Horizons At Fossil Creek

I lived in my apartment for two years and although I have a nice view and its nice and quiet, I have had more negative experiences then I care to have. To start from the beginning when being shown the apartments I was told that my apartment was going to look like the model home. It was going to have the hardwood floor and updated trim and I was very excited about this. When I moved in however, I had carpet and that is not what I was expecting. When I spoke with management, which has been the same two people Dawn (assistant manager) and Arina (property manager), they said excuse the new girl she hasn’t been here long. Little did I know that was going to be a repeated statement over the next two years.
The first incident was shortly after I moved in. My dishwasher stopped working and I had to wait almost a month to get a new one as the dirty water sat and molded in the dishwasher I had. They replaced my dishwasher with a brand new one and that solved my first problem.
The second incident was during the ice storm in 2014. The apartments use gas to heat them and during the coldest part of the year, mine broke and was pouring water off my balcony. I had told them that my heat didn’t seem to be working and had gone to stay at my brothers while this was going on. Nobody notified me while I was away that my water heater had broken and that they replaced it, I found out after it had all happened. It got so cold in my apartment that it froze my daughters fish in an ice block.
Another incident but not in any particular order is the plumbing, it is very old and backs up very easily! When the maintenance guy comes to fix it after my toilet has over flown and flooded my bathroom, he tells me to watch how much toilet paper my daughter uses. I probably use more toilet paper than my daughter and I know how to not plug a toilet. The toilet really could use a snake to clear it out but the maintenance guy never brought one. I don’t know if he doesn’t have access to a snake or he was just lazy.
Not only did I have these incidents but I also had a lot of problems with the apartment in general. There is also a foundation issue which are the pictures I have posted (cracks on all my walls). The stairs leading up to my apartment are separating, the wood at the top of the stairs is cracked and rotting. I was unable to open my door two times because of the foundation change and the maintenance guy came and hammered the door trim up toward the ceiling and replaced my door knob which did solve the problem for me getting into my apartment.
Finally the last straw that made me so upset was when I was deciding to move out. I called and spoke with Otto on March 7 on the phone and the conversation went similar to this:
I called and asked about my lease ending because I got the letter in my door saying my lease will expire on 4÷25÷2015 (I have posted a picture of the notice as well). I spoke with Otto and asked him if I had to wait until my lease was up or if I could give my 30 days notice that is necessary and could move-​out after the 30 days was over. He said that was a great question and put me on hold so that he could «ask his manager.» He came back on the phone after awhile and told me that if I was able to bring a letter in writing to him by the end of the business day then I could move out 30 days from my notice. I stopped what I was doing and wrote out my notice and brought it up to the office. Keep in mind, I was 30 minutes away when I did this. I drove back and turned in my notice, have signed confirmation of my notice from Otto and then went back about my day. Drove 30 minutes back to where I was and started calling my utilities and canceling them for April 6^th. I then receive a voicemail Sunday morning, telling me that my letter was in fact incorrect and that I would be held financially responsible until April 25^th. My anger and frustration is because I spent all this time trying to do things properly and ahead of time, and now I have to spend double that time fixing everything because now I am financially responsible until April 29^th as Arina said on my voicemail even though their letter they sent out says the 25^th.
I am beyond confused, frustrated, and frankly tired of the untrained and new comments that I receive every time I have called the office with an issue. For the amount of money that I have been paying for rent, I don’t believe I should have all these problems. After the first year there my rent went up ⁴⁰⁄₅₀ dollars and then to renew again which would be crazy is another ⁴⁰⁄₅₀ more. I only renewed my lease another year the first time because I didn’t have a place in mind that I wanted to move to. I look forward to the possibility of resolving this with the office and hope the ending is better than the beginning.

how hard is it to accept a package!!! apparently the incompetent staff at the from office find it too difficult to accept a simple ups package!!! every time i order something off of amazon i have to take time off of work to be at home to accept it!!! i have an idea, next time i decide to order a leather coat i’ll just tell them to shrink wrap it and stick it in the 4×4 inch mailbox which is the only size mail i am able to receive in this pathetic dump!!! luxury my ass!!!

I hate this place! I really wanted to give 0 stars and this place deserves it! The management is terrible, authorizing work and not even knowing what is actually happening: maintenance repaired a landing to our upstairs apt and did not attach he staircase to the landing, left plywood for 4 days outside my door, the management did not know when or what was going on, and they did not notify me when the concrete was poured so I was locked out for 6 hours! They also don’t apply security or pet deposits to any work done on the apt after move out and try to charge you $ 1,000. Don’t ever live here, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!!!
