I used to love this place however with new owners it has gone down hill. The chicken is cheap and there is enough sodium in the food to raise your blood pressure on the spot. It is too bad what has happened to this once delightful place.

Tokyo Teriyaki was a relieving find, amidst the pricey eateries that dot Forest Hills. If you only have $ 10 bucks on you, then most of the items listed on the menu here will fit your budget. My friend and I were craving Onigiri after kickboxing, but we didn’t feel like going all the way to Yaya’s. That’s when Tokyo Teriyaki is supposed to come through, but they don’t make that stuff, oddly enough for a Japanese-based restaurant. Instead, we opted for two different Katsu sandwiches: chicken and salmon. My friend and I exchanged half of our sandwiches, and I pretty much liked both. They were wonderful! Both of the chicken and salmon were steaming hot and generously breaded. The chicken in the Chicken Katsu Sandwich was juicy and tender, and the salmon in the Salmon Katsu sandwich, likewise. However, they’re still two very different proteins, so texture and taste was different. You definitely have to try the sandwiches! It’s a nice little meal to have after a workout, or to curb hunger pangs. Would come back here again to try some of the other stuff, if I were in the area.

Ordered the curry beef bento box lunch special. It came with 6 pieces of california roll, white rice, and salad — everything was mediocre at best and i was starving. Heard the sushi is good, not sure if ill go back to try anything more from this place.

Fries aren’t good. Spicy tuna sushi didn’t look good but tasted okay. And omg don’t even get me started on the burger. I hated the burger. The chicken teriyaki burger. Just go to mcdonalds and order a chicken burger or something because the chicken tasted raw.

I’ve tried it three times, trying to cut them slack since they have good reviews. The first time, I had the tofu teriyaki. It just wasn’t very good, especially as compared to the same item at other local sushi restaurants. It was just as flavorless as any other bad tofu you’ve ever had. The second time, I had a sushi lunch combo, and it was decent, but not five stars. The third time, I ordered katsu online, and got katsu curry instead. I wasn’t sure if they had messed up or if the menu just wasn’t descriptive enough, so I decided to eat it anyway. I mean, I have nothing against curry, even if I hadn’t intended to order it. Unfortunately, the katsu curry wasn’t any better than the tofu teriyaki. The folks raving about it have me really puzzled. The meat was tough and the sauce was cold and congealed, like a microwave dinner that’s been waiting on the table for half an hour. Blech. The one thing this place has going for it over other local sushi takeouts is that you have your pick of rolls for any of their combos. And the sushi they have is fine. But after two bad experiences, I’m not giving them any more chances.

First time ordering here and it would be my last!!! Where do I begin? The food took over an hour to come than when it finally came the food was very disappointing. The seaweed for the sushi had an old smell to it u couldn’t eat it, the pickled ginger tasted like a wet rag! The hamburger steak was burnt and the chicken Katsu was mushy in nasty sauce! The only thing that was ok was the damn sprite and coke!!!

I was craving katsu so I decided to give this place a try. When you enter in it is very small with only like 2 tables. The chicken Katsu was delicious and came with salad and it was a good portion. I also tried the mushubi which was delicious.

Only rating the Spam Musubi. It was delish, nothing like the one I had in Hawaii, buuuut, close enough. And it’s super cheap! Didn’t had any problem locating the place though I did get lost going home haha. Worry not though — there are plenty of police officers that you could ask for directions if that happens to you too lol

Update! 5÷15÷16 Actually, having gone to Queens Night Market and tried their Spamasubi over there, this one is pretty average. It has little seasonings. It’s definitely better than 7⁄11 spamasubi in Hawaii but it’s actually pretty average and you can make your own it’ll taste better. Ehhh… The star is for the spamasubi. It’s delicious but that’s all the positive things I can say. I won’t be coming here. When you enter, there’s oil barrels leaking. When you come in, it’s a very small area and it feels more like a Chinese fast food restaurant. I ordered chicken teriyaki ramen. I never had as bad of a ramen as this one. The noodle felt like rubber with a plastic aftertaste. I didn’t finish even ¼ of it because of the noodle and the weird peanut buttery paste or something that they added to it. It didn’t feel safe to eat the whole thing to be honest because I was wondering what could they have put in it and if it’s safe to eat. I got into a heated exchange with one of the guys in the front regarding the bill. Just like the other person in here said, RUDERUDERUDE! That turned me off which brings me to a conclusion. It’s basically that sh*tty Chinese place but«Japanese». People don’t take pride in what they do anymore and this place is one of them. It SHOWS in their food. If they don’t care about their customers, what makes you think they’ll care about how clean they make your food??? Or that they cook it the right way? Or that they are not cutting corners like their noodle!!! It’s not even cheap. So, what makes them think they are entitled to price high!!! I guess people around the area compare the prices to the ones in the city? Go to restaurants near Elmhurst Hospital(some along Broadway) I GUARANTEE you best food for the best price. NEVERCOMINGBACK. It’s like fake food to be honest with you. I’ve seen sub par Chinese/Japanese spot make better food and for cheaper price.

Oh Tokyo Teriyaki. If I created a list of the places that make me happiest, you’d surely make Top 10(but putting feelings of familiarity aside…). The food is freshly prepared and well priced. In a world where 1 $ really means 2, Tokyo Teriyaki stays true to being very affordable, delicious and filling. You can’t go wrong with the teriyaki options, the ground beef katsu, I also love the Katsu-don and Katsu curry! There are even healthier options with sushi and salad. It’s definitely a hole in the wall location, pretty small with 2 tables and a counter sitting area. However, there is outdoor seating during the warmer seasons. If going out with friends, I’d limit to no more than 2 – 3. There’s also a restroom, and a tv that usually airs the news or a crime/sci-fi show. And try the Spam Ham musubi! A great small savory snack!

Delivery came far ahead of the estimated time quoted, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the katsu curry and very much enjoyed it. I specifically asked that they package the katsu in a separate container so it wouldn’t arrive soggy, and it was awesome! I thought the serving of chicken looked small at first sight, but it was extremely filling. A little odd that they use super sticky sushi rice with the curry, but not bad. It’s great that you can choose the roll you’d like instead of getting stuck with a boring California roll. I ordered that spam musubi as well. There’s nothing special about rice, teriyaki sauce and spam and yet it’s so addictive and satisfying. They forgot my Snapple but were apologetic and promised to send it over when I ordered. Since I had already decided to order again in the future, that solution worked just find for me.

A cheap and delicious hole in the wall. Most items under $ 10, such a deal. Inside only about 5 – 7 seats, but there’s more seating outside. Street parking. Being that it’s on Austin Street, it’s a little hard to find parking spaces during peak times.

Small eatery located in an alley way! I love the spam musubi! it’s yummy and such a good snack. They have a little seating area outside and a 4 chairs for sushi bar seating. They don’t have AC in the summertime so I usually order to go. I would return in the fall to eat in their outdoor seating area. Not sure if they have table service though.

Found this place easily after reading some tips. The flag behind the police station was spotted as I crossed the street. The Pork Katsu Curry was exactly what I imagined and was very satisfying for the price I paid. I was very excited to try the spam musubi since there aren’t that many places serving them. And making them myself is time consuming. Maybe I was expecting too much but it was a bit disappointing. The rice wasn’t prepared properly and the musubi was falling apart for the most part. I will not be returning for the spam musubi. I will however, return for its meals. Reasonable prices for great portions and variety. The takeout is speedy as well. On a nice day you can also sit outside. There are a few tables and you’re away from the road. Otherwise, the inside area is rather cramped and small.

Came here an hour before closing and it was a little wait for my food. I was in the area and starving so I just ran to the closest plce that was open. I got the Salmon Teriyaki box and it was definitely overpriced($ 7.75). Not to mention that almost 1⁄3 of the box is simply salad. The salmon was good, but the rice was mushy and it looked as if they threw all the sauce they cooked the salmon with right on the rice… not cool. The salad was a very sad salad. Some of the leaves are old and not clean. The space here is very small. The food was ok overall because it sufficed for the starving me, nothing special.

Been meaning to come here forever since bookmarking it when I first started Unilocal! This Japanese/apparently classified as Hawaiian also, fast food place is just ok, but I may need a second visit to boost the rating. It’s really not all that hidden as I expected from all the previous reviews. Literally cannot miss it with its giant Japanese«rising sun» colored sign leading you down an alley adjacent to the police station. – Chicken Katsu — More like mini fried chicken pieces with a weird tangy brown sauce. – Ginger Chicken — Underwhelming and overloaded with too much onion. – Pork Katsu Curry — Straightforward and hard to mess this up. – Spicy Kani roll — 6 pieces but SOOO tiny. Only $ 3.50 – Spam Musubi — This may be the only item that’s «Hawaiian» but $ 2 gets you a quick fix of it. This I’d buy again for sure. There are maybe 2 – 3 tables outside in the alley to eat and inside has 3 tables that sit barely 6 people total. Definite a grab-n-go sorta place. They take credit card though! NOT cash only as Unilocal suggests.

Don’t get me wrong, the food here is good. I had the Pork Katsu Curry, which came with rice and a salad. Additionally, had the Spam Musubi which I loved. The prices are pretty cheap, and the food was satisfying. On the down side? This place is a hole in the wall so it was hard to find and parking took forever. I imagine that it’s a nicer place to be in the summer since they offer outdoor seating. The inside felt pretty small and there isn’t much seating. This place will definitely hit the spot if you have Katsu or musubi!

Just me and my chicken sandwich. This review is a shoutout to all the people tired of going home and having to deal with shit– everybody. Sometimes you just can’t meditate your problems away. Sometimes your credit card bill is due, so you can’t buy those pair of jeans you’ve wanted or you’re girlfriend is one joke away about how much hair you used to have from a joke about how her breast used to be perkier. Don’t blame me, I didn’t invent the ravages of time. And sometimes your landlord stares at you in disgust, as though she’s accidentally seen you masturbate and disapproves of the porn you watch. Sometimes, you really just need to be alone. Past the torii and through the back alley, you might find your Japanese peace in Forest Hills. I like that the menu isn’t extravagant, focusing on foods akin to a Japanese version of a deli. Bacon, egg, & cheese, chicken katsu sandwich, chicken teriyaki sandwich, teriyaki hamburger. I always order the chicken katsu. Once inside, talking is suggested to be kept at a minimum. Kind of like when you and a stranger check out the rear end of a passing female, look at each other and nod. Beyond the sounds of your thoughts(or zen state of mind) the only noise I like to hear is the TV perpetually fixed on the news and the wall mounted fan that buzzes louder and lower in rhythm as it swings side to side. I could be here for hours. Too bad I’m an adult.

An eight minute walk from the Forest Hills E, M, F, R stop… I get to 68 – 60 Austin Ave… Big abandoned dollar store was all I saw. I panicked. Queens County Supreme Court appearances were scheduled for 2:15 and I had time to kill; heck, I planned my trip to Forest Hills from Jamaica for the sole purpose of getting some spam sushi. Panic/shock didn’t set in, as I saw a listed telephone number on the Unilocal page. I called it(«Hail Mary, full of grace…» blah blah). I heard a *click*… «Hai, Tokyo Teriyaki, how may I he-ru-pu yu?» I was ecstatic. I asked«where the heck are you guys!?» To which they responded, «68−60 Austin Ave. by the police station.» Thankfully that was enough guidance, as I just saw a couple cops(police officers, coppers, bulls, the fuzz, the heat, the boys in blue…) walk past me just moments ago. Soon enough, I found the spot! A grandiose bit of walkway/corridor/alley with a huge Japanese gate reminiscent of the ones in Kamakura that stick out like monoliths in the sea. All of this eventually led to to a very unassuming side door, leading into a tiny space consisting of two circle tables and a counter/ordering station. Such a dichotomy, this humble shop versus the pompous path on which we sashay on in order to reach our intended point of arrival. I already knew what I wanted, pork katsudon and spam sushi(musubi!)! That and a bottle of water ran $ 10 even. A pretty damn good deal. Service was fast as f*ck, and soon enough I received the styrofoam treasure chest which held the contents that served as the motivation for my traversal from Jamaica to Forest Hills. The eggs topping the fried pork cutlet(sitting above the bed of rice) were as good as gold, and the side salad had a small container of a delightfully sweet and acidic Asian ginger dressing(one of the best dressing concoctions I have ever tasted, I do not jest). The plastic wrapped spam sushi was just icing on the proverbial cake; it was nice and hot too, would’ve made an excellent hand warmer if I didn’t eat it… I regret nothing. The dudes running the kitchen really know their craft, as this katsudon could easily fit in any donburiya in the land of the rising sun. Nicely silken egg, savory sauce, and the duality of the softness of the egg and the crispy bitty parts(the typical in donburi non-moisturized) of the katsu set everything up perfectly. Best believe I was happy with my meal. By the time I finished and spoke the words«gochisoosama»(Nihongo for«that sh*t was tasty as eff») I was ready to curl in a ball and pass out due to the itis… Alas, I had 4 cases left in the afternoon unfortunately. Did I regret my decision to eat myself to a euphoric comatose state? Nah, not at all. I would do it again, and I believe I will be going here again sooner rather than later!
