Osmosis features the only Cedar Enzyme Bath in North America, a treatment renowned in Japan for its therapeutic benefits. This five-acre, Japanese-themed day spa in Western Sonoma County also offers a variety of massage techniques (available in an outdoor pagoda!), as well as organic skin care treatments. Complete the experience with a visit to the Meditation Garden for a moment (or an afternoon) of reflection.

History

Established in 1985.

Osmosis founder Michael Stusser discovered the Cedar Enzyme Bath in Japan while studying traditional landscape gardening and Zen. His first experience was a life-changing healing and spiritual event that convinced him it was his mission to bring this back to the US. Soon after returning from Japan he built a prototype 400-square-foot facility in a Sebastopol backyard out of recycled wood from a chicken coop.

Word caught on quickly when the bath was written up in the Sunday section of the San Francisco Chronicle in 1987. Since then the popularity of the Cedar Enzyme Bath and Osmosis has grown steadily.

Osmosis moved to its current five-acre site in Freestone in 1989, where Stusser and a dedicated staff have continued to enhance and expand the facilities and services. The most impressive addition is the Meditation Garden, named one of the top 20 Japanese gardens in North America.
