John P Kelly, MD

I woke up this morning (5÷27÷16) and thought about working out my legs today. That then lead me to think about how thankful I am about my knee surgery back in April of 2008. I decided to google Doctor John P Kelly just for the heck of it and couldn’t believe some of the One Star reviews on Google and Unilocal so I decided to write this. I’m one of those people who never really writes reviews but I felt inclined to do so now.
Eight years ago Doctor John P Kelly performed a knee surgery on my left knee. My ACL, medial and lateral were all torn. I remember the staff being really friendly, and my surgery went VERY well. My rehab during the following 6 months was perfect and my knee got a lot stronger. And today my knee feels great and I’ve been able to work it out with no problems. Obviously my surgically repaired knee isn’t as flexible as my other knee (probably my fault for not stretching it as much as I need to) but everything else feels great! Ive been playing basketball again the last 8 years and have had no problems! Thank you Doctor Kelly for fixing my knee. I am VERY thankful!

After fighting to get a referral to see an ortho surgeon after hurting my knee (knee sprain my a$$) I was so so so happy to find Dr. Kelly!
I got an MRI and he told me I had slightly torn my meniscus. I was DEVASTATED!!! I was using my bike and skateboard as mode of transportation. He knew how important it was for me to get back into running ASAP and I wanted to take a holistic approach.
I changed my diet to mainly alkaline foods (to reduce inflammation) and Dr. Kelly, although not very knowledgeable about what I was doing, was very supportive. To have a doctor truly listen is a rarity.
Thank you for being so understanding, not pushing me into a needless life altering surgery and seeming genuinely interested in the route I wanted to go. Of course he recommended rehab which helped tremendously!!!
I would recommend anyone to please take the time (and deal with the sucky staff) to see the greatest example of what a doctor should be!!! In the business of getting you better and taking your wants and needs into consideration. :)

I see the reviews that Dr. John P Kelly knows his stuff but I never really had the chance to find out. I was referred by a friend to check this guy out. I know I have an issue right now with my knee and need to have it looked at asap.
First appointment I had to pay out of pocket till my insurance kicked in. The good thing was he did schedule my follow-​up after my insurance kicked in from new job. I went and got the MRI per his referral and it worked with insurance in network (Cigna). Only problem when I was checking out I had to wait what felt like 10 – 12 minutes standing there waiting for 1 person to go over a calendar schedule with the nurse. I looked around and there was approx. 3 – 4 other nurses up front that I guess could have assisted but it appeared that the person at the end was the only one responsible for checking people out. That was just my observation.
The follow up visit was very disappointing. I showed up 12 minutes early for my 11:10 appt. I signed in and checked the box that said «change to insurance». I wasn’t really greeted by any of the 4 ladies working the front desk. At 11:20 I get called in and told where to go for examination. Waited a few minutes, and I could tell Doc Kelly was in the room just next door. The wait wasn’t too bad. Around 5 minutes go by and to my surprise the man that comes in is not Doctor Kelly. I was expecting Dr. Kelly to give me the results and recommendations for my knee. Instead it was another gentleman who stated he was working under Dr. Kelly. He was a very professional gentleman, pretty young, no lab-​coat or scrubs on, and he definitely wasn’t sure about what to recommend. He even said that he peeked at the radiologists report and that he wasn’t suppose to for whatever reason. He was suppose to make his own prognosis from what he told me. He seemed unprepared and had to look up all my info and what Doc Kelly wrote previously. After reading it he told me I had a 6 mm tear in my meniscus. I asked him what can I do or not do. Surgery wasn’t really necessary and I understood that. All my questions were kind of answered vaguely and it did kind of annoy me. The gentleman then said,“let me go ask Doctor Kelly and see what he would recommend”. A few minutes later he comes back and says,“I can’t find him”. I kept asking more questions about what I can and can’t do and really I could have done this exam myself. All I would of needed was the radiologist report. I was expecting a bit more along the lines of instructions on exercises I could do, maybe a few websites or a physical therapist that could be recommended to to take a look since I had PPO insurance. I got more semi confused looks.
So I check out and wouldn’t you know it. They tried to bill me as a cash patient. i stated to the nurse,“i have changes to my insurance and I have a card now”. The nurse asks,“well did you tell them that when you checked in?”. I said,“No, i signed in and checked the box that said ‘changes to insurance’ and no one talked to me or called my name, nor acknowledge I was there, before I was called into exam room. She happily took care of the issue and I appreciated that. Just wished I was actually acknowledge as more than another insurance claim.
Bottom line my experience was pretty mediocre. I don’t doubt Doctor Kelly is a great surgeon according to my original referral but really my experience was sub par. Thank goodness this wasn’t an urgent painful matter.

I am wondering how some reviews give this doctor more than one star, this office is terrible. i had a friend had a broken arm on Saturday, went to emergency but could not do much and had to go to primary doctor on monday, within few hours got for him an authorization from insurance to go to dr kelly’s office. i called to get an appointment as soon as possible and as soon as they knew that it was a medi-​cal and the insurance company they said only appointment available is after four weeks and when i said it is urgent someone is in sever pair they said call the primary doctor to find you another orthopedic. that is insane.

Our first visit to dr. Kelly’s office was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. But then things went downhill fast! My daughter was scheduled for knee arthroscopy because of pain and mri was inconclusive. Expected to see the doctor after surgery but he never even came back to explain to my daughter or us what was done or why! Prescribed PT and follow up visit. Now she sits in the waiting room for over AN HOUR AND A HALF and another 20 min in a room. Horrible experience and bedside manner. Would never recommend this office to anyone.

He is always in a rush everytime i bring my mom in. He just says everything is fine let me referral you for etc. And thats it! Waste my moms insurance money we been there more than 2 times and same situation.

I needed to find a reliable and honest sports medicine doctor for my back. After a phone call and a quick verification of insurance, I decided to book an appointment with Dr. Kelly because he’s not too far from my home.
Upon arrival, I filled out the standard medical forms as a new patient. They quickly processed my info at the front desk and had me sit in the waiting room. It was a bit crowded and noisy in there, but I was taken in within 15 minutes of my arrival.
They immediately took me in for x-​rays on my hip and back. The doctor came in to see me within 5 minutes of the x-​rays being taken. They were pretty efficient.
Although he didn’t pinpoint exactly what he thought was causing my pain, he did recommend me go through some physical therapy, chiropractic, and massage sessions for eight weeks. He stated that he doesn’t like to recommend surgery as a first option and thought it would be better if I could try to alleviate my pain by trying those options first. I was actually impressed that he would say such a thing. Some doctor’s can be very dishonest just to make a quick buck. I really was expecting him to say I needed some surgery, but he didn’t. I was so relieved that he recommended other options first.
He gave me all the referrals I needed for physical therapy and scheduled a follow-​up appointment with me in two months.
Overall, I was in and out of his office within an hour. I thought I would be there for 2 – 3 hours at the very least, so again, I was surprised at the efficiency.
I was definitely impressed with Dr. Kelly, his professionalism, and his facility. The office was clean and had a happy vibe. The girls at the front desk are personable and verify your information fast. They are young, but the Doc seems to have trained them well in customer service. He even went as far as asking me how I was treated by them before I left.
I will be going back for a follow-​up with him.

His doctor knows his stuff! I went to another doctor before I went to Dr Kelly and was treated pretty poorly. He is kind, knowledgeable, and quick. Great office staff and very nice Physicians Assistant. I’m definitely going to him for all my ortho needs from now on!

I had a bad fall and was sent to Dr. Kelly. From the first moment; through surgery, follow-​ups, and physical therapy. Dr Kelly and his assistant Dr. Lambert took exceptional care of me. I am older and have seldom had a doctor look me in the eye and say, «Do you have any questions?» Dr. Kelly did this. If you need a doctor that sees the person connected to the injury then this is your guy. I had excellent, excellent care and treatment.

No doubt highly competent Very Busy surgeon, BUT follow up and welcoming office sorely lacking. Follow up appointments done by PA, not doctor. Hard to communicate with doctor after surgery. Very busy office shared by two doctors with large office staff, a few of whom are poorly trained in patient relations. Like doctor a lot, but not the factory like environment.

originally went in due to an ankle injury and was offered a boot in place of a cast. took the boot since it was removeable, what they declined to mention was the boot cost $ 560

This is what the problem with the healthcare system is I was seen for 5 minutes thinking I was gonna find the cure to my injury but was told I should try P/​T after a 25 min wait and $ 50 copay. I don’t even think he looked at the DVD of my MRI can’t wait to get the bill for all the tests they did in 5 min I think my doctor could have done the same thing.
