sushi and sashimi for 2 which was about $ 56. It was a little pricey but since we had the groupon it wasnt too expensive. The sushi came out on a boat. We were a little surprised with the fancy arrangement. The restaurant didn’t look fancy at all, so were a little surprised. The sushi and sashimi was not bad and portions were decent. We also had tempura appetizer and a beer. Actually the tempura was not bad at all. Overall I would rate this place a 3 because the food was good but not great. Also the prices were a little high for this type of restaurant. I think it is owned by japanese person. The service was very good. I am not sure if I would go there without the groupon.

Tako Sushi is one of my favorite sushi places. The wait staff is always super friendly and attentive but not overly so. I love rolls and the selection of rolls is more than enough to satisfy whatever mood I’m in, whether it be sweet and light(the Florida roll) savory(the Forest Hills roll), or spicy(the Tako Knock Out or the Wasabi roll). The flavors of the rolls are multilayered and never boring. They’re always creative, delicious, and fresh. Fortunately, I’ve never experienced any kind of sanitation issue when I went there nor have I experienced eating frozen seafood there. In addition, after reading Iman A’s review on Tako, I went to the NYC Department of Health website to look up Tako Sushi and found the first inspection they got was a 48, the second, a 23, and the last a 17. They have never gotten a 77 or an 85! In fact, according to their scores, they’ve only gotten cleaner and better about their establishment. It’s one thing to state your opinion and a whole other to lie and damage reputations.

I’ve decided to edit my original review and have done so several times. I upped the rating from 3 to 4 because not only do I want to support local establishments, but most importantly the food is also actually pretty good. We come eat here on average maybe once a month. Why? 1. It’s right next to the gym and we’ll come here for dinner 2. Compared to other Japanese establishments on/off-of Austin St, this place is far better 3. The wait staff are great to us: very attentive and always friendly I’ve read others’ complaints about the cleanliness of the establishment and fortunately I’ve never seen any roaches or had similar problems although being located in a basement can’t help very much. Our experience is always extremely pleasant. The wait staff are on top of things, the presentation of the food is always nice(if not downright creative) and most menu items we’ve ordered have been good. We’ve never experienced any piece of bad fish here, ever. Overall, I really like this place. Bang-for-buck, I think this place is great.

This place is a dump. The fish they receive is frozen and of very low quality. Last time I ate there the fish came out frozen. I bit into ice! to add to the damage I got food poisoning. The food is not fit for human consumption. The establishment is filthy. This place needs a serious make-over or it needs to be shut down!

Although the name might suggest some kind of Mexi-Japanese experience(think about it…), this place is just a good everyday Sushi joint. If you want to get 5-star sushi and the whole Japanese experience, jump the E-train to Chelsea and go to Morimoto. But if you want some decent sushi in Forest Hills, then Tako is always good, has a big menu(including a really good Roast Duck roll, if you are not a fan of the raw gear) and the service is attentive and courteous. Tonight they even gave us some complementary green tea pudding because we’ve been in a few times now. One of these days we’ll try Green Sky, the attached Korean joint — but every time we say that, we end up back at Tako, which is as good a credit as any restaurant could hope for.

I’ve eaten here a few times, but the food is inconsequential after what happened at the end of my last visit. We had finished eating and were waiting for the check when a baby roach zipped across the tabletop in front of me. Just what you want to see after eating an uncooked meal. Unfortunately, I spent much time schmoozing with roaches at a former job. And although some may say, «Oh it was a baby, no big deal, at least it wasn’t a huge roach!» Unfortunately, this is when you have to worry. :( That baby roach was a just born tiny spec, not some fat old roach that I could delude myself had wandered in from outside or something… which means the roaches here are healthy and laying eggs. And he was fast… I wish I didn’t know this either but, if the place is being exterminated and food is being sealed and everything thoroughly cleaned, they get sluggish and weak. Gross. Thus ends my course in Roachology 101: P

In the basement level of this shopping center is a perfectly fine sushi place. If I lived nearby I’d probably get dinner from here often. Since I live 45 minutes away I doubt I’ll come again, but it is with a pang of regret that I write that. Miso was laskluster but fine, spicy tuna roll was fresh and spicy and very good. At the end of my small meal I think the waitress saw me linger(I had to kill 30 minutes before a surprise party at Bartini… a whole other nightmarish story to come) and before I had opportunity to ask for the check, she brought me a free green tea crêpe with banana and nutella. Thanks nice lady! If it wasn’t quite so strip-mall standard Japanese restaurant catalog looking and the miso a little more interesting we’d be at four stars, easy. But this three star review is written with love, if that counts for anything.

The Tako Knock Out roll is quite good. Spicy salmon is not bad either. Salmon could be fresher though. Other than that, it’s just like any other Chinese run sushi joint. Just okay and unfortunately just as forgettable.

After being a fatty today and eating only a big ass cookie from Levain and two granola bars, I decided that a healthy enough meal would be sushi. I knew this place existed but I haven’t been here yet in my near year of living here. So, I checked this place out. I ordered the Tuna Dinner(seven pieces of tuna with a tuna roll) with a side salad. I don’t know if the waitress did this because me and a friend were the only two people in the joint or this is common practice, but she gave us free French Onion Soup and a Green Tea Crème Brulee. Both were really good, as was my Tuna party. The fish was fresh, and it filled me up aplenty. The waitress was really nice and attentive, so I tipped her really well. I’m curious about the emptiness of Tako, though. Maybe it was because it was 6:45 on a Tuesday night? I don’t know. Seemed fishy.

What can I say… This place is ehh. Nothing to go out of your way for. The service was definitely lacking, the prices where not too high or low but I still felt kinda jipped at the end of the night. The rolls where … alright but really, I can find better ones at another sushi spot further up in Forest Hills. The ambiance was blah, especially in the back next to the kitchen, it was just so quiet, not even ambiance music to fill in the mood. Now that I think about it, I didn’t really like this place at all. If it hadn’t been for the good company and their one saving grace, the plum wine, I would have just walked out.
